0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello there. Well, parts of the UK continue to feel the effects

0:00:05 > 0:00:08of the low pressure system that once was linked to Hurricane Bertha.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10As we go into Tuesday, the centre of that low

0:00:10 > 0:00:12pushing off into the Norwegian Sea.

0:00:12 > 0:00:13It's been piling the rain

0:00:13 > 0:00:14across Northern Scotland -

0:00:14 > 0:00:17widespread flooding here through Monday

0:00:17 > 0:00:18continuing into Tuesday

0:00:18 > 0:00:19with some further outbreaks of rain

0:00:19 > 0:00:21and still some gusty winds

0:00:21 > 0:00:22across the country as we start the day.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24At least a dry and bright start

0:00:24 > 0:00:26towards Central and Eastern England.

0:00:26 > 0:00:27Showers, already in the West,

0:00:27 > 0:00:29will get going, pushing their way East

0:00:29 > 0:00:30quite smartly on the breeze.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32More persistent rain in Northern Scotland

0:00:32 > 0:00:35inches a little bit further Southwards so a wet afternoon

0:00:35 > 0:00:37in Central and Southern parts of Scotland.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Watch how the showers

0:00:38 > 0:00:40really develop towards the South.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Some of those like we saw on Monday -

0:00:42 > 0:00:44heavy with hail and thunder mixed in.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46The focus for the heavy showers -

0:00:46 > 0:00:47Southwest England, Wales,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49through the Midlands towards Yorkshire.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51With winds lighter than on Monday,

0:00:51 > 0:00:52could be slower moving

0:00:52 > 0:00:53and will hang around for a time.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55But Southeast England, parts of East Anglia

0:00:55 > 0:00:57and some in Northern England,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59a few showers to come - some will stay largely dry.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Cloudy for Northern Ireland into the afternoon.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Persistent rain in parts of Central Southern Scotland

0:01:04 > 0:01:07but some breaks in the rain band further North,

0:01:07 > 0:01:08the odd bit of brightness.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10Still a little breezy to end the day,

0:01:10 > 0:01:11a cool day for August,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13and the breeze continues through the night

0:01:13 > 0:01:15and into Wednesday morning.

0:01:15 > 0:01:16The wind is going to ease down a bit

0:01:16 > 0:01:18but feeding in further showers

0:01:18 > 0:01:19as we start Wednesday morning

0:01:19 > 0:01:22across some Northern and Western areas in particular.

0:01:22 > 0:01:24To the South and the East, it should be a dry

0:01:24 > 0:01:27and bright start with some sunshine around.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29This is the set-up for Wednesday.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32A low is reluctant to completely leave us.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34It's trying to push its way into Norway,

0:01:34 > 0:01:35keeping the wind strongest

0:01:35 > 0:01:37across the Northeast of Scotland

0:01:37 > 0:01:40and here we could have some longer spells of rain to begin with

0:01:40 > 0:01:42but that will push off into the North Sea.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44It is a case of spot the difference into Wednesday

0:01:44 > 0:01:46but what you will find is the showers that we do have

0:01:46 > 0:01:49will be fewer in number, a little bit lighter as well.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51A brighter day for Scotland

0:01:51 > 0:01:52compared with how we start the week,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54and Eastern and Southern parts of the UK

0:01:54 > 0:01:56staying largely dry throughout the day.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Because the winds are starting to feel lighter,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00it should feel a little bit warmer too.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02But as we go into Thursday,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04as the low continues to push off into Scandinavia,

0:02:04 > 0:02:05the winds fall a bit lighter

0:02:05 > 0:02:07and we do have this feature here,

0:02:07 > 0:02:08which will pep up showers across

0:02:08 > 0:02:11parts of Wales and Southern England once again -

0:02:11 > 0:02:13some of those heavy with hail and thunder.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16Further North, the showers become lighter through the day

0:02:16 > 0:02:18but still on the cool side. The reason those showers

0:02:18 > 0:02:20are becoming light is because of

0:02:20 > 0:02:22a ridge of high pressure building in

0:02:22 > 0:02:23as we start to go into Friday.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Friday won't be completely without its showers

0:02:26 > 0:02:28but areas most prone to showers

0:02:28 > 0:02:30will be across Northern and Eastern parts.

0:02:30 > 0:02:31Even if they are fairly light,

0:02:31 > 0:02:34the odd heavier one towards East Anglia and the Southeast

0:02:34 > 0:02:35with some thunder can't be ruled out.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38It's in the West where we should stay largely dry,

0:02:38 > 0:02:39and light winds here to take us

0:02:39 > 0:02:40into the start of the weekend.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Could be mist and fog patches around

0:02:42 > 0:02:44as we start the weekend.

0:02:44 > 0:02:45Winds will be lighter,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47so with the sunshine on your back

0:02:47 > 0:02:48it should feel pleasantly warm -

0:02:48 > 0:02:50that sun is still strong at this time of year -

0:02:50 > 0:02:52but the odd shower can't be ruled out,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55particularly for Northern and Eastern areas.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57And as we finish Saturday and go into Sunday,

0:02:57 > 0:02:59with start seeing an area of low pressure push across

0:02:59 > 0:03:01the Northern half of the UK.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04And this is the general set-up, as we see at the moment between Sunday

0:03:04 > 0:03:07and into Wednesday the following week,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09allowing that Northwesterly air stream to be maintained,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11keeping on feeding in some showers,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13most prevalent towards Northern areas

0:03:13 > 0:03:17closer to the area of low pressure. The winds will remain quite blustery,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19That will maintain the cool feel as well,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21keeping things a little bit subdued temperature-wise

0:03:21 > 0:03:23but, of course, in the sunnier moments,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26and there will be some - particularly towards Southern areas -

0:03:26 > 0:03:29it should still feel reasonably warm at times. Bye for now.

0:03:31 > 0:03:32Say when.

0:03:32 > 0:03:33Please! Say when!

0:03:33 > 0:03:35They're back...

0:03:35 > 0:03:36GROANING

0:03:36 > 0:03:37That's right. I'm bad.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39MUSIC: "Bad" by Michael Jackson

0:03:39 > 0:03:40..and as bad as ever.

0:03:42 > 0:03:43Who's next?

0:03:43 > 0:03:44I'll have that hug.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46New Tricks returns...

0:03:47 > 0:03:49# ..just to tell you once again

0:03:49 > 0:03:50# Who's bad! #
