0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello, we've been hearing throughout the day just how dry
0:00:04 > 0:00:06September has been.
0:00:06 > 0:00:08If you haven't seen the statistics, they are available
0:00:08 > 0:00:10on the BBC Weather website.
0:00:10 > 0:00:13A change in month will bring a change in the weather,
0:00:13 > 0:00:14but not immediately.
0:00:14 > 0:00:17The first day of October, Wednesday, promises more dry
0:00:17 > 0:00:19and bright weather for most of us.
0:00:19 > 0:00:20Quite a lot of cloud across England and Wales,
0:00:20 > 0:00:23we could start off with a bit of mist and fog,
0:00:23 > 0:00:26and there will be some showery bands drifting their way Southwards.
0:00:26 > 0:00:29Probably a great start across Scotland and Northern Ireland
0:00:29 > 0:00:31but for most here, actually, it will be a fine afternoon
0:00:31 > 0:00:34with plenty of sunshine, just one or two showers in the far Northwest.
0:00:34 > 0:00:37Sunny skies developing across Northern Ireland.
0:00:37 > 0:00:39A grey day for much of Northern England.
0:00:39 > 0:00:41A little bit of light rain coming into the West
0:00:41 > 0:00:43and we will see a few light showers for Wales too.
0:00:43 > 0:00:46Some brightness across central and Eastern areas,
0:00:46 > 0:00:49still a few showers across the far Southeast in the afternoon.
0:00:49 > 0:00:51A bit of brightness could again see temperatures up to 20 Celsius.
0:00:51 > 0:00:55Quite a lot more cloud compared to Tuesday across Southwest England.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58And we'll keep a lot of cloud on Wednesday night in the South.
0:00:58 > 0:00:59That will keep the temperatures up.
0:00:59 > 0:01:03Further North, clear skies means it will turn quite cold.
0:01:03 > 0:01:05Temperatures in towns and cities down to single figures.
0:01:05 > 0:01:08Rural areas will be as low as two or three,
0:01:08 > 0:01:10if not a touch lower in some spots.
0:01:10 > 0:01:13In the South, as I said, the cloud will keep the temperatures up.
0:01:13 > 0:01:15It could be quite a misty, murky start on Thursday.
0:01:15 > 0:01:17Again, for most places, Thursday is a dry day.
0:01:17 > 0:01:20Just the chance of a few showers across the South.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23Further North, generally dry and bright with some sunshine.
0:01:23 > 0:01:26Temperatures ranging from the mid-teens to again, possibly,
0:01:26 > 0:01:28in the South, getting up to 20 Celsius.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30We are starting to see a change,
0:01:30 > 0:01:33though - in the far Northwest the clouds are gathering.
0:01:33 > 0:01:36This is an active weather front and it will be changing
0:01:36 > 0:01:39the weather patterns as we go through the end of the week.
0:01:39 > 0:01:41The isobars squeezing together, that is the first clue
0:01:41 > 0:01:44that it's going to get blustery. And that weather front is quite active.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47It's going to provide some heavy rain as it crosses Scotland,
0:01:47 > 0:01:51Northern Ireland, late in the day on Friday to parts of Northern England.
0:01:51 > 0:01:54Most of England and Wales having another dry day and despite
0:01:54 > 0:01:57the breeze picking up, it will be quite warm at 20 or 21 Celsius.
0:01:57 > 0:01:58But that weather front doesn't stop,
0:01:58 > 0:02:01it continues to drive its way across all areas.
0:02:01 > 0:02:05Some bright colours there suggesting some heavy rain and it's a cold
0:02:05 > 0:02:09front, suggesting the area behind it is going to be quite a lot colder.
0:02:09 > 0:02:11And see how the map changes colour.
0:02:11 > 0:02:14We drain those blues across all areas for the weekend.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17So turning much chillier. The rain still across East Anglia
0:02:17 > 0:02:19and the Southeast for Saturday morning, slow to clear.
0:02:19 > 0:02:22A few showers follow but, actually, quite a bit of sunshine will
0:02:22 > 0:02:24follow on Saturday too, but look at the temperatures.
0:02:24 > 0:02:29We're back in the mid-teens for most of us. It will feel a lot colder.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31The breeze still in evidence on Sunday.
0:02:31 > 0:02:32A lot of isobars on the chart.
0:02:32 > 0:02:35Low pressure dominating the scene, the weather front piling
0:02:35 > 0:02:38Southwards will provide pretty frequent showers across most areas.
0:02:38 > 0:02:42That brisk breeze, again, making it feel quite chilly,
0:02:42 > 0:02:44despite those temperatures being about around average.
0:02:44 > 0:02:47Because it's been so warm and because of the breezes,
0:02:47 > 0:02:49it will feel quite a lot colder.
0:02:49 > 0:02:52Colder than what was a very mild September. Why was it so dry?
0:02:52 > 0:02:55Well, the jet stream was to the north of the UK.
0:02:55 > 0:02:56It's the jet stream,
0:02:56 > 0:02:59that fast moving ribbon of air, high up in the atmosphere, that drives
0:02:59 > 0:03:01the low pressure systems North,
0:03:01 > 0:03:03allowing most of us to enjoy scenes like this.
0:03:03 > 0:03:06Misty mornings and plenty of sunshine.
0:03:06 > 0:03:09The change next week will be that the jet stream is much further South,
0:03:09 > 0:03:13driving the low pressure systems across the UK which means,
0:03:13 > 0:03:17yes, most of us will see spells of rain and some strong winds too.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20As I mentioned, temperatures will be back close to the average
0:03:20 > 0:03:22but it will feel a lot colder because of the wind.
0:03:22 > 0:03:24There will be some sunny spells
0:03:24 > 0:03:28but finally, most of us will get some rain as well.
0:03:28 > 0:03:29Goodbye.
0:03:32 > 0:03:36# Cos everybody hurts
0:03:41 > 0:03:44# Take comfort in your friends
0:03:48 > 0:03:52# Cos everybody hurts
0:03:54 > 0:03:57# Sometimes. #
