0:00:02 > 0:00:06Hello. The weekend's severe weather has become record-breaking,

0:00:06 > 0:00:07if you haven't already heard.

0:00:07 > 0:00:12It was the wettest 24-hour period on record across the north-west,

0:00:12 > 0:00:15with significant rainfall driving in

0:00:15 > 0:00:17on this plume of warm, moist air

0:00:17 > 0:00:20and gale or severe gale force gusts of wind.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23So in Honister in the Lake District,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25341mm of rain was recorded.

0:00:25 > 0:00:29Monday was a different day, with some broken cloud, largely dry,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31and incredibly mild, with that southerly wind,

0:00:31 > 0:00:36temperatures peaking at 16 degrees across west Wales, 61 Fahrenheit.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39We keep some lengthy dry spells over the next few days.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Not quite as mild, but does look as though

0:00:41 > 0:00:45our next spell of significant rain is likely on Wednesday.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48Got some rain clearing away first thing Tuesday morning

0:00:48 > 0:00:52across the south and east, and then behind, a trail of showers.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Showers most widespread the further west you are,

0:00:54 > 0:00:56some of them heavy and possibly thundery,

0:00:56 > 0:00:59and feeling just that little bit fresher as well,

0:00:59 > 0:01:00top temperatures of 6 or 7 degrees.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Brighter conditions, perhaps, into eastern Scotland

0:01:03 > 0:01:06and east of the Pennines. Still the potential for a cluster of showers

0:01:06 > 0:01:08across the Lake District in particular,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10and stretching down through east Wales.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13Into the East Midlands, south-east corner,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16sunny spells and highs of 11 or 12 Celsius.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Now as we move through Tuesday evening and overnight,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22we'll see a ridge of high pressure building

0:01:22 > 0:01:23and temperatures falling away,

0:01:23 > 0:01:26so it'll be a chillier night to follow,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28and in fact we could see low single figures in rural spots.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31A touch of ground frost not out of the question.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34There'll be some rain pushing into the far north-west again,

0:01:34 > 0:01:37and this is how we start our day on Wednesday.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39There's a rather complicated set of fronts

0:01:39 > 0:01:41waiting out in the wings in the Atlantic,

0:01:41 > 0:01:43the isobars squeezing together,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45yet more wet weather to come,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48but nowhere near as heavy or as significant

0:01:48 > 0:01:50as the theme that we had over the weekend.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53There will be some windy weather, there'll be gales on exposed coasts,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55severe gales up into the far north-west,

0:01:55 > 0:01:58with the heaviest of the rain into the north-west during the afternoon,

0:01:58 > 0:02:01but for most of us, Wednesday stays dry during daylight hours,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03highs of 10 to 12 degrees.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07That weather front continues to sink its way south and east

0:02:07 > 0:02:09during Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Again, still the isobars squeezing together,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14gales are still likely.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16So it's going to be a wet and windy night to follow

0:02:16 > 0:02:19but the rain easing considerably as it pushes south and east.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Here, still mild with that south-westerly flow,

0:02:21 > 0:02:25but the wind swinging more to a westerly on Thursday

0:02:25 > 0:02:28and it will be a cooler, fresher feel, with showers turning wintry

0:02:28 > 0:02:30to the tops of higher ground.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Still stays rather blustery as we move into Wednesday,

0:02:33 > 0:02:36again with enhanced showers the further north and west you go,

0:02:36 > 0:02:37but this area of low pressure

0:02:37 > 0:02:40an area of uncertainty as we move into the weekend.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43So Friday looks likely to be cooler and showery

0:02:43 > 0:02:46to the north and west with 6 or 7 degrees,

0:02:46 > 0:02:4910 to 12, drier weather, across central and southern areas.

0:02:49 > 0:02:53There is a great level of uncertainty as to the timings and the position

0:02:53 > 0:02:55of this area of low pressure as we move into the weekend,

0:02:55 > 0:02:59but there is the potential to bring yet more wet weather with it.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03More importantly, it drags up this southerly flow again,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05so the milder air returns for the start of the weekend

0:03:05 > 0:03:09after that brief, slightly fresher feel to things.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12So double figures again across the country,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15and we could see some significant snow to the tops of higher ground

0:03:15 > 0:03:19as that frontal system continues to push its way steadily north.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22The jet stream sits to the north and west into next week,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24so for the longer six to ten-day period,

0:03:24 > 0:03:27the wettest and the windiest weather to the north-west,

0:03:27 > 0:03:29the best of the drier weather in the south and east.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33After 17 years with the Royal Ballet,

0:03:33 > 0:03:35Carlos Acosta is coming home.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37Cuba has a wealth of artists.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39Rhythms - this is the place.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41Dancing - this is the place.
