0:00:03 > 0:00:06The weather may make the headlines through the start of the weekend,
0:00:06 > 0:00:09because we've got the fourth named storm
0:00:09 > 0:00:11already bringing some strong winds and some heavy rain
0:00:11 > 0:00:13to the north and west of the United Kingdom.
0:00:13 > 0:00:16Here it is on the satellite sequence. It's Storm Desmond.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18It's named because we are expecting some significant impacts
0:00:18 > 0:00:21from a combination of strong winds and heavy rainfall.
0:00:21 > 0:00:23Amber rainfall warnings have been issued
0:00:23 > 0:00:25for southern Scotland and northern England.
0:00:25 > 0:00:27Be prepared for some heavy and persistent rain
0:00:27 > 0:00:28in this part of the world.
0:00:28 > 0:00:31That amber warning extends for more than 24 hours.
0:00:31 > 0:00:33Further south, a much quieter picture.
0:00:33 > 0:00:34It's still pretty windy.
0:00:34 > 0:00:37Some very lively gusts around the coast and over the hills,
0:00:37 > 0:00:39probably gusting to around about 50mph.
0:00:39 > 0:00:42Inland, around about 40mph, maybe, a bit more for some.
0:00:42 > 0:00:43So, a very blustery afternoon.
0:00:43 > 0:00:46But most places dry in spite of a lot of cloud.
0:00:46 > 0:00:50Then we head further north and we're into the amber rain warning zone.
0:00:50 > 0:00:53At lower levels, we're looking at a good 60 to 100mm of rain.
0:00:53 > 0:00:56Up over the higher grounds, we could see as much as 200mm of rain.
0:00:56 > 0:00:58All that water has to go somewhere.
0:00:58 > 0:01:02And gusts of wind, 60, possibly even 70mph in a few places.
0:01:02 > 0:01:04No doubt there'll be some transport disruption
0:01:04 > 0:01:07with that combination of severe gales and heavy rain.
0:01:07 > 0:01:09BBC local radio should keep you up-to-date where you are.
0:01:09 > 0:01:12It continues to pour across northern England, southern Scotland,
0:01:12 > 0:01:15through Saturday night and into the small hours of Sunday morning.
0:01:15 > 0:01:18The intensity of that rainfall just slowly eases down
0:01:18 > 0:01:20as the main area of rain shifts further southwards.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23It stays mild towards the south and east. Still in double figures here.
0:01:23 > 0:01:26But towards the north and west, just slipping into single figures.
0:01:26 > 0:01:28Nothing too untoward for this time of the year.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31And then through Sunday, still breezy from the north and west.
0:01:31 > 0:01:35Those weather fronts continue to clear away from the south-east,
0:01:35 > 0:01:37but it could be a slow process.
0:01:37 > 0:01:39We'll see a fair bit of cloud and outbreaks of rain
0:01:39 > 0:01:41across central, eastern, southern parts of England.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44But the intensity of the rain easing down all the while.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47Some improvements later on for north of Wales, northern England.
0:01:47 > 0:01:50Southern Scotland, Northern Ireland, doing well until the afternoon.
0:01:50 > 0:01:52Single figures in Scotland and Northern Ireland,
0:01:52 > 0:01:55but hanging on to double figures across most of England and Wales.
0:01:55 > 0:01:56Still quite mild here.
0:01:56 > 0:01:58Then on into Monday,
0:01:58 > 0:02:01and the next Atlantic low swings its way north across the UK.
0:02:01 > 0:02:04It'll bring some rain with it and some fairly brisk winds.
0:02:04 > 0:02:07Always wettest and windiest in the north and west of the United Kingdom.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10The further south and east you are, through the day on Monday,
0:02:10 > 0:02:13probably staying dry, some breaks in the cloud, and still quite mild.
0:02:13 > 0:02:16In fact, it's mild across Scotland - 11 to 13 degrees.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19And then through Monday night and on into Tuesday.
0:02:19 > 0:02:21Further weather fronts moving their way
0:02:21 > 0:02:23towards the south and east of the UK,
0:02:23 > 0:02:25so we may well start Tuesday on a wet note
0:02:25 > 0:02:27across some eastern parts of England, breezy, too.
0:02:27 > 0:02:30Then following on behind, something a little bit drier,
0:02:30 > 0:02:32but always some showers coming in on that breeze.
0:02:32 > 0:02:36Still relatively mild across England and Wales - 12, 13 degrees.
0:02:36 > 0:02:37And not so bad in Scotland - 8 or 9.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40Then as we get on into the middle of the week,
0:02:40 > 0:02:42things look like they'll settle down for most places
0:02:42 > 0:02:44with this ridge of high pressure just building in.
0:02:44 > 0:02:46Low pressure to the north-west
0:02:46 > 0:02:49is set to bring more rain to the north-west,
0:02:49 > 0:02:51and there'll be a bit of a breeze associated with that.
0:02:51 > 0:02:52The further south and east you go,
0:02:52 > 0:02:55that's where the best of the dry and bright weather is.
0:02:55 > 0:02:58And still into double figures for many parts of the UK.
0:02:58 > 0:02:59So, the middle part of next week,
0:02:59 > 0:03:01the big picture sees high pressure to the south,
0:03:01 > 0:03:03low pressure to the north,
0:03:03 > 0:03:05and these resultant south-westerly winds
0:03:05 > 0:03:06keeping most places on the mild side.
0:03:06 > 0:03:09But I think we will see a bit of a change later next week
0:03:09 > 0:03:12as a north-westerly breeze begins to develop.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14That's just going to bring those temperatures back down
0:03:14 > 0:03:16to something nearer where they should be.
0:03:16 > 0:03:19But it's also going to bring further outbreaks of rain,
0:03:19 > 0:03:20so still an unsettled look to things
0:03:20 > 0:03:22with some spells of rain moving through.
0:03:22 > 0:03:24Always wettest and windiest in the north and west.
0:03:24 > 0:03:26Driest in the south and east.
0:03:26 > 0:03:27Those temperatures coming back down
0:03:27 > 0:03:29to something much nearer the norm.
0:03:33 > 0:03:36There once was a sprout with love to give
0:03:36 > 0:03:39Looking for friends to spend Christmas with
0:03:40 > 0:03:42A baker he met whilst out and about
0:03:42 > 0:03:45Said, "I love Christmas pudding and would not go without
