0:00:03 > 0:00:06At this time of day, we tend to dip our toe in the water
0:00:06 > 0:00:07a little further ahead,
0:00:07 > 0:00:09look at what's going to happen over the next ten days
0:00:09 > 0:00:12and the trends that could affect us across the British Isles.
0:00:12 > 0:00:15More on that in just a moment, but for the here and now,
0:00:15 > 0:00:17it looks as though we're going to see this little fella here
0:00:17 > 0:00:19enhancing some showers on Thursday
0:00:19 > 0:00:23across the bulk of Wales and Southern England.
0:00:23 > 0:00:25The day will start off relatively quiet,
0:00:25 > 0:00:28but already you can see those showers gathering across North Wales
0:00:28 > 0:00:29and into the Southwest.
0:00:29 > 0:00:31With lighter winds in recent days,
0:00:31 > 0:00:34that means if you catch a shower, they could be pretty slow-moving
0:00:34 > 0:00:37with rumbles of thunder and hail mixed in there as well.
0:00:37 > 0:00:40At the same time, though, as with the nature of showers,
0:00:40 > 0:00:41you may escape them altogether,
0:00:41 > 0:00:43and with the lighter winds, if you keep the sunshine,
0:00:43 > 0:00:45it'll feel reasonably pleasant.
0:00:45 > 0:00:48So, not a bad afternoon in prospect across the bulk of Cornwall.
0:00:48 > 0:00:52Sharp showers likely to continue across South Wales
0:00:52 > 0:00:55and for Southern England some of them heavy with rumbles of thunder.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58Top temperatures possibly 18 to 20 degrees.
0:00:58 > 0:01:01A few showers through the Midlands, to the North of England,
0:01:01 > 0:01:03and Northern Ireland and for the bulk of Scotland,
0:01:03 > 0:01:05not as many showers as we've seen in recent days.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07Could be one or two potent ones, perhaps,
0:01:07 > 0:01:10close to the Scottish Borders into the afternoon.
0:01:10 > 0:01:11But, again, lighter winds.
0:01:11 > 0:01:13Now, as we run through Thursday,
0:01:13 > 0:01:16some of those showers will start to ease from the West.
0:01:16 > 0:01:19We still keep a few dotted around those North Sea coasts for a time,
0:01:19 > 0:01:22but we do have a ridge of high pressure building,
0:01:22 > 0:01:25and that'll quieten things down quite nicely.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28Overnight lows of 11 to 13 degrees, so again,
0:01:28 > 0:01:30a more comfortable night for sleeping.
0:01:30 > 0:01:33That ridge of high pressure, then, starts to push in from the West.
0:01:33 > 0:01:36That's going to quieten things down considerably.
0:01:36 > 0:01:37Fewer showers around on Friday,
0:01:37 > 0:01:41perhaps Friday the best day of the week.
0:01:41 > 0:01:43So, dry, sunny, pleasant enough.
0:01:43 > 0:01:47There is still the potential, though, for a level of uncertainty,
0:01:47 > 0:01:50with a few showers across the Pennines
0:01:50 > 0:01:53stretching down into the Midlands and perhaps to the West of London.
0:01:53 > 0:01:55These should be fairly isolated, but if they occur,
0:01:55 > 0:01:58they could be heavy and possibly thundery.
0:01:58 > 0:02:02Top temperatures of 15 to 22 degrees, that's 72 Fahrenheit.
0:02:02 > 0:02:04As we move through to Saturday,
0:02:04 > 0:02:06an area of low pressure up into the North
0:02:06 > 0:02:08just increases the wind strength
0:02:08 > 0:02:11and the potential for some more wet weather to the North and West
0:02:11 > 0:02:14so, again, we're back to a pretty blustery westerly wind
0:02:14 > 0:02:17and plenty of sharp showers curling into the Northwest.
0:02:17 > 0:02:21Eventually, more cloud across Western areas, but a relatively dry day,
0:02:21 > 0:02:23with the best of the sunshine into Eastern areas.
0:02:23 > 0:02:25A different story by Sunday, though.
0:02:25 > 0:02:28We're being attacked both by the North and the South
0:02:28 > 0:02:31with an area of low pressure moving into Southern Britain
0:02:31 > 0:02:34and that will bring a pulse of particularly wet weather,
0:02:34 > 0:02:36particularly in the Southeast not looking very pleasant.
0:02:36 > 0:02:38It stays pretty windy,
0:02:38 > 0:02:41with showers or longer spells of rain throughout the day on Sunday.
0:02:41 > 0:02:43Temperatures 15 to 22 degrees.
0:02:43 > 0:02:47Now, that area of low pressure sent it off towards the North Sea.
0:02:47 > 0:02:49You can see the isobars squeezing around the low.
0:02:49 > 0:02:52The winds will always remain a feature on Monday,
0:02:52 > 0:02:54and still from a northerly direction,
0:02:54 > 0:02:57so despite the shower activity easing somewhat,
0:02:57 > 0:03:00it'll still feel quite cool on exposed northerly coasts,
0:03:00 > 0:03:03perhaps, again, highest values of 21 Celsius.
0:03:03 > 0:03:06What's in store from Tuesday into Friday?
0:03:06 > 0:03:09And, of course, Friday the 22nd, the start of the bank holiday,
0:03:09 > 0:03:12the final bank holiday across England and Wales.
0:03:12 > 0:03:15We keep the low pressure to the North, with northwesterly winds,
0:03:15 > 0:03:17but there are indications that this high pressure
0:03:17 > 0:03:19may just drift into the South,
0:03:19 > 0:03:22but there's still a great deal of uncertainty about that
0:03:22 > 0:03:23for the end of the week.
0:03:23 > 0:03:25So, showers, feeling cooler,
0:03:25 > 0:03:27hopefully less unsettled to the South
0:03:27 > 0:03:30as we move towards the bank holiday weekend.
0:03:32 > 0:03:34ALL: Happy New Year!
