0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello there. We have seen some very severe

0:00:05 > 0:00:09and dangerous weather over the past 24 to 48 hours or so, all courtesy

0:00:09 > 0:00:13of Storm Desmond, the fourth named storm here in the UK and Ireland.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15You can see it on the satellite image.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17Weather fronts from this storm

0:00:17 > 0:00:19have been stretching right back into the Atlantic,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21unleashing a very large amount of rainfall.

0:00:21 > 0:00:22During the day on Saturday,

0:00:22 > 0:00:25we had red warnings from the Met office for that

0:00:25 > 0:00:27very heavy rainfall, which brought severe flooding

0:00:27 > 0:00:30across parts of Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32Things are looking quieter

0:00:32 > 0:00:34as we head through the next 24 hours or so.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37However, river levels will lag behind the rainfall,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39so, still flooding is a major problem on Sunday.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Although for most places, a drier day,

0:00:41 > 0:00:42a few splashes of rain

0:00:42 > 0:00:45across southern parts of England and Wales.

0:00:45 > 0:00:46Still breezy in the south,

0:00:46 > 0:00:48but an improving story further north.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51The return to some sunshine across Northern Ireland,

0:00:51 > 0:00:52northern England and Scotland,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54temperatures about eight to 13 Celsius.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57But with severe flooding ongoing, particularly across

0:00:57 > 0:00:59north-west England and southern Scotland,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02we are likely to see disruption to travel

0:01:02 > 0:01:05continuing and severe flood warnings still in force.

0:01:05 > 0:01:06Here is the Floodline number

0:01:06 > 0:01:09if you are concerned about flooding in your part of the world.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11So, into the latter part of Sunday,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13things are turning a bit quieter,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16but still unsettled. Rain returning northwards

0:01:16 > 0:01:19and eastwards across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21The rain becoming fairly light and patchy

0:01:21 > 0:01:23as it presses across Cumbria, for instance,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25but still, it is very unwelcome rainfall,

0:01:25 > 0:01:28falling on saturated ground,

0:01:28 > 0:01:29river levels still very high.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31Through the day on Monday,

0:01:31 > 0:01:32as we start the new working week,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34low pressure still driving our weather,

0:01:34 > 0:01:35and fairly tight isobars,

0:01:35 > 0:01:38particularly across the north-west.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Again, gales or severe gales around the coast,

0:01:40 > 0:01:42another spell of rain working across parts of Scotland.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44For much of the country, we will see

0:01:44 > 0:01:46a drier interlude in the weather,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48a return to something drier and brighter.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50In the south-east, we could see temperatures of 14,

0:01:50 > 0:01:53so still exceptionally mild for this time of year.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57But rain working into the north and west once again.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59This is rolling through Monday night

0:01:59 > 0:02:00and on into Tuesday.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03This cold front just dragging across the country.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05It will be fairly slow to clear.

0:02:05 > 0:02:06It will bring some spells of rain,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08working their way eastwards across

0:02:08 > 0:02:10much of the country. Further wintry showers

0:02:10 > 0:02:12possible across the hills of Scotland,

0:02:12 > 0:02:15but for most places, staying pretty mild,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17nine to 13 Celsius or so. A hint of a change

0:02:17 > 0:02:19into the middle part of the week,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21this is later on Tuesday into Wednesday,

0:02:21 > 0:02:23you can see high pressure take more of a hold

0:02:23 > 0:02:25of the weather towards the south.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27Weather fronts still pushing

0:02:27 > 0:02:28into the north and west, though.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31So, through Wednesday, another spell of rain again

0:02:31 > 0:02:32for parts of Northern Ireland,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Scotland, possibly north-west England,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37drier and brighter the further south and east you are.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Still on the mild side for the time of year.

0:02:40 > 0:02:41Rolling through into Thursday,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43you can start to see more of the influence of

0:02:43 > 0:02:45that high pressure across the near continent.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47Low pressure out towards the north-west.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49Still a blustery feel to the weather,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51with a front working southwards and eastwards,

0:02:51 > 0:02:54but fizzling out somewhat as it bumps into

0:02:54 > 0:02:57that higher pressure towards the south-east.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59So, the middle part of next week,

0:02:59 > 0:03:01dominated by plenty of areas of low pressure,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03mainly out towards the north-west of the UK.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05High pressure further south and east,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07drawing in this mild west or south-westerly airflow,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10but later next week and on into next weekend,

0:03:10 > 0:03:12the winds change to more of a north-westerly

0:03:12 > 0:03:14direction as we see high pressure

0:03:14 > 0:03:16building in from the south-west.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18So, a subtle change in wind direction,

0:03:18 > 0:03:21bringing a quieter spell of weather through the latter part of

0:03:21 > 0:03:23next week, a return to some overnight frost,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25but it looks like the unsettled weather continues,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28with rain arriving later on in the ten-day period.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29That's it for now, goodbye.
