0:00:03 > 0:00:05Thanks for joining me. Let's see what's in store

0:00:05 > 0:00:06for the next ten days.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09As far as the here and now is concerned, the next

0:00:09 > 0:00:12couple of days, the weekend, no real change to our weather pattern.

0:00:12 > 0:00:16We have got the milder air sitting across southern parts of the UK.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19Colder air across Scotland and northern England.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21And actually, over the next 24 hours or so,

0:00:21 > 0:00:24we will see a bit of rain and snow across a zone

0:00:24 > 0:00:27of the country where the colder and the milder air clashes.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30This is what it looks like, early hours of Saturday morning.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33So we have a weather front approaching out of the west

0:00:33 > 0:00:35and it is going to engage the colder air

0:00:35 > 0:00:38that is sitting across the north of the UK.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41And that means a spell of some rain and snow.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44Anywhere from northern parts of Wales across the Pennines into Cumbria.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47To the south of that, it is almost certainly going to be rainfall,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49for example, across the north Midlands.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51But let's start with Scotland.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53This is around midday and we are in that cold,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55crisp air mass here.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57Now, the winds are a little bit lighter on Saturday

0:00:57 > 0:00:59compared to the last few days.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Some sunshine there for Inverness, Aberdeenshire,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03the lowlands of Scotland.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07Showers maybe for Northern Ireland after a wet start to the day.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09And here is that snow across the Pennines

0:01:09 > 0:01:10and to the south of that, it is rainfall,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13but there will be a big temperature contrast between say,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16the north Midlands and the south Midlands and the much milder

0:01:16 > 0:01:19conditions will be once again across the south of the country.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21Anywhere from Cornwall to the Kent coast will see

0:01:21 > 0:01:23temperatures of around 12 or 13 degrees.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26Now, this is the following night. Saturday night into Sunday.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28That weather front is out of the way

0:01:28 > 0:01:31and more of us are sitting in that colder air.

0:01:31 > 0:01:36So temperatures will tumble away as far south as the Midlands.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39So widespread frost first thing on Sunday morning.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43Down to minus-5 or minus-8 degrees across Scotland.

0:01:43 > 0:01:44And it will be a clear night.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47A good night early on Saturday night to catch a glimpse

0:01:47 > 0:01:49of some of those meteor showers we are having.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51The Geminids, I'm talking about.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54Here is the weather for Sunday.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57A little bit of cloud around across most of England and Wales.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00The best of the brightness will be in eastern areas

0:02:00 > 0:02:02but also some rain around for Belfast.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04And still chilly in Scotland.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06We are going to keep that cold weather for a time

0:02:06 > 0:02:10before slightly milder weather heads in the direction of Scotland

0:02:10 > 0:02:11from Monday onwards.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14This area of low pressure is going to move some of that milder air

0:02:14 > 0:02:17that we have had across the south into northern England and Scotland.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19So we are losing those threes and fours

0:02:19 > 0:02:22as far as the temperature goes, more like eight degrees.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24Now, Monday, you can see how extensive

0:02:24 > 0:02:26this mild air is across Europe.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30It has reached Scotland, it is certainly reaching the Low Countries.

0:02:30 > 0:02:34And in fact, whether you are in London or in Rome or Madrid,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37the temperature will be more or less the same, 12 or 13 degrees.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40It is across Scandinavia and the far, far east of Europe

0:02:40 > 0:02:41where we have got the cold air.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Even for Moscow, minus one degree isn't that cold

0:02:44 > 0:02:45at this time of year.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Now a look on Wednesday. Really mild across the south.

0:02:48 > 0:02:5013 degrees. Even in the north of Scotland,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53temperatures around ten degrees or so.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56Now, the end of the week, we are talking about next Thursday

0:02:56 > 0:02:59and Friday, some mild air.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02By the time we get to Friday and Saturday,

0:03:02 > 0:03:06we start to see a return of colder air heading our way.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09So that means that by the time we get to next weekend,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12things are going to cool off once again.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15There is a chance of some mountain snow across Scotland,

0:03:15 > 0:03:17northern parts of England.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20And then, just to give you a flavour as we head into the start

0:03:20 > 0:03:22of the Christmas week,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25it does look as though milder air is going to return once again.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27So it is chopping and changing, flipping and flopping

0:03:27 > 0:03:29from mild to cold back to mild.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35There once was a sprout with love to give

0:03:35 > 0:03:38Looking for friends to spend Christmas with

0:03:38 > 0:03:40He saw a light in the winter snow

0:03:40 > 0:03:44Where a baker baked cakes, but sadly said no

0:03:45 > 0:03:47Next, he heard the toymaker shout

0:03:47 > 0:03:49That nobody ever liked a sprout...

0:03:49 > 0:03:51Oh...

0:03:51 > 0:03:53He met a woodcutter who loved tinsel and trees
