0:00:02 > 0:00:03Thanks for joining me.
0:00:03 > 0:00:06The next ten days aren't really going to bring an awful lot of change.
0:00:06 > 0:00:09The weather patterns are going to stay essentially the same.
0:00:09 > 0:00:12Areas of low pressure will keep coming off the Atlantic
0:00:12 > 0:00:13to bring wind and rain,
0:00:13 > 0:00:15and this is what's happening right now across the UK.
0:00:15 > 0:00:18You can see quite angry cloud here coming off the Atlantic.
0:00:18 > 0:00:20It's been very windy off north-western Scotland,
0:00:20 > 0:00:22north-western England as well.
0:00:22 > 0:00:24You can see a lot of isobars here through Wednesday night
0:00:24 > 0:00:27into the early hours of Thursday,
0:00:27 > 0:00:29and gales in some places in excess of 50-60mph.
0:00:29 > 0:00:32But, of course, we've been really focusing on the rainfall -
0:00:32 > 0:00:3620-40mm of rain I think overnight across parts of the Lake District,
0:00:36 > 0:00:38also northern parts of Wales.
0:00:38 > 0:00:42Not the phenomenal amount that we had during the course of the weekend,
0:00:42 > 0:00:45but still any rainfall across this part of the world
0:00:45 > 0:00:47sends shivers down our spines.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50But further south, I think, towards the early hours of Thursday,
0:00:50 > 0:00:54that's where the rain will end up, so across Wales, into the Midlands too.
0:00:54 > 0:00:57Relatively mild across the south, 10 degrees in London.
0:00:57 > 0:01:00It's in Scotland and Northern Ireland where we've got the colder weather
0:01:00 > 0:01:03and that's because a cold front will be crossing the country
0:01:03 > 0:01:06in the course of early Thursday and through Thursday afternoon.
0:01:06 > 0:01:08Behind the cold front - this is where it is, in the south -
0:01:08 > 0:01:11it'll be fresher with some sunshine, across Yorkshire, for example.
0:01:11 > 0:01:14But some wintry showers across northern parts of Scotland,
0:01:14 > 0:01:16particularly across the hills here, I think.
0:01:16 > 0:01:19So quite a blustery, cold day and it still will be blowing a gale,
0:01:19 > 0:01:23particularly across northern Scotland and the Northern Isles.
0:01:23 > 0:01:26Further south, not quite so windy but still fairly blustery.
0:01:26 > 0:01:29You can see some showers getting into Cumbria for example,
0:01:29 > 0:01:32but there'll probably be a slither of better weather, I think,
0:01:32 > 0:01:34across Yorkshire, perhaps the north Midlands,
0:01:34 > 0:01:37but it's the south that's going to be stuck underneath that cold front
0:01:37 > 0:01:40with the slightly milder air ahead of it.
0:01:40 > 0:01:41So in Brighton, 11 degrees,
0:01:41 > 0:01:44but it will be cloudy and actually most of the rain is going to fall
0:01:44 > 0:01:48across south-western England, the West Country and also southern Wales.
0:01:48 > 0:01:50We're going to be stuck with this cloudy,
0:01:50 > 0:01:53wetter weather across the south through the course of Friday.
0:01:53 > 0:01:55We'll keep the slightly milder air as well,
0:01:55 > 0:01:59at least 10, 11, 12 degrees whereas it remains cold
0:01:59 > 0:02:02and blustery with a few wintry showers across the hills in Scotland.
0:02:02 > 0:02:05Now, the weekend is going to turn milder, just that little bit milder,
0:02:05 > 0:02:07particularly across northern parts of the UK.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10With that comes a spell of further rain, but there is some
0:02:10 > 0:02:13uncertainty exactly where most of the rain's going to fall.
0:02:13 > 0:02:14So through Saturday and Sunday,
0:02:14 > 0:02:17this is where our next area of low pressure forms.
0:02:17 > 0:02:20You can see it extends this weather front in our general direction
0:02:20 > 0:02:22and you'll see it's a relatively narrow band of rain
0:02:22 > 0:02:26but probably affecting western areas of the UK, quite possibly moving into
0:02:26 > 0:02:29the Lake District, but a little nudge north or south changes the forecast.
0:02:29 > 0:02:32But I think the main message is that this area of low pressure
0:02:32 > 0:02:33sitting just towards the west of us
0:02:33 > 0:02:37will shunt milder conditions as far north as Scotland.
0:02:37 > 0:02:39Not desperately mild, but it won't be quite so chilly
0:02:39 > 0:02:42and I don't think we're going to have those wintry showers any more.
0:02:42 > 0:02:45So on Monday, we're talking about southerly winds.
0:02:45 > 0:02:4911, 12 degrees in the south, around 7, 8 maybe
0:02:49 > 0:02:51a little bit further north with outbreaks of rain.
0:02:51 > 0:02:53Now, the outlook - early next week,
0:02:53 > 0:02:57it does look as if that area of low pressure will be staying to the
0:02:57 > 0:03:00south-west of us, so again bringing spells of rain and wind,
0:03:00 > 0:03:04but there's a hint that as we head towards the middle parts
0:03:04 > 0:03:07of next week, high pressure will be forming quite close to the UK.
0:03:07 > 0:03:09In fact, there's going to be a battle -
0:03:09 > 0:03:10whether the low wins or the high wins,
0:03:10 > 0:03:15so there is almost an equal chance of some fine weather or wet weather,
0:03:15 > 0:03:18but it will be quite mixed across the country wherever you are.
0:03:18 > 0:03:20But ultimately, I think the basic message is,
0:03:20 > 0:03:22in ten days' time or sooner,
0:03:22 > 0:03:24we'll see the jet stream strengthening,
0:03:24 > 0:03:26piling across the Atlantic
0:03:26 > 0:03:29and bringing more areas of low pressure with wind and rain.
0:03:31 > 0:03:33Christmas Day may be the highlight of the holidays...
0:03:33 > 0:03:35Oh, yes. ..but all that pressure in the kitchen...
