0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. I'll come clean at the outset.

0:00:04 > 0:00:07I think most of us dreaming of a White Christmas

0:00:07 > 0:00:09will ultimately be disappointed but perhaps not all of us.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12A lot of fast moving changes in the days ahead.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14Certainly some wind and some rain.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16It will eventually turn a little bit chillier as well.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19Most of the rain first thing in the morning across Northern Ireland

0:00:19 > 0:00:22and Scotland. Some pretty wet weather to start the day.

0:00:22 > 0:00:23Some strong winds, too.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26That will be heading down towards the more southern and eastern areas.

0:00:26 > 0:00:27As a rule, if you start sunny,

0:00:27 > 0:00:30you'll turn wet. If you start wet, you'll turn sunny again.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33For Northern Ireland, Scotland, the more north-western parts

0:00:33 > 0:00:35of England and Wales, things cheering up.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39Another mild day, despite the wind and rain across the south and east.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42That set of fronts clears away, only to be followed by another

0:00:42 > 0:00:45set of fronts. They look quite complicated, don't they?

0:00:45 > 0:00:48What they really mean is a lot of heavy rain and some pretty strong

0:00:48 > 0:00:52winds, particularly across parts of north-west England, north-west Wales.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Warnings are in force for several hours of heavy rain here.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57Ahead of that, a very mild day.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Up into the mid teens yet again, in the London area.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Behind this set of fronts, although it brightens up, it will cool down.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Eight or nine. A bit of a transformation by Wednesday.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08The fronts are out of the way.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10A lot of sunshine for a time, bright and breezy.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Some showers across more north-western areas.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15Cold enough for snow, over the highest ground of Scotland.

0:01:15 > 0:01:16Seven or eight here,

0:01:16 > 0:01:19but still technically quite mild across the South East.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21And then, all eyes on a developing area of low pressure.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24It looks like spinning itself up and heading towards the far North West

0:01:24 > 0:01:28and within its circulation, we could see some really strong winds.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Severe gales possible. So we will keep a very close eye on that.

0:01:31 > 0:01:35The rain will then be heading down across the country

0:01:35 > 0:01:36later on in the day.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38So, a lot going on for Christmas Eve.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41If you are on the move, keep an eye on the forecast.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44Mild again to the south-east of that front. Chillier to the north-west.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47The showers could well be turning to snow across the high ground

0:01:47 > 0:01:50of Scotland, maybe Northern Ireland and northern England,

0:01:50 > 0:01:51as we head into Christmas Day.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54So, technically, perhaps a white Christmas for a few.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58As we get into Christmas Day, we are in the chillier air then.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00The question mark is how long that chillier air lasts.

0:02:00 > 0:02:04Certainly, for most of us, it'll be a cold, crisp start to the day.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06There could be a touch of frost where you are.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09And then we are going to see the warm air trying to push back in

0:02:09 > 0:02:10from the South West.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13There's a lot of uncertainty in the computer models

0:02:13 > 0:02:15about how quickly that happens

0:02:15 > 0:02:19but it does look as if eventually it will turn milder across the far

0:02:19 > 0:02:22South West and in the process, we will see some wet weather turning up.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25Now that would be trying to push its way further northwards

0:02:25 > 0:02:28and eastwards. After a bright, crisp start, it will cloud over

0:02:28 > 0:02:31and feel quite raw for most places on Christmas Day,

0:02:31 > 0:02:35before, as I say, those temperatures recover across the far South West.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39Into Boxing Day then and that milder air does push its way further

0:02:39 > 0:02:42northwards to most of us but perhaps the far north of Scotland

0:02:42 > 0:02:45holding onto the cold air for much of the day,

0:02:45 > 0:02:48so here, a raw feeling day - perhaps on Boxing Day,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50as opposed to the milder weather further south.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53It will be drier, 10-12, underneath the rain clouds with perhaps

0:02:53 > 0:02:56some snow, especially on the high ground of northern Scotland.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58Just 5 or 6 degrees here.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02Now into Sunday and the following week, it looks as if broadly,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05we will have low pressure to the West, higher pressure to the East.

0:03:05 > 0:03:09A run of southerly winds, quite gusty southerly winds as well.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12So to sum up next week, we think it will turn milder again.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15Quite dry, at least for a time particularly in the East,

0:03:15 > 0:03:19closer to the high pressure. Gusty winds and then as that low pressure

0:03:19 > 0:03:21tries to edge in from the West,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24the greatest chance of rain is across western parts of the UK.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27Keep an eye on the forecast. It will be changing day by day.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30Tom Schafernaker will update you tomorrow.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35Vera Claythorne.
