0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. We have been tracking it for well over a week

0:00:04 > 0:00:06but the weather system which has been spawned out of what was

0:00:06 > 0:00:09Hurricane Bertha has decided to spend its Sunday here with us

0:00:09 > 0:00:12in the UK rather than in France. This is how we begin the day,

0:00:12 > 0:00:15outbreaks of rain across the southern half of the country, some heavy.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17Strong winds initially along the south coast of England.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20That pushes into parts of East Anglia through the morning.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23In the afternoon, as skies try to brighten from the South, we will

0:00:23 > 0:00:27see winds re- strengthen Southwest and through western parts of Wales.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30The heavy rain pushes north so after a calm start to the

0:00:30 > 0:00:32day in Scotland, the winds will pick up later.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35The North and the West could stay dry throughout the day

0:00:35 > 0:00:37but bursts of heavy rain across central and eastern areas

0:00:37 > 0:00:39and the winds will pick up later.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42Some of the most persistent rain, once it sets in from late

0:00:42 > 0:00:44morning onwards, will be across northern England.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46Perhaps here the largest rainfall totals, up to around 50mm.

0:00:46 > 0:00:50There could be some minor flooding before the rain eases its way

0:00:50 > 0:00:52northwards to leave a brighter afternoon.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55The speed of the brighter weather pushing in is still open to question.

0:00:55 > 0:00:59Even when the sun comes out across the South and the drier weather

0:00:59 > 0:01:02dominates, the winds will still be strong, particularly

0:01:02 > 0:01:05South West of England and around the western coasts of Wales.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07So some rough seas possible across southern and western areas.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Northern Ireland perhaps avoiding the worst of it on Sunday

0:01:10 > 0:01:12but there is still the chance we could see heavy

0:01:12 > 0:01:15and persistent rain towards the east of the country.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18Through the night and into Monday morning, the strongest of the winds

0:01:18 > 0:01:20transfer towards eastern Scotland and the north-east of England.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23A very windy night across the board.

0:01:23 > 0:01:24Some clearer weather around,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26just one or two showers dotted around the coasts.

0:01:26 > 0:01:30More persistent rain once again to the far north of Scotland.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32The scene, as we start off Monday,

0:01:32 > 0:01:35deepening lows in the northern portion of the North Sea.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37You will notice on the southern flank of it, where the

0:01:37 > 0:01:38isobars are tightly packed,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40these are where the strongest winds will be.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43If you're doing the morning commute across parts of eastern Scotland

0:01:43 > 0:01:44and north-east England, it is

0:01:44 > 0:01:48here where we could see winds gusting to around 50mph , if not more.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51There could be a few issues on the bridges in particular.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Heavy rain to the North West of Scotland,

0:01:54 > 0:01:57but away from that, some rather lively showers with some thunder.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59Because the breeze will still be strong,

0:01:59 > 0:02:01it will push through quite quickly.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03Dry and brighter weather won't take long to follow on

0:02:03 > 0:02:05and some of you will avoid the showers altogether.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08With that low still only slowly pushing its way northwards,

0:02:08 > 0:02:11it sets up the scene for the week of a rather blustery affair.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14Still some gusty winds around on Tuesday, a mixture of sunshine

0:02:14 > 0:02:15and showers.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18Outbreaks of rain most persistent in the far north-west of Scotland

0:02:18 > 0:02:20but elsewhere some bright moments in between.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23Temperatures disappointing if you're still on your summer

0:02:23 > 0:02:26holidays, 15-21 Celsius, down on what we have seen so far this summer.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28That theme continues into Wednesday.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31We start to bring a little bit of a northerly edge to our winds.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33It does mean there will be favoured areas for getting

0:02:33 > 0:02:35the showers, parts of north Wales perhaps,

0:02:35 > 0:02:37running down into the South West.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Some southern coastal counties won't fare too badly,

0:02:40 > 0:02:41maybe not too many showers.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43Through Wednesday night into Thursday,

0:02:43 > 0:02:46down these eastern coasts will be best favoured for the showers.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48The winds slowly easing down a little bit.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50We could see some banding of showers

0:02:50 > 0:02:52so one or two spots could see some longer spells of rain

0:02:52 > 0:02:55but we are sticking with this story of some sunshine

0:02:55 > 0:02:58in between the showers and one or two of you avoiding them all together.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00The week is not a complete loss.

0:03:00 > 0:03:01There will be some drier weather around.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03For some of you, only a few showers.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06The set-up stays similar as we go through Friday into Monday,

0:03:06 > 0:03:07into the following week.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09Low pressure to the North,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11it does look like high pressure will dominate further south.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14Feeding any of the west or north-westerly winds.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17That does signal a mixture of sunshine and showers again.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20Northern areas most likely to see the longer spells of rain.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22Still remaining breezy and a cool feel compared to what

0:03:22 > 0:03:25we have been used to but it is still summer.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Get a bit of sunshine and it should still feel reasonably warm out there.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29Bye for now.

0:03:33 > 0:03:37Men of England, heirs of glory

0:03:37 > 0:03:40Heroes of unwritten story...

0:03:40 > 0:03:41Bert Middleton. Yes.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43Do you trust him? Yes.
