0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. First, congratulations

0:00:05 > 0:00:08and thank you to all of you who joined Weather Watchers,

0:00:08 > 0:00:12the new BBC interactive website. And that helps us to illustrate

0:00:12 > 0:00:14the story a little better.

0:00:14 > 0:00:18Now, just to prove the point, this was yesterday in North Yorkshire,

0:00:18 > 0:00:20where the fog lingered all day.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22But a few hundred miles south, it was a different story.

0:00:22 > 0:00:26In London, you could hardly see out of the window in the morning,

0:00:26 > 0:00:29the rain was so heavy, and pretty miserable with it.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31Unfortunately, that wet theme

0:00:31 > 0:00:35is likely to be the story for the next six to ten-day period.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38We will start off with some wet weather out to the west on Thursday,

0:00:38 > 0:00:42the winds a significant feature as well, gales on exposed coasts,

0:00:42 > 0:00:46and the rain continues to push its way steadily north and east.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49Perhaps the far north-east of Scotland staying dry and bright,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51and, albeit cloudy, largely dry in the south-east corner.

0:00:51 > 0:00:55And mild again - 12 to 16 degrees the high.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58It's November 5th as well, so for the firework displays

0:00:58 > 0:01:01in the evening, it'll be a wet affair as the rain moves east,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03and then clearing behind,

0:01:03 > 0:01:05the next batch of wet and windy weather pushes in.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Gales up into the far north are likely,

0:01:07 > 0:01:10the heaviest of the rain here as well.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13As the rain clears through, at least it's mild again,

0:01:13 > 0:01:17but rather cloudy. 13 to 17 degrees the overall high.

0:01:17 > 0:01:21We barely get a chance to catch our breath into the weekend

0:01:21 > 0:01:25before the next area of low pressure starts to push in from the Atlantic,

0:01:25 > 0:01:28and you can see by the brighter, vivid colours

0:01:28 > 0:01:30there really will be some heavy rain for a time,

0:01:30 > 0:01:33and again, the winds are going to be a significant feature.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35So for outdoor plans on Saturday,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37could be a fairly soggy one, I'm afraid,

0:01:37 > 0:01:40particularly in the north, where rain will linger all day,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43turning to showers behind it into the south.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47Moving out of Saturday night, I think there'll be too much of a breeze

0:01:47 > 0:01:49for fog to be an issue,

0:01:49 > 0:01:53and the cloud already gathering, and we do it all again on Sunday.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Can you believe this? So starting off dry and bright in the east,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59the heaviest of the rain and the strongest of the winds

0:01:59 > 0:02:01look likely to be into the far north.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03But again, those temperatures are pretty promising.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07They should be around 10 or 11 degrees at this time of year.

0:02:07 > 0:02:11What a surprise - by Monday we've still got tightly packed isobars,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13still the winds very much a feature,

0:02:13 > 0:02:16and still plenty of rain to come in the forecast.

0:02:16 > 0:02:17I can hear you saying,

0:02:17 > 0:02:20"What on earth is happening to the weather at the moment?"

0:02:20 > 0:02:24Yet again, the heaviest of the rain is likely to be up in the north-west,

0:02:24 > 0:02:28somewhat drier and milder down into the south-east corner.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30So why, I hear you cry?

0:02:30 > 0:02:34Well, what a surprise - it's all due to the jet stream,

0:02:34 > 0:02:38which is changing position, and it's strengthening.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40There's a kink developing in the jet stream,

0:02:40 > 0:02:43and that's directing its attention right across the UK.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46We're in Strictly mode at the moment, so we can use the analogy

0:02:46 > 0:02:50that actually, this kink, the jet stream's found its hip action,

0:02:50 > 0:02:54and actually it's a hot Latin that's pushing these low pressures

0:02:54 > 0:02:56right across the UK.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58I'm desperately trying to find some humour

0:02:58 > 0:02:59in this pretty miserable story.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02The wind's coming from a south-westerly direction,

0:03:02 > 0:03:04always dragging in that milder air,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06but it will be wet and windy at times.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09It certainly does look as though, as we move into

0:03:09 > 0:03:12that six to ten-day period, so into next week,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15the heaviest of the rain, the strongest of the winds

0:03:15 > 0:03:18looks likely to be across the northern half of the UK.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20Plenty of leaves coming down off the trees.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22But further south, there will still be some rain around,

0:03:22 > 0:03:26but not as intense, and again, the winds perhaps not quite as strong.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28But still fairly cloudy,

0:03:28 > 0:03:30and still fairly miserable. Take care.
