0:00:03 > 0:00:04The weather across the UK
0:00:04 > 0:00:06certainly has the look of autumn about it at the moment.
0:00:06 > 0:00:09We saw strong winds on Monday whip up some high seas,
0:00:09 > 0:00:11as captured by one of our weather watchers in the Wirral.
0:00:11 > 0:00:13Not only that, relentless rain
0:00:13 > 0:00:15for parts of north-west England and North Wales.
0:00:15 > 0:00:17That's had the impact of some minor flooding.
0:00:17 > 0:00:21Here's the scene captured in Hawes in North Yorkshire
0:00:21 > 0:00:22as the River Ure burst its banks.
0:00:22 > 0:00:25We've had the look of autumn. We've not had the feel of autumn.
0:00:25 > 0:00:27Temperatures high for the time of year.
0:00:27 > 0:00:30Temperature trend this week continues it for a time, but by Friday,
0:00:30 > 0:00:33things start to feel like they should do for the time of year,
0:00:33 > 0:00:34as I will show you.
0:00:34 > 0:00:36Let's deal with the here and now first.
0:00:36 > 0:00:39Still very mild out there. Incredibly mild night into Tuesday.
0:00:39 > 0:00:41A very mild day in those blustery south-west winds.
0:00:41 > 0:00:43Not quite as strong as they were on Monday.
0:00:43 > 0:00:45Outbreaks of rain around,
0:00:45 > 0:00:47particularly western Scotland, Northern Ireland,
0:00:47 > 0:00:49some heavy bursts to start the day in Wales and south-west,
0:00:49 > 0:00:52which will push through the south Midlands towards East Anglia later.
0:00:52 > 0:00:56Some dry moments, too, and some cloud breaks east of high ground.
0:00:56 > 0:00:58Could hit 17, 18, 19 degrees during the afternoon.
0:00:58 > 0:01:0011s or 12s further north across Scotland.
0:01:00 > 0:01:02Some sunshine and showers here.
0:01:02 > 0:01:04Through Tuesday night and into Wednesday,
0:01:04 > 0:01:06a fresher feel across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
0:01:06 > 0:01:08Some clear spells, a few showers.
0:01:08 > 0:01:10Cloudy, damp and drizzly further south.
0:01:10 > 0:01:13Heavier rain later to north-west England and north-west Wales, too.
0:01:13 > 0:01:15Temperatures by night still at levels
0:01:15 > 0:01:18we wouldn't normally expect to see them by day at this time of year.
0:01:18 > 0:01:21We continue with the south-west winds feeding in on Wednesday.
0:01:21 > 0:01:24Mildest to the south of that weather front, coolest to the north of it.
0:01:24 > 0:01:26On the weather front itself,
0:01:26 > 0:01:28we see the rainfall amounts pep up once more
0:01:28 > 0:01:29in the areas we don't want them.
0:01:29 > 0:01:31Parts of south-west Scotland, north-west England
0:01:31 > 0:01:32and north-west Wales.
0:01:32 > 0:01:34Just totting up the river levels
0:01:34 > 0:01:36and potentially causing some minor flooding.
0:01:36 > 0:01:39Scotland, Northern Ireland, sunshine and blustery showers.
0:01:39 > 0:01:4011 or 12, the high.
0:01:40 > 0:01:42Higher than they should be for the time of year.
0:01:42 > 0:01:44Further south, cloudy, some drizzle around,
0:01:44 > 0:01:46and temperatures in the mid-teens.
0:01:46 > 0:01:48It does turn cooler to take us through into Thursday.
0:01:48 > 0:01:51As that weather front pushes through, a ridge of high pressure builds in,
0:01:51 > 0:01:53settling things down temporarily.
0:01:53 > 0:01:55It does mean Thursday, you can wake up to a bit of sunshine,
0:01:55 > 0:01:58the best of which will be across eastern parts of the country.
0:01:58 > 0:02:00But more cloud pushes in as the southerly winds dominate
0:02:00 > 0:02:02into the latter stages of the day.
0:02:02 > 0:02:05Some heavy rain and gales, if not severe gale-force winds,
0:02:05 > 0:02:06to take us through into Friday.
0:02:06 > 0:02:10This low-pressure system pushing one weather front across the country,
0:02:10 > 0:02:11putting us into very unstable air,
0:02:11 > 0:02:15and also bringing round it much, much colder air.
0:02:15 > 0:02:18Now, I was talking about colder relative to now.
0:02:18 > 0:02:21Much like conditions we should have for the time of year on Friday.
0:02:21 > 0:02:22There'll be sunshine, showers.
0:02:22 > 0:02:24The showers will be heavy with hail, thunder.
0:02:24 > 0:02:26Across the tops of the hills,
0:02:26 > 0:02:28and we're only talking the tops of the hills
0:02:28 > 0:02:30in parts of Wales, northern England and Scotland,
0:02:30 > 0:02:32there could be a bit of sleet and snow.
0:02:32 > 0:02:35Out of the sunshine, in the showers, it will feel much cooler.
0:02:35 > 0:02:388 to 12 degrees, not far off what they should be for the time of year.
0:02:38 > 0:02:40But the wind will make it feel colder than that.
0:02:40 > 0:02:42You'll notice the shock to the system.
0:02:42 > 0:02:43Only feeling like 2 or 3 degrees
0:02:43 > 0:02:45across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
0:02:45 > 0:02:48The chilly feel will continue through into Saturday morning.
0:02:48 > 0:02:51Blustery winds throughout, ridge of high pressure,
0:02:51 > 0:02:54but just notice another low-pressure system moving into the wings.
0:02:54 > 0:02:57That will bring the south-westerlys back by the end of the day.
0:02:57 > 0:02:58Further rain, gales,
0:02:58 > 0:03:02if not severe gales to the north-west of the UK before the day is out.
0:03:02 > 0:03:04Driest to the south and east.
0:03:04 > 0:03:06The reason we've got successive low-pressure system
0:03:06 > 0:03:08after low-pressure system, at the moment,
0:03:08 > 0:03:10we've got a strong and a fairly flat jet stream
0:03:10 > 0:03:13separating the mild air to the south, the cold air to the north,
0:03:13 > 0:03:15meaning that the rain band's been fairly relentless.
0:03:15 > 0:03:18Into next week, we continue with the westerly feel.
0:03:18 > 0:03:20That jet stream's there, but it's undulating a bit more.
0:03:20 > 0:03:22That will slow the progression a bit more.
0:03:22 > 0:03:24So there'll be some longer drier spells.
0:03:24 > 0:03:26But equally, we'll see some colder moments.
0:03:26 > 0:03:28So, next week, maybe not as mild,
0:03:28 > 0:03:30but still wet and windy at times.
0:03:31 > 0:03:32A quiet town...
0:03:32 > 0:03:33You're not in London now.
0:03:33 > 0:03:35..doesn't guarantee a quiet life.
0:03:35 > 0:03:38Stay out of my business! Murderer!
0:03:38 > 0:03:40Did you talk to the police? I can't. I want to talk to you.
