0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Wetter and windier conditions

0:00:04 > 0:00:06seem to be dominating over the drier weather.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08The reason is all down to big temperature

0:00:08 > 0:00:10contrasts across the North Atlantic.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13We've seen some very cold air push out to northern Canada recently.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16That's hitting very warm tropical air to the south,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18and on our latitude that dividing line.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21Those temperature contrasts fire up a particularly strong jet stream.

0:00:21 > 0:00:25That jet stream fires up some active low-pressure systems.

0:00:25 > 0:00:26Another one with us on Sunday,

0:00:26 > 0:00:28following into the colder air across Scotland,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31significant snow in parts of the southern Highlands

0:00:31 > 0:00:33and the Grampians and at even lower levels later on.

0:00:33 > 0:00:37But elsewhere, cloudy outbreaks of rain and some very strong winds.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40Through the afternoon, we could see 60, maybe

0:00:40 > 0:00:4470mph gusts across parts of northern England and across Wales as well.

0:00:44 > 0:00:48But wherever you are, it will be a windy day on Sunday,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50and the winds pick up across the south into the afternoon.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53We've seen sunshine, showers through the morning,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55cloudy into the afternoon, but notice the black wind arrows.

0:00:55 > 0:00:59These are where gusts of wind are over 40mph, some close to 50,

0:00:59 > 0:01:01even 60mph even at this stage.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Wettest weather by the afternoon in parts of Wales and the Midlands.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07It brightens up but turns cold across northern England,

0:01:07 > 0:01:10sunshine and showers, as in Northern Ireland, with showers turning wintry

0:01:10 > 0:01:12mainly over the hills but even to lower levels,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14as will be the case across Scotland, after snow in the morning,

0:01:14 > 0:01:17more sleet and snow showers through the afternoon

0:01:17 > 0:01:20and temperatures only around three or four Celsius at best for many.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22And with the snow showers continuing here through Sunday night

0:01:22 > 0:01:25and into Monday, a significant ice risk possible.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Further south we'll see temperatures drop initially but then

0:01:27 > 0:01:31lift as we see another weather system pushing its way in, which

0:01:31 > 0:01:34will be running into cold air, and over the hills we could see snow,

0:01:34 > 0:01:36so maybe the tops of the Welsh mountains, the higher

0:01:36 > 0:01:39ground of Northern Ireland and into parts of northern England,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41too, especially on the Pennines.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43But here it is, the next system,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45running in on that temperature contrast I mentioned,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47a strong jet stream.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49This feature doesn't look like it'll get too far north.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52The northern edge of course always prone to some hill snow,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54but outbreaks of rain quite widely across England and Wales.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58And again, the saturated nature of the ground, rivers running high,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00we'll have to watch out for the risk of some flooding.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03Temperatures, like Sunday, nine to 13 degrees, southern half of the UK.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06Contrast that with the colder side of the jet stream,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09with sunshine and wintry showers only around two to five degrees.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Now, a risk of frost

0:02:11 > 0:02:13and ice again across the north into Tuesday morning,

0:02:13 > 0:02:16a brief ridge of high pressure before our system pushes its way

0:02:16 > 0:02:17northwards once again.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Rain initially across parts of England and Wales,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22pushing into Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:02:22 > 0:02:24but taking milder air with it, still

0:02:24 > 0:02:27though with the significant risk of snow over the Scottish mountains.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30So we're all into the milder air as we finish Tuesday

0:02:30 > 0:02:31and go into Wednesday.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34Windy conditions across the board, and our weather front wriggles

0:02:34 > 0:02:36back into the next system set to push its way in.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38There just doesn't seem to be any let-up,

0:02:38 > 0:02:41and that's that active jet stream I mentioned.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43Very mild for the time of year, 11 to 14 Celsius across the board,

0:02:43 > 0:02:46the most persistent rain in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49A band of rain sweeps across England and Wales into Thursday

0:02:49 > 0:02:52and another area of low pressure potentially towards the west.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54That one we'll have to watch. A lot of uncertainty about this,

0:02:54 > 0:02:57but it could bring some pretty strong winds.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59And as it all pushes through, we're back into slightly colder

0:02:59 > 0:03:02air once again with the risk of some overnight frost.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05But as we end the week, the overnight frost is then replaced by

0:03:05 > 0:03:07strengthening south-westerly winds

0:03:07 > 0:03:10as our jet stream whips up a deepening area of low pressure

0:03:10 > 0:03:13way out towards the North Atlantic.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Now, Friday probably a little bit drier towards the south

0:03:15 > 0:03:18and the east, but some windy conditions across the board.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20Rain spreads, and into the start of next weekend,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23a chilly start, further spells of rain around, low-pressure

0:03:23 > 0:03:26systems still coming our way, still pretty windy at times, too.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28We may have to wait till the middle

0:03:28 > 0:03:30of December before things turn quieter.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34Roger. Roger!

0:03:34 > 0:03:36You've met Matva, I've just hired her.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39I want you all to be vigilant, we need you to be vigilant.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42The African lady, she had nothing to do with it, then? Erm, no.
