0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. This cold spell of weather is not set to last too much longer
0:00:06 > 0:00:10so if you like your days crisp and bright then enjoy Sunday.
0:00:10 > 0:00:11Many people enjoyed Saturday.
0:00:11 > 0:00:14There was a covering of snow in quite a few places that got
0:00:14 > 0:00:17the weather-watchers all excited. Thanks for sending the photos in.
0:00:17 > 0:00:19This one, just an example of the snow covering
0:00:19 > 0:00:21the hills across northern England.
0:00:21 > 0:00:23There could be a little bit more
0:00:23 > 0:00:24in the way of snow,
0:00:24 > 0:00:26particularly across the North York Moors during Sunday,
0:00:26 > 0:00:28but snow not a big issue any more.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30Ice, potentially, on Sunday morning
0:00:30 > 0:00:32but overall, Sunday's just a sunny day.
0:00:32 > 0:00:35Still cold, still showers in the east
0:00:35 > 0:00:36but the winds not as strong
0:00:36 > 0:00:38so although it'll still feel
0:00:38 > 0:00:41close to freezing in the east overall,
0:00:41 > 0:00:43it's a touch milder than it was on Saturday.
0:00:43 > 0:00:45Quite quickly though, temperatures will drop
0:00:45 > 0:00:48back down below freezing on Sunday evening.
0:00:48 > 0:00:51Still some showers to come in across parts of the east.
0:00:51 > 0:00:53A blue hue more extensive, if anything,
0:00:53 > 0:00:54the frost more widespread
0:00:54 > 0:00:56as we head into the new working week.
0:00:56 > 0:00:58These are the temperatures in the towns and cities
0:00:58 > 0:00:59so rural areas, particularly
0:00:59 > 0:01:02where there's any snow lying on the ground,
0:01:02 > 0:01:04will be significantly lower,
0:01:04 > 0:01:05even as low as -7 or -8.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07So, a cold start to the working week.
0:01:07 > 0:01:09Generally, a fine day across England and Wales
0:01:09 > 0:01:10but notice a change -
0:01:10 > 0:01:12the wind's not coming from the north any more,
0:01:12 > 0:01:14it's coming in from the west or southwest,
0:01:14 > 0:01:15bringing rain across Scotland
0:01:15 > 0:01:17and Northern Ireland by the end of the day.
0:01:17 > 0:01:19But eventually, also bringing some milder air.
0:01:19 > 0:01:21Elsewhere, the winds are relatively light,
0:01:21 > 0:01:23fine day, but after that cold start,
0:01:23 > 0:01:25we're going to struggle to get much above 6 or 7 Celsius.
0:01:25 > 0:01:27The rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland
0:01:27 > 0:01:30later on Monday crosses England and Wales
0:01:30 > 0:01:33overnight Monday into Tuesday. Follow the isobars.
0:01:33 > 0:01:34Now, they no longer point to the Arctic,
0:01:34 > 0:01:37they point well out into the Atlantic.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40Not exactly warm but just nothing like
0:01:40 > 0:01:42as perishingly cold as it is currently.
0:01:42 > 0:01:45The rain across East Anglia and the south-east
0:01:45 > 0:01:47will clear away steadily during Tuesday
0:01:47 > 0:01:50and we're left behind with sunny spells and showers.
0:01:50 > 0:01:52Those winds coming from the Atlantic bringing plenty
0:01:52 > 0:01:54of moisture so there will be a fair few showers.
0:01:54 > 0:01:57This high pressure continues to build in on Wednesday.
0:01:57 > 0:01:58Again, follow the isobars.
0:01:58 > 0:02:01They point north-west so there will be, initially,
0:02:01 > 0:02:03a cold feel about those winds
0:02:03 > 0:02:04but not as cold and, again,
0:02:04 > 0:02:06there will be showers chiefly
0:02:06 > 0:02:08as the moisture hits the land
0:02:08 > 0:02:09across western parts of the UK,
0:02:09 > 0:02:12many eastern areas staying dry and bright.
0:02:12 > 0:02:13Temperatures, actually, by Wednesday,
0:02:13 > 0:02:16around about the average for the time of year.
0:02:16 > 0:02:17This high dominating over the Azores
0:02:17 > 0:02:20is still with us, still controlling things
0:02:20 > 0:02:22and pushing the low-pressure systems
0:02:22 > 0:02:23to the north of the UK.
0:02:23 > 0:02:25Again, the isobars pointing up to the north-west.
0:02:25 > 0:02:26Not particularly warm
0:02:26 > 0:02:28but compared to current conditions,
0:02:28 > 0:02:30it will feel, again, a lot milder.
0:02:30 > 0:02:32A weak weather front bringing some patchy rain
0:02:32 > 0:02:34into the north-west but for most,
0:02:34 > 0:02:35Thursday is a dry day
0:02:35 > 0:02:37with those temperatures around or, if anything,
0:02:37 > 0:02:39a little above average by the end of the day.
0:02:39 > 0:02:41And it will turn a bit milder still come the end of the week.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44Through Friday and into the first half of the weekend,
0:02:44 > 0:02:45milder air pushing in.
0:02:45 > 0:02:49This is the jet stream, that fast-moving ribbon of air,
0:02:49 > 0:02:51keeping the low pressures to the north, initially.
0:02:51 > 0:02:54But as we go towards next weekend,
0:02:54 > 0:02:57it looks like we'll see the jet stream becoming more
0:02:57 > 0:03:00east-west across the UK and the colder air arrives as well
0:03:00 > 0:03:04so we're going to see some flip-flopping next weekend.
0:03:04 > 0:03:06Wet and windy spells because that's what the jet stream does -
0:03:06 > 0:03:10when it drives across the UK, it brings us low-pressure systems.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12Temperatures overall will be around about average
0:03:12 > 0:03:15but we'll probably see one milder day followed by a colder day
0:03:15 > 0:03:19and it won't rain all the time, there will be some drier spells in-between.
0:03:19 > 0:03:21But a lot of chopping and changing going on.
0:03:21 > 0:03:22It could be quite interesting,
0:03:22 > 0:03:24particularly with the ground saturated.
0:03:24 > 0:03:26Heavy rain not welcome next weekend.
0:03:26 > 0:03:30We'll keep you updated on everything, of course. Goodbye.
0:03:31 > 0:03:33My life is coming to an end.
0:03:35 > 0:03:38Present, future, past -
0:03:38 > 0:03:41it was all concentrated down into the moment.
0:03:41 > 0:03:43I'm alive, I'm alive! HE LAUGHS
0:03:43 > 0:03:47Imagine celebrates Julien Temple's The Ecstasy Of Wilko Johnson.
