0:00:03 > 0:00:05Thanks for tuning in to Weather For The Week Ahead.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07A lot happening over the next few days -

0:00:07 > 0:00:10quite a stormy end to Tuesday for some of us,

0:00:10 > 0:00:11but also a very mild one,

0:00:11 > 0:00:14and that's really been the story of November so far.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16Temperatures quite widely across the country

0:00:16 > 0:00:18have been in the mid-teens, but this weekend,

0:00:18 > 0:00:20a big change on the way - quite a bit colder,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22perhaps only 5 degrees for some of us.

0:00:22 > 0:00:23Let's have a look at Storm Barney.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25This is a picture sent in from

0:00:25 > 0:00:27the south of Wales, from Neath,

0:00:27 > 0:00:28as Storm Barney approached,

0:00:28 > 0:00:30whipping up the seas here.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32Gusts in some areas in excess of 80mph.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34Not a very well-formed storm,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36but the winds were very, very strong,

0:00:36 > 0:00:38particularly across the southern flank

0:00:38 > 0:00:41of the area of low pressure as it approached Wales

0:00:41 > 0:00:44during the course of Tuesday evening.

0:00:44 > 0:00:45But early on Wednesday,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47it's much calmer across the country,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49but the weather will go downhill quickly

0:00:49 > 0:00:50across the northwest of the UK,

0:00:50 > 0:00:52got another area of low pressure

0:00:52 > 0:00:54bringing some rain and very strong winds.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56I think wherever you are on Wednesday, eventually,

0:00:56 > 0:00:59it's going to become very windy once again,

0:00:59 > 0:01:00with a mixture of sunshine

0:01:00 > 0:01:01and passing gusty showers,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03and relatively mild again, still -

0:01:03 > 0:01:0615 in London but already colder in Scotland.

0:01:06 > 0:01:07This is a separate area of low pressure -

0:01:07 > 0:01:09this is not Barney, this is low pressure

0:01:09 > 0:01:11that'll bring that windy,

0:01:11 > 0:01:14blustery weather with showers across

0:01:14 > 0:01:16the northern half of the UK in particular.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18As we head into Thursday, once that area

0:01:18 > 0:01:19of low pressure is out of the way,

0:01:19 > 0:01:21look at the change of the wind direction

0:01:21 > 0:01:23across Scotland - it starts to come in

0:01:23 > 0:01:25from the north and that heralds a change

0:01:25 > 0:01:27in our weather to that colder weather

0:01:27 > 0:01:29I just mentioned at the start of the weather report.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31I think, on Thursday, colder across

0:01:31 > 0:01:33the northern half of the UK,

0:01:33 > 0:01:34but just temporarily -

0:01:34 > 0:01:37we are going to see once more some milder,

0:01:37 > 0:01:38wetter and windier weather

0:01:38 > 0:01:40across the south of the UK.

0:01:40 > 0:01:41It really will be just grazing

0:01:41 > 0:01:43the far south of the country.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45You can see the wind and rain

0:01:45 > 0:01:47splashing in from the southwest of England,

0:01:47 > 0:01:48across central southern England,

0:01:48 > 0:01:50into the southeast, but by the time we get

0:01:50 > 0:01:52to the Midlands, northwards, you can see

0:01:52 > 0:01:54how much lower the temperatures are,

0:01:54 > 0:01:55around 6-8 degrees Celsius.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57Then Friday night into Saturday,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00that colder air starts oozing from the north

0:02:00 > 0:02:04and temperatures will start to really take a tumble.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06So, on Saturday, it's a very chilly day,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08also a very windy day.

0:02:08 > 0:02:09You can see a lot of isobars here.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11That means strong winds coming all the way

0:02:11 > 0:02:13from the north and, actually,

0:02:13 > 0:02:15I wouldn't be surprised if there's wintry weather

0:02:15 > 0:02:17across the hills of Scotland

0:02:17 > 0:02:18and also northern England -

0:02:18 > 0:02:20you can see a hint of wintriness there

0:02:20 > 0:02:22across the Pennines.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24It's also the fact that it's going to be

0:02:24 > 0:02:26quite windy that we'll feel so cold.

0:02:26 > 0:02:27You can see 4 degrees there

0:02:27 > 0:02:29for Leeds and Sheffield.

0:02:29 > 0:02:30Only 7 degrees in London,

0:02:30 > 0:02:31a couple of degrees below the average

0:02:31 > 0:02:34for the time of year, and that cold, windy theme

0:02:34 > 0:02:37continues from Saturday into Sunday as well -

0:02:37 > 0:02:39again, a chance of one or two wintry showers.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41The morning will be quite frosty,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43but I think a lot of us on Sunday actually should have

0:02:43 > 0:02:46quite a sunny, crisp, late autumn day,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48but chilly - temperatures in many areas

0:02:48 > 0:02:52will be only around about, say, 5-8 degrees Celsius.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55So, that's Sunday. How about next week?

0:02:55 > 0:02:57Well, high pressure across the Atlantic

0:02:57 > 0:02:59is actually going to shunt

0:02:59 > 0:03:00some milder air in our direction

0:03:00 > 0:03:02once more, because the air goes round

0:03:02 > 0:03:03high pressure like so,

0:03:03 > 0:03:06so the milder air that sits in the Atlantic

0:03:06 > 0:03:08gets sent in our direction

0:03:08 > 0:03:09and it pushes that colder air

0:03:09 > 0:03:13away from the UK back into the continent,

0:03:13 > 0:03:15before another shot of colder air,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18in the wings, is ready to come our way

0:03:18 > 0:03:20quite possibly later in the week,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22so really a lot of chopping and changing

0:03:22 > 0:03:23from milder to colder,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25back to milder and colder weather again,

0:03:25 > 0:03:29as we head over the next five to ten days.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30That's it - bye-bye.

0:03:32 > 0:03:33We're looking for a trap street.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36They're somehow making our eyes skate right over it.

0:03:36 > 0:03:37It's called a misdirection circuit.
