0:00:03 > 0:00:04The arrival of ex-Hurricane Bertha
0:00:04 > 0:00:06has not only had its impact in the UK,
0:00:06 > 0:00:08but it's shaken up the atmosphere across Europe,
0:00:08 > 0:00:09and from some summer heat
0:00:09 > 0:00:11that most have experienced so far this season,
0:00:11 > 0:00:13things are turning a little bit cooler,
0:00:13 > 0:00:15a little bit stormier, particularly in the West,
0:00:15 > 0:00:18and we could see some flash flooding with some nasty storms
0:00:18 > 0:00:21pushing through France, towards alpine regions on Wednesday morning.
0:00:21 > 0:00:25The cause of it all is still to the Northeast of Scotland,
0:00:25 > 0:00:28producing some gale force winds here to begin with, some heavy showers.
0:00:28 > 0:00:31Areas of cloud and showers moving now to Northern Ireland,
0:00:31 > 0:00:33Northern England, Southwards through the morning.
0:00:33 > 0:00:35After a dry start in the South, a showery afternoon.
0:00:35 > 0:00:39But just notice on the chart, fewer little chunks of blue,
0:00:39 > 0:00:41an indication that there are going to be fewer showers around
0:00:41 > 0:00:43and a bit more in the way of drier weather.
0:00:43 > 0:00:45Some of you will stay dry through Wednesday.
0:00:45 > 0:00:48Even if you see showers, the wet times are probably a little bit less.
0:00:48 > 0:00:49But into the afternoon
0:00:49 > 0:00:52and the sunny moments will see temperatures rise a bit,
0:00:52 > 0:00:54but they have done so far this week, thanks to lighter winds.
0:00:54 > 0:00:57Could get to around 23. Greater chance in Southern areas
0:00:57 > 0:00:59of showers during the afternoon than the morning, but further North,
0:00:59 > 0:01:02a bit more in the way of dry and bright weather around,
0:01:02 > 0:01:04and for parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland,
0:01:04 > 0:01:06a vastly improved day on Tuesday.
0:01:06 > 0:01:08Even though there'll be a few showers here and there,
0:01:08 > 0:01:11a lot of dry and bright weather and temperatures a few degrees up.
0:01:11 > 0:01:13As we go through Wednesday night, into Thursday,
0:01:13 > 0:01:15a lot of showers will fade for a time.
0:01:15 > 0:01:16Then just watch out in the West,
0:01:16 > 0:01:18showers start to appear in the chart once again
0:01:18 > 0:01:22and that's the sign of an even showerier day to arrive on Thursday.
0:01:22 > 0:01:25Maybe a little bit on the fresh side to start Thursday,
0:01:25 > 0:01:27particularly across some parts of Eastern Scotland
0:01:27 > 0:01:29and Eastern England as the winds fall light for a time,
0:01:29 > 0:01:32but the winds will pick up again during the day.
0:01:32 > 0:01:34If you look on the chart, a low pushes off into Scandinavia.
0:01:34 > 0:01:36Where you get this little sort of kink in the isobars,
0:01:36 > 0:01:38this is called troughing.
0:01:38 > 0:01:40Where you see that, you tend to enhance the showers again.
0:01:40 > 0:01:43And so it's across parts of Wales, the Midlands, Southern England,
0:01:43 > 0:01:46where showers will return heavy, thundery, with hail mixed in,
0:01:46 > 0:01:49pushing their way Southwards and Eastwards through the day.
0:01:49 > 0:01:51Further North, the showers that little bit lighter,
0:01:51 > 0:01:54bigger gaps between, so a bit more in the way of drier weather around.
0:01:54 > 0:01:57And in the sunshine, OK, it should feel pleasant enough,
0:01:57 > 0:01:59but temperatures, if anything, down on Wednesday's values.
0:01:59 > 0:02:02Now, things turn drier towards the West later on.
0:02:02 > 0:02:04That's because we've got this ridge of high pressure
0:02:04 > 0:02:06building in from the Southwest, and so for Friday,
0:02:06 > 0:02:09there could be some heavy showers still across Eastern England,
0:02:09 > 0:02:11particularly East Anglia and the Southeast,
0:02:11 > 0:02:14the odd rumble of thunder possible here, a noticeable breeze.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16But further West, only isolated showers.
0:02:16 > 0:02:18Many will have a dry and fine day.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20After a chilly start, it should feel nice enough in the sunshine
0:02:20 > 0:02:22with the winds fairly light.
0:02:22 > 0:02:24But a ridge of high pressure is sadly a short-lived beast.
0:02:24 > 0:02:26It pushes its way into France
0:02:26 > 0:02:28as we go through into the start of the weekend.
0:02:28 > 0:02:30Still have an influence across England and Wales
0:02:30 > 0:02:32to a certain degree. A distinctly chilly start.
0:02:32 > 0:02:34Overnight, down into single digits for many,
0:02:34 > 0:02:36but still some dry and bright weather for England and Wales,
0:02:36 > 0:02:40whereas for Scotland and Northern Ireland, strengthening breeze,
0:02:40 > 0:02:42outbreaks of rain developing through the day.
0:02:42 > 0:02:44Those outbreaks of rain will push Southwards
0:02:44 > 0:02:46and Eastwards as we go through the night and into Sunday.
0:02:46 > 0:02:49Could be some heavier bursts of rain Sunday morning
0:02:49 > 0:02:51working across Southern parts of England and Wales.
0:02:51 > 0:02:53They will gradually clear their way out into the North Sea,
0:02:53 > 0:02:56but that returns us to the Northwesterly airflow.
0:02:56 > 0:02:58Sunshine and showers. And note the temperatures.
0:02:58 > 0:03:01Only around the mid-teens across many parts of the North and the West.
0:03:01 > 0:03:04And so, once we have that low to the Northeast of us,
0:03:04 > 0:03:06it's a familiar pattern, much like we've seen this week for next week.
0:03:06 > 0:03:09We'll bring in those Northwesterly winds, best of any drier,
0:03:09 > 0:03:11bright weather, possibly towards the South,
0:03:11 > 0:03:14but even here, we could see some heavy and thundery showers.
0:03:14 > 0:03:17There will be some sunshine around, but it does look like, again,
0:03:17 > 0:03:20it's going to be a week of some fairly blustery winds
0:03:20 > 0:03:22maintaining the rather cool feel.
0:03:22 > 0:03:24You need to be out of that breeze in the sunshine to feel the warmth,
0:03:24 > 0:03:27but there are signs later in the month that some warmth
0:03:27 > 0:03:29may return to our shores.
0:03:30 > 0:03:31Say when.
0:03:31 > 0:03:33Please! Say when!
0:03:33 > 0:03:34They're back...
0:03:34 > 0:03:35GROANING
0:03:35 > 0:03:37That's right. I'm bad.
0:03:37 > 0:03:38MUSIC: "Bad" by Michael Jackson
0:03:38 > 0:03:40..and as bad as ever.
0:03:41 > 0:03:42Who's next?
0:03:42 > 0:03:44I'll have that hug.
0:03:44 > 0:03:46New Tricks returns...
0:03:47 > 0:03:48# ..just to tell you once again
0:03:48 > 0:03:49# Who's bad! #
