0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hi there. It's fair to say we've come out of one week of fairly turbulent

0:00:06 > 0:00:10weather, and we're about to go into one that's not very dissimilar.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13Now, we will see some brighter skies on the horizon like we did

0:00:13 > 0:00:16in this shot from one of our Weather Watchers in Scotland yesterday,

0:00:16 > 0:00:19but the week ahead will still have those very windy spells,

0:00:19 > 0:00:22gales or severe gales around some hills and coasts.

0:00:22 > 0:00:23Quite a bit of wet weather for some.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26That will raise the risk of flooding here and there,

0:00:26 > 0:00:28but there will be milder weather to come through the week.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31What's driving this turbulent pattern is the temperature

0:00:31 > 0:00:34contrast across the North Atlantic, which extends towards our shores.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37In-between the two we see a very strong, active jet stream.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40That fires up the deep areas of low pressure which push towards us.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43And whilst we clear cold air out towards northern Europe,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45we bring in another one through Monday.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47It bring milder air to southern parts.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50As it hits the colder air further north, this is where we'll see

0:00:50 > 0:00:52snow, of course, on the hills of northern England, Scotland

0:00:52 > 0:00:55and Northern Ireland, outbreaks of rain south of that.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57Dry moments towards the south coast,

0:00:57 > 0:01:00but it's here where the strongest winds will be through Monday,

0:01:00 > 0:01:03gusts of 40, maybe 50mph, but temperatures in double figures.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05North of our area of rain,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08this is where cold air tries a fightback later on.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10Four or five degrees at best for Scotland, Northern Ireland

0:01:10 > 0:01:12and the far north of England,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14and it's here where a very cold night will follow.

0:01:14 > 0:01:19But that battle between cold and warmer air continues into Tuesday,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22the cold air starting to be squeezed out once again by the milder

0:01:22 > 0:01:25air by the end of Monday night. 12 Celsius across the south.

0:01:25 > 0:01:29In Scotland, where there's snow lying on the ground in rural parts

0:01:29 > 0:01:33we could see temperatures of around minus ten.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37But through Tuesday, we'll see a drastic, drastic change here.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39Now, the mild air pushes in the south-west winds.

0:01:39 > 0:01:40Outbreaks of rain to begin with.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Similar sort of areas to Monday, pushing its way

0:01:43 > 0:01:44northwards, snow even to lower

0:01:44 > 0:01:48levels across parts of Scotland but eventually turning back to rain.

0:01:48 > 0:01:49And by the end of the day,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52we're into south-westerly winds, temperatures at, if not above,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54where it should be for the time of year.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Big contrast to what we've seen in Scotland.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Very murky conditions with the outbreaks of rain,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00a little bit drier and brighter to the south-east.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03We're in a warm sector as we go through into Wednesday,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05but the cold air tries to push back as another deep area of low

0:02:05 > 0:02:08pressure pushes to the north-west of the UK.

0:02:08 > 0:02:09A blustery day across the board,

0:02:09 > 0:02:12driest for longest in the south and east, quite a squally

0:02:12 > 0:02:15cold front pushing its way eastwards, bouts of heavy rain,

0:02:15 > 0:02:18gusty winds, brighter later on, but then this little hook.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20This is only a low risk at the moment,

0:02:20 > 0:02:24but it could produce some very nasty winds to end Wednesday

0:02:24 > 0:02:26and go through the night for a short time.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29It turns quieter into Thursday morning, another frosty start,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32bright start across some northern areas with lighter winds.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35Stronger winds developing through the English Channel,

0:02:35 > 0:02:37but it's the day of lightest winds.

0:02:37 > 0:02:38But across these southernmost areas

0:02:38 > 0:02:41the potential for some heavy and persistent rain

0:02:41 > 0:02:43and, given the ground is saturated, river levels high,

0:02:43 > 0:02:46that could cause some flooding issues.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49As it pulls away, that rain, the potential for strong and gusty winds.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52But then we switch fortunes around to Friday,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54a ridge of high pressure in the south, drier and brighter,

0:02:54 > 0:02:57less windy with what will happen further north, strong and gusty

0:02:57 > 0:03:00winds, outbreaks of rain, becoming heavy and persistent later.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03But it's south-westerly winds, temperatures on the up yet again.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05And then a very windy spell to take us through the night

0:03:05 > 0:03:07and into the start of the weekend.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10But just look at our temperature chart again for this weekend,

0:03:10 > 0:03:11these fluctuating temperatures,

0:03:11 > 0:03:15which will continue through the weekend and into next week, too.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18See-saw temperatures, in that some days will be milder, some colder.

0:03:18 > 0:03:19A small chance of snow

0:03:19 > 0:03:23in Scotland and the hills of northern England and Northern Ireland,

0:03:23 > 0:03:24but still very windy at times.

0:03:24 > 0:03:28But the chance of something a little bit drier for a little bit

0:03:28 > 0:03:31longer in the south and the east. Take care.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36This is the FA Cup and anything can happen.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38Unbelievable!

0:03:38 > 0:03:39What a goal!

0:03:41 > 0:03:44Altrincham are FA Cup giant killers once again.
