0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. We are definitely in the middle of a chilly week.
0:00:05 > 0:00:09There are signs that early next week should be a little milder.
0:00:09 > 0:00:12Milder, but not necessarily dry.
0:00:12 > 0:00:15There will be some wet weather sweeping across the country.
0:00:15 > 0:00:17There is a bit of rain about tonight.
0:00:17 > 0:00:20An area of low pressure is drifting down from the North
0:00:20 > 0:00:22so it is bringing with it a chilly air.
0:00:22 > 0:00:26Because it is cloudy across northern Britain,
0:00:26 > 0:00:28it won't be as cold here first thing in the morning.
0:00:28 > 0:00:31Further south, sunny start but a really chilly
0:00:31 > 0:00:34start across East Anglia and southeastern parts of the Midlands.
0:00:34 > 0:00:35Through the day expect showers.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38Maybe parts of eastern England will stay dry
0:00:38 > 0:00:41but elsewhere there will be showers, a brisk breeze
0:00:41 > 0:00:43and it will still be chilly even when the sun is out.
0:00:43 > 0:00:47Temperatures only in the mid-to-high teens across the South East.
0:00:47 > 0:00:49Heavy showers later across North East Scotland,
0:00:49 > 0:00:52where temperatures might not reach 13 degrees.
0:00:52 > 0:00:56Through the evening and night, the showers will push further south.
0:00:56 > 0:01:00More cloud here during the course of Thursday night so it won't be
0:01:00 > 0:01:03as cold here, but again, further north will see clearing skies
0:01:03 > 0:01:07and again, certainly in rural areas, will be well down into single figures
0:01:07 > 0:01:09as we start Friday.
0:01:09 > 0:01:12For Friday, we're back to the set-up we have had for most of this
0:01:12 > 0:01:15week, high-pressure to the West, low pressure to the East, drawing down
0:01:15 > 0:01:19northerly winds and also bringing down a scattering of showers.
0:01:19 > 0:01:24Outbreaks of rain early on from that weather front across the South East
0:01:24 > 0:01:28and then we are left with a mix of sunshine and showers through Friday.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30Probably not too many for Wales and South West England.
0:01:30 > 0:01:33Northern Ireland, too, having a largely dry afternoon on Friday.
0:01:33 > 0:01:36But because we are drawing down the air from the North,
0:01:36 > 0:01:39temperatures continue to be below average, for many in the mid-teens.
0:01:39 > 0:01:43Into the weekend, this area of high pressure is trying to move in
0:01:43 > 0:01:45but it is a slow process.
0:01:45 > 0:01:48The low is still nearby so there will still be showers,
0:01:48 > 0:01:51particularly across eastern parts of the UK.
0:01:51 > 0:01:52I fancy for many,
0:01:52 > 0:01:55certainly across the West, it will be a dry and bright day on Saturday
0:01:55 > 0:01:58with sunny spells and, after a chilly start,
0:01:58 > 0:02:00those temperatures may be getting up to 19 or 20 degrees.
0:02:00 > 0:02:03Really cold start on Sunday
0:02:03 > 0:02:05but Sunday is the best bet for a dry day this weekend.
0:02:05 > 0:02:08Behind me you will notice a band of blue,
0:02:08 > 0:02:11that is a weather system starting to approach.
0:02:11 > 0:02:14We will see serious changes in the broader weather patterns
0:02:14 > 0:02:16through the weekend.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19For much of this week, the jet stream has been fairly weak
0:02:19 > 0:02:21and diving to the south of the UK, allowing the chilly air
0:02:21 > 0:02:24to bring a mixture of sunshine and showers.
0:02:24 > 0:02:28The change takes place, as we see the jet becomes more zonal, that is
0:02:28 > 0:02:32what we call it when it fires in from the west and starts to pick up.
0:02:32 > 0:02:34It may not be in exactly this position
0:02:34 > 0:02:37but it will be increasing, and when it is like this it tends
0:02:37 > 0:02:41to drag in areas of low pressure from the Atlantic.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44That is what we are going to see as we go into Monday.
0:02:44 > 0:02:47That rain we saw edging into western areas on Sunday is this
0:02:47 > 0:02:52low-pressure system which looks like smothering much of the UK on Monday.
0:02:52 > 0:02:55It may not rain all day, there will be brighter spells,
0:02:55 > 0:02:59and temperatures may be a little bit higher as we start to see
0:02:59 > 0:03:01the influence of those low pressures bringing slightly milder
0:03:01 > 0:03:05air from the Atlantic. That is the set-up for a good part of next week.
0:03:05 > 0:03:08It looks like low pressures will be close by or just to the
0:03:08 > 0:03:09north of the UK.
0:03:09 > 0:03:11High pressure to the South
0:03:11 > 0:03:14so we will have westerly breezes rather than the northerly
0:03:14 > 0:03:18breezes which is why it will be turning showery with fairly
0:03:18 > 0:03:22brisk winds, but it also, crucially, won't be as cold,
0:03:22 > 0:03:24particularly not at night.
0:03:24 > 0:03:26More details for where you are,
0:03:26 > 0:03:29particularly forecast focused over the long weekend online.
