0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. We're anticipating some significant changes

0:00:06 > 0:00:08with the weather patterns as we go through weekend

0:00:08 > 0:00:10and the early part of next week.

0:00:10 > 0:00:11More on that in just a moment.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14First of all, there's one more day of September left,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17which has been a very dry month, and a pretty warm month, too.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20And there'll be more fine weather across the bulk of the UK

0:00:20 > 0:00:22during Tuesday. In the West, though,

0:00:22 > 0:00:25there is a weather front making for a damp day for Northern Ireland,

0:00:25 > 0:00:28and outbreaks of rain slowly trickling across Western Scotland.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30The Western Isles may brighten up late in the day,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32and we won't see too much rain - generally dry and bright

0:00:32 > 0:00:34across the far Northeast,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36but a damp evening rush hour for Glasgow.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38Dull and damp for most of the day in Northern Ireland,

0:00:38 > 0:00:39but, particularly in the West,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41it might brighten up a little in the afternoon,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43as that rain trickles across the Irish Sea

0:00:43 > 0:00:45towards Cumbria and Lancashire.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47For the bulk of England, though, it's a fine day.

0:00:47 > 0:00:48Could start a bit misty,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50small chance of a shower in the Southeast,

0:00:50 > 0:00:53but in the sunny spells it'll be warm again with highs of 21.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56That rain, though, does trickle into Devon, Cornwall and Wales

0:00:56 > 0:00:58through the late afternoon,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00and the outbreaks of rain become more extensive

0:01:00 > 0:01:02across England and Wales during the night.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05Another weather front will bring rain back to the Northwest

0:01:05 > 0:01:07through the night as well. It's not going to be a cold night -

0:01:07 > 0:01:11again, Tuesday night sees temperatures staying in the teens

0:01:11 > 0:01:12in most towns and cities.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13Into Wednesday, then,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16we've got a couple of weather fronts pushing slowly Southwards -

0:01:16 > 0:01:19one bringing patchy rain and drizzle across Southern areas,

0:01:19 > 0:01:21one clearing away from Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:01:21 > 0:01:23actually, here, for the bulk of the day,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25there'll be spells of sunshine.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28That rain slowly edging into Northern England and North Wales.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30Between those two weather systems, a bit of brightness,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32still quite mild in the South, 20 degrees.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35Despite some sunshine, a fresher feel further North.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37High pressure is still the dominant feature

0:01:37 > 0:01:38through Wednesday night,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41getting rid of those weather fronts, but areas of low pressure

0:01:41 > 0:01:43are starting to gather out in the Atlantic.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46That will eventually bring some rain into the far Northwest

0:01:46 > 0:01:49late on Thursday, but, for most, high pressure still with us on Thursday.

0:01:49 > 0:01:50Another dry day.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52Cold start across Northern Britain.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55By the afternoon, temperatures back in the mid teens, or perhaps,

0:01:55 > 0:01:57in the South, up to 20 Celsius.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00Now, the more significant changes start to happen on Friday

0:02:00 > 0:02:04and Saturday - an active weather front driving South is bringing

0:02:04 > 0:02:06some heavy rain, and the isobars are really pinching together,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09so the wind's starting to pick up, too.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11A wet and a windy day for parts of Scotland,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Northern Ireland, Northern England and Wales.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16That rain may linger in some places and could cause a few problems.

0:02:16 > 0:02:20Further South, still dry and still mild at this stage,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22but the weather front will drive across all areas

0:02:22 > 0:02:24as we go into the weekend, it looks like.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27So, a spell of heavy rain for all of us,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30and also, as that weather front moves through, it's a cold front,

0:02:30 > 0:02:33so much fresher conditions following on behind.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Blustery, with some sunshine.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39So, a change of type of our weather as we go through the weekend.

0:02:39 > 0:02:40Why the change?

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Well, it's all to do with the jet stream -

0:02:42 > 0:02:45that fast-moving ribbon of air high up in the atmosphere.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46For most of September,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49the jet stream has been to the North of the UK,

0:02:49 > 0:02:52and it's the jet stream that drives areas of low pressure.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55So, mostly, through September, the low pressure systems,

0:02:55 > 0:02:59which bring the wind and the rain, have been to the North of the UK.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02But next week the jet stream is driving South across the UK,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05which means the low pressure systems will follow,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08and they'll be spreading wind and spells of rain across the UK.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11So, scenes like this will become more familiar.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14Yes, you will need your umbrellas again -

0:03:14 > 0:03:16the leaves will start to come off the trees more rapidly,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19because we will see those changes.

0:03:19 > 0:03:20It'll feel fresher, as well -

0:03:20 > 0:03:22temperatures will still be around average,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24but because we've been above average for so long,

0:03:24 > 0:03:27it will feel cooler, and there'll be spells of wind and rain.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29And we'll continue to bring you the details

0:03:29 > 0:03:30here and online.

0:03:33 > 0:03:34'Two minutes left, bakers!'

0:03:34 > 0:03:36I think I've overdone it with the pistachios

0:03:36 > 0:03:39and somehow, the custard's split, but it's too late!

0:03:39 > 0:03:41Paul told me not to under-bake it.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43He's going to have a field day!

0:03:43 > 0:03:46Ian's representation of the evils
