0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. High pressure has dominated our weather so far this month,

0:00:06 > 0:00:11so much so that it's been the driest start to September for over 50 years

0:00:11 > 0:00:15with just 7% of the expected September rainfall.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17The wettest weather has been in Scotland.

0:00:17 > 0:00:21We had 11mm of rain on Monday in Edinburgh.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23It's been drier in England, 4mm here,

0:00:23 > 0:00:27even drier in Northern Ireland, just over 1mm of rain,

0:00:27 > 0:00:31and we've recorded 1mm of rain in Wales in two weeks,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33the last two weeks.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36The next couple of days could see some rain in the form of showers

0:00:36 > 0:00:39spinning north from this area of low pressure,

0:00:39 > 0:00:42but that rain is by no means guaranteed.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Most places will be dry on Thursday.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46Probably a dull, misty, grey start.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49We should see some sunshine breaking through in most places,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51the Northeast dull and damp.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54And across the South, it will be much warmer again

0:00:54 > 0:00:58with more sunshine coming through, a pleasant 22 or 23 degrees.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00Watch out for a few showers, though.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02There won't be many of them but they could be heavy.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05A lot of places, though, will stay fine and dry.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07We should see the weather improving

0:01:07 > 0:01:09across the Northwest of England after a misty start.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12Stubborn low cloud, though, for the Northeast of England

0:01:12 > 0:01:15and eventually some sunshine coming through for Northern Ireland,

0:01:15 > 0:01:19probably dry here. Across Scotland, though, a lot of cloud,

0:01:19 > 0:01:23especially in the East. That will keep it cool and damp all day.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26Friday, we're more likely to get some showers across Southern England,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29possibly extending northwards into Wales and the Midlands.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Again, very hit and miss but they could be heavy and thundery.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34There's a very cloudy look to the weather.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37We could even get a few showers in Western Scotland

0:01:37 > 0:01:39and Northern Ireland. A cooler picture here.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42Still some warmth further south despite the cloud

0:01:42 > 0:01:44and despite those showers as well.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48Still got some showers as we head into Saturday, perhaps,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51but we're starting to nudge down this high pressure from the Atlantic.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Ahead of it, very weak weather front will trail some cloud,

0:01:54 > 0:01:57a bit of rain and drizzle across Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:01:57 > 0:02:01into Northern England. Cleaner, fresher air following in behind that

0:02:01 > 0:02:02and some sunshine, perhaps.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04Again, a lot of cloud for England and Wales

0:02:04 > 0:02:07and still possibly a few heavy showers left over on Saturday,

0:02:07 > 0:02:10especially across South Wales and the Southwest of England.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Top temperatures - 21, 22 degrees,

0:02:12 > 0:02:15still pretty good for the time of year.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18High pressure continues to build right the way across the UK

0:02:18 > 0:02:20during the second half of the weekend.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24That will tend to squeeze away any of those showers into the near continent

0:02:24 > 0:02:26so for the second half of the weekend,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28should be dry just about everywhere,

0:02:28 > 0:02:32in fact, probably a lot of cloud left over and if there is a shower or two,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35it's more likely in the South but there won't be many of those.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38Those temperatures continuing to drop away a little,

0:02:38 > 0:02:4116 in Glasgow to 20 in London,

0:02:41 > 0:02:45and again a slightly cooler look to the weather, probably, on Monday,

0:02:45 > 0:02:48that high pressure bringing the cooler air in from the Atlantic,

0:02:48 > 0:02:51so 16 to 19 degrees, about average for the time of year.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55Some rain coming into the Northwest of Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57a weather front from off the Atlantic.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59That is tending to squeeze the high pressure away.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03There's another one trying to come in from off the Atlantic next week.

0:03:03 > 0:03:07That, though, will tend to steer bands of rain around the top of that

0:03:07 > 0:03:09and arriving across the northern half of the UK,

0:03:09 > 0:03:13so we're setting up more of a Northwest/Southeast split,

0:03:13 > 0:03:15if you like, as we head through next week,

0:03:15 > 0:03:19so Northwestern areas more likely to be changeable, more unsettled,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21some rain at times, and quite breezy too.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24Further Southeast, pressure is going to be somewhat higher,

0:03:24 > 0:03:27so here it will be drier and we'll have some spells of sunshine,

0:03:27 > 0:03:31but as we're seeing, high pressure never too far away.
