0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello, thanks for tuning in to the weather for the week ahead.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09Over the next three or four days, there isn't going to be much

0:00:09 > 0:00:10change on the weather front.

0:00:10 > 0:00:14So this pattern where we've got the colder weather across Scotland

0:00:14 > 0:00:18and the milder, cloudy weather in the south isn't really going to shift.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20This is the satellite picture from Thursday.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23This is the forecast first thing in the morning on Friday.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25Look how mild it is first thing, 9 degrees.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28But we've got weather cold enough for some wintry showers across Scotland.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31That's how it's going to stay through the course of Friday.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34No real difference, milder in the south, colder in the north.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36But there will be some sunshine around.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39So, actually, the weather for many of us isn't that bad at all.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42Let's have a look at a snapshot of Friday afternoon.

0:00:42 > 0:00:43This is three o'clock.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45You can see it is chilly in Inverness, 3 degrees.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47But we've got some sunshine around.

0:00:47 > 0:00:51The breeze is quite strong, so it will feel fairly chilly.

0:00:51 > 0:00:557 degrees there, Belfast, with one or two showers.

0:00:55 > 0:00:56Look at this swathe of the country all

0:00:56 > 0:00:59the way from Yorkshire across Wales and down into the

0:00:59 > 0:01:02Midlands, East Anglia, actually not a bad day at all.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04But the south of the country, here,

0:01:04 > 0:01:07the southern portion is cloudier with some spots of rain.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Here temperatures will be around 9 or 10 degrees.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13Not an awful lot of difference from the overnight temperature.

0:01:13 > 0:01:17On Friday night into Saturday, there will be a bit of a change on the way.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20We're still going to be talking about these dividing lines

0:01:20 > 0:01:22between the milder air to the south

0:01:22 > 0:01:25and the colder air to the north.

0:01:25 > 0:01:26This weather front here,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29what it is going to do, through the course of Saturday morning,

0:01:29 > 0:01:34is actually slide along this zone of big temperature difference.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37What that means is where the rain engages that colder air

0:01:37 > 0:01:39in the north, it will properly turn to snow

0:01:39 > 0:01:42across parts of Cumbria Tom maybe the Pennines,

0:01:42 > 0:01:45it's really tricky to say exactly how much we're going to get.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48But I think the basic message is further south across Wales

0:01:48 > 0:01:51and into the Peak District, that will be rain.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Across the hills into the Pennines and Cumbria it will probably be snow.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57Only transient, we're only talking about a few hours worth of snow.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59Either side of that, the weather will be better.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02So mild again in the south, 13 degrees there in London,

0:02:02 > 0:02:06but colder for northern Scotland 3 or 4 degrees.

0:02:06 > 0:02:10On Sunday, again that low pressure still there.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12It is quite a slow-moving one really.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14Quite often low-pressures zip across the UK,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16but this one will be stuck just towards the west

0:02:16 > 0:02:20and south-west of us and this weak weather front will be slicing

0:02:20 > 0:02:22the country around about the Midlands.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25So that means the south coast will be mild

0:02:25 > 0:02:27again for December, around 12 degrees.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Just a hint as we head into Monday, that this low pressure will

0:02:30 > 0:02:33sort of take charge of the weather a little bit more across the UK.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36That means stronger winds, these weather fronts making a bit more

0:02:36 > 0:02:39progress to the north, so that means that the really chilly air

0:02:39 > 0:02:41that we will have seen across Scotland will actually

0:02:41 > 0:02:43move away further north.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45So that means temperatures there in the north of Scotland

0:02:45 > 0:02:47around 8 degrees or so.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49Rather than 3 or 4.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51A similar picture on Tuesday

0:02:51 > 0:02:53and that low-pressure is still out there, it's sitting there

0:02:53 > 0:02:55not really doing an awful lot.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58For the middle part of the week, so that's midweek next week, that

0:02:58 > 0:03:03low is still pumping in moisture and mild air from the southern climes.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06It's because of the orientation of the jet stream.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08Whenever we get this southerly component of the jet stream,

0:03:08 > 0:03:13the air comes in from the south, so that's why we got that milder air.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15But by the time we get to the latter part of the week,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18say in around 10 day's time, that low-pressure

0:03:18 > 0:03:21comes in more from the west and there's a chance that slightly

0:03:21 > 0:03:24colder air will be digging in behind these areas of low pressure.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26But before that happens, it's still uncertain,

0:03:26 > 0:03:29we could see a spell of slightly quieter weather, perhaps

0:03:29 > 0:03:31high-pressure, but it's still a long way off.

0:03:36 > 0:03:37Forensics found what was left.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41What do we do with something like this?

0:03:45 > 0:03:46Find our man.

0:03:47 > 0:03:49Sorry, mate, who are you again?

0:03:51 > 0:03:52Police.
