0:00:02 > 0:00:05A few places in the south-east of the UK recorded their highest

0:00:05 > 0:00:07December temperature ever on Thursday.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10Normally, maximum temperatures this time of year

0:00:10 > 0:00:12around about seven to nine degrees ,

0:00:12 > 0:00:16but across the board nationwide again on Thursday,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18temperatures were well above average,

0:00:18 > 0:00:20peaking at around 16 or so in the south-east

0:00:20 > 0:00:23and Friday is another very mild start,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25some glimpses of the sun early in the morning

0:00:25 > 0:00:26across eastern areas,

0:00:26 > 0:00:28but it will be clouding over through the day

0:00:28 > 0:00:30with rain setting in

0:00:30 > 0:00:31across the northern half of the UK.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Further south, for most of the day,

0:00:33 > 0:00:34it's probably going to be dry.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36There may be a few showers across south-west Wales

0:00:36 > 0:00:39in the morning, up across the north Midlands.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41East Anglia and the south-east clouding over

0:00:41 > 0:00:42after a bright start,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44temperatures not quite as high as Thursday

0:00:44 > 0:00:46so rain arriving in northern England,

0:00:46 > 0:00:47chiefly in north-west England.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49It'll be raining for most of the day

0:00:49 > 0:00:50in Northern Ireland.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52Heavier rain later in the day setting in

0:00:52 > 0:00:54across the south-west of Scotland.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56There could be as much as two inches

0:00:56 > 0:00:58of rain before it clears away.

0:00:58 > 0:00:59The rain just keeps going

0:00:59 > 0:01:02into the evening across western Scotland,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04another band of rain coming in from the Atlantic

0:01:04 > 0:01:06bringing some heavier rain

0:01:06 > 0:01:08back into Northern Ireland and across Scotland,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10edging into England and Wales.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Another very mild night Friday night.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14It could be a record-breaking night.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16We've got this very mild air

0:01:16 > 0:01:18ahead of that weather front there.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20Behind it, the air's not particularly cold.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22The really cold air is some way away

0:01:22 > 0:01:25and it's not really heading our way just yet.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27So a very mild start to Saturday,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29some more rain clearing Scotland,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31maybe petering out across northern England,

0:01:31 > 0:01:32but likely to continue

0:01:32 > 0:01:33across Wales and the south-west.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36Heavy rain over the hills of south Wales,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38a couple of inches possible here.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41South-east of England generally dry and bright.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43Even across Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45the rain clears to some sunshine and some showers,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47temperatures well above average.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49These weather fronts on the scene,

0:01:49 > 0:01:51this one here is a waving weather front.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53There are pulses of rain on it, that's why we're getting

0:01:53 > 0:01:55so much rain across south Wales.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57Maybe returning to northern England,

0:01:57 > 0:01:58but, by Sunday,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00the heaviest rain is out into the North Sea.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03So we're into a more showery mix on Sunday,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05sunshine and blustery showers,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07temperatures beginning to drop away a little bit

0:02:07 > 0:02:09particularly across northern parts of the UK,

0:02:09 > 0:02:13but still above average for this time of year

0:02:13 > 0:02:15and then, steaming in from the Atlantic on Monday,

0:02:15 > 0:02:18another Atlantic weather front

0:02:18 > 0:02:20bringing wind and rain, gales, maybe severe gales

0:02:20 > 0:02:22and some heavy rain,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24especially over the western hills.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25Maybe the number of flood warnings

0:02:25 > 0:02:28will be increasing early in the week.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30The rain does clear away for most areas

0:02:30 > 0:02:32and it turns a bit brighter and more showery,

0:02:32 > 0:02:33blustery showers, mind you.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36Still a lot of isobars Monday into Tuesday,

0:02:36 > 0:02:39these weather fronts pepping up any showers

0:02:39 > 0:02:41cos broadly speaking, Tuesday,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43with that weather front away to the south,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45should be a day of sunshine and showers.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46Could be a bit of snow

0:02:46 > 0:02:49over the tops of the Scottish mountains,

0:02:49 > 0:02:50some slightly colder air here,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53still very mild to the south.

0:02:53 > 0:02:54Earlier on this week

0:02:54 > 0:02:55and for most of the week,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57we've had the winds coming in from the south,

0:02:57 > 0:03:00hence those very high temperatures

0:03:00 > 0:03:01and records being broken.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03But, as we approach Christmas time,

0:03:03 > 0:03:06a subtle change, more of a westerly wind,

0:03:06 > 0:03:09and that will steer areas of low pressure

0:03:09 > 0:03:11to the north of the UK.

0:03:11 > 0:03:12This is where it's going to be

0:03:12 > 0:03:13wettest and windiest.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Towards the south,

0:03:15 > 0:03:16we shouldn't get too much rain,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18but because the winds are from the west

0:03:18 > 0:03:19rather than the north-west,

0:03:19 > 0:03:22we're still in mild air

0:03:22 > 0:03:23for most of the time.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25There will be some brief incursions

0:03:25 > 0:03:27of colder air in the north of the UK

0:03:27 > 0:03:28so any snow over Christmas

0:03:28 > 0:03:30is in the Scottish mountains.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33# Out there in the dark

0:03:33 > 0:03:35# Out there in the dark

0:03:35 > 0:03:39# There's a beckoning candle, yeah

0:03:39 > 0:03:41# And while I can think

0:03:41 > 0:03:43# While I can talk

0:03:43 > 0:03:45# While I can stand

0:03:45 > 0:03:47# While I can walk
