0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello, thanks for tuning in.

0:00:04 > 0:00:06There's a lot happening on the weather front

0:00:06 > 0:00:08over the next few days, but I must concentrate on the here and now,

0:00:08 > 0:00:11because there is some very rough weather heading our way.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13In fact, Storm Barney, named by the Met Office,

0:00:13 > 0:00:15is brewing in the Atlantic. It's heading our way

0:00:15 > 0:00:17and the wind gusts could topple some trees

0:00:17 > 0:00:19during the course of Tuesday.

0:00:19 > 0:00:20Let's see what's happening, then.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23This is the satellite picture and Barney's here,

0:00:23 > 0:00:24still thousands of miles away,

0:00:24 > 0:00:26but it is heading in our direction

0:00:26 > 0:00:28and it will affect the southern half of the UK,

0:00:28 > 0:00:30particularly coastal areas, but also inland,

0:00:30 > 0:00:33there'll be some very vicious gusts of wind as well,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36but for the time being, we've got gale-force winds

0:00:36 > 0:00:38across northern parts of Scotland,

0:00:38 > 0:00:4160mph to possibly 70mph gusts for the next few hours.

0:00:41 > 0:00:42This is just a snapshot.

0:00:42 > 0:00:43Further south across the UK,

0:00:43 > 0:00:48it's much calmer, but we have got

0:00:48 > 0:00:49It's not going to last very long,

0:00:49 > 0:00:52because by the time we get to early on Tuesday morning,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54the early hours, it is actually going to dry out

0:00:54 > 0:00:56and the winds will be light,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58so it's the calm before the storm, before Barney.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00Mild still, 12 degrees in the south,

0:01:00 > 0:01:03but already colder in Scotland.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Tuesday morning's rush hour not actually looking too bad at all.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08In fact, the winds will be light

0:01:08 > 0:01:10across most parts of the country,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13relatively mild still in the south,

0:01:13 > 0:01:19but the rains just about starting to nudge into Wales.

0:01:19 > 0:01:20not a bad start to the day,

0:01:20 > 0:01:21that is for Glasgow and Edinburgh,

0:01:21 > 0:01:24because across the Northern Isles here, still very windy,

0:01:24 > 0:01:27still gale-force winds and some gusty showers.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Here's that area of low pressure. This is Barney.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32It'll develop rapidly during the course of Tuesday

0:01:32 > 0:01:36and it'll bring a swathe of perhaps a few hours of severe gale-force winds

0:01:36 > 0:01:38across the southern half of the UK.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40So here's the morning onwards.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43First the rain arrives with strengthening winds,

0:01:43 > 0:01:44but the strongest of the winds,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46with those really pounding gusts,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48will be towards the south of Barney,

0:01:48 > 0:01:49so the centre of the lows here,

0:01:49 > 0:01:51but the gales will be to the south.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Quite a mild day in London.

0:01:53 > 0:01:5517 degrees, Cardiff too,

0:01:55 > 0:01:57but that will be offset by the strengthening wind.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59Colder already there in Scotland.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02But let's take a look at those really strong gusts of wind,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04because it's been a while since we've had

0:02:04 > 0:02:05gales across the south of the UK.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Up to 80mph gusts.

0:02:07 > 0:02:11That's really strong around the coasts and exposed areas of the south

0:02:11 > 0:02:13and the south-west, but even inland,

0:02:13 > 0:02:15we could see gusts of 60-70mph.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17That, as I said, could topple some trees,

0:02:17 > 0:02:20there could be some power cuts here and there

0:02:20 > 0:02:22and some disruption to transport,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24some delays, so factor that in

0:02:24 > 0:02:27if you're travelling during the course of Tuesday evening.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29Wednesday a much quieter day, but still very windy.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32Again, across Northern Ireland and Scotland,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34gale-force winds with some rain.

0:02:34 > 0:02:35By the time we get to Thursday,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38a change starts to happen across the northern part of the UK.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41You can see the winds are starting to come in from the north

0:02:41 > 0:02:43and that means colder air oozing down.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Those temperatures will start to drop.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47Still relatively mild in the south

0:02:47 > 0:02:49and it could be relatively mild still on Friday,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51but you can see, even across northern England,

0:02:51 > 0:02:55back down to single figures by the time we get to Friday,

0:02:55 > 0:02:56so there are changes on the way.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58Let's see what's happening

0:02:58 > 0:03:00during the course of the weekend.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02The mild air that's been sitting over us

0:03:02 > 0:03:04for a very long time now eventually gets pushed away

0:03:04 > 0:03:06and we get that colder air

0:03:06 > 0:03:07coming in from the north,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09so temperatures will start

0:03:09 > 0:03:11to recover at least to average

0:03:11 > 0:03:13and then to below average as we head

0:03:13 > 0:03:15into the weekend and the next week.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17Let's summarise all of that -

0:03:17 > 0:03:20the weekend and into next week, it's turning colder, less windy

0:03:20 > 0:03:23and there could be some wintry showers,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25particularly across Scottish hills,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27down into the Pennines as well.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29That's it. Thanks for watching.

0:03:31 > 0:03:32The way in which we create

0:03:32 > 0:03:35and consume food is changing faster than ever.

0:03:35 > 0:03:39A seemingly sci-fi future is actually a reality.
