0:00:03 > 0:00:07We've got just about ten days left of 2015

0:00:07 > 0:00:10and we will have a look at the weather trends

0:00:10 > 0:00:11right up to New Year's Eve.

0:00:11 > 0:00:15The short-term, there really is very little change.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18We keep seeing this weather pattern across the Atlantic.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21An area of low pressure across the North Atlantic here

0:00:21 > 0:00:24spinning around, drawing in moisture all the way from the southern climes

0:00:24 > 0:00:27so the air is coming all the way from down here

0:00:27 > 0:00:30moving across the Azores heading in our direction.

0:00:30 > 0:00:31With the southerly winds on Tuesday,

0:00:31 > 0:00:35again it is going to be a very mild day across the south of the country.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39A little bit fresher across Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:00:39 > 0:00:43but, relatively speaking, not all that cold for this time of year -

0:00:43 > 0:00:457 degrees in Inverness, 9 for Glasgow.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47These are the sort of temperatures by day

0:00:47 > 0:00:49we should be having across the south of the country.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52Some rain middle of the afternoon across parts of northern

0:00:52 > 0:00:54England, Wales, down into the south-west.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57Look at all of this mild weather in the south-east

0:00:57 > 0:00:59and right across the Midlands, in fact.

0:00:59 > 0:01:0114 degrees for Northampton, 14 for Bournemouth.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04I think it is going to feel a little bit cooler

0:01:04 > 0:01:06because there will be quite a strong wind blowing.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08In fact, gale force winds around some of these coasts.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10We will see a set of weather fronts crossing

0:01:10 > 0:01:14the country during the course of Tuesday night into Wednesday.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16Wednesday early hours, there will be some showers around,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18but first thing in the morning on Wednesday,

0:01:18 > 0:01:20and through the afternoon a window of opportunity.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22We've got some fine weather about,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24bar the odd shower, it's actually going to be

0:01:24 > 0:01:27a fine day and quite crisp in Scotland for a change.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30Temperatures back down to around 5 degrees with some sunshine.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33So it could actually be quite frosty first thing in the morning.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Christmas Eve, a band of rain crossing the country,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37strong winds as well.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40There will be some sunshine about, I think quite a changeable day

0:01:40 > 0:01:44and if there will be any snow Christmas Eve into

0:01:44 > 0:01:48Christmas Day, it may be across the far north of the UK.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Now let's see what happens in the run-up to Christmas.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53This area of low pressure still Christmas Eve,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56is fast approaching the UK, but with the area of low pressure,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59we get a bulge of warmth and moisture heading our way.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02Look at this wave of moisture approaching the country,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05so you can imagine it's going to turn milder through Christmas Day,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07but notice that mild air doesn't

0:02:07 > 0:02:09quite reach the far north of Scotland.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12So, across the bulk of the UK, probably some rain around,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14wind, maybe a bit of dry weather.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16But in the far north there, in the Highlands,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19maybe some snow first thing in the morning on Christmas Day.

0:02:19 > 0:02:23But very quickly this mild air is going to reach the north of Scotland.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26That means that Boxing Day it is mild right across the board,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28there will be some sunshine around in the morning,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31particularly across eastern areas, but here is the wind,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33the rain and the weather fronts once more.

0:02:33 > 0:02:3613 degrees across the south, in the north of the UK around about

0:02:36 > 0:02:396 degrees there for Lowick, Shetland and Aberdeen.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42The pattern is not expected to change through Sunday -

0:02:42 > 0:02:45southerly winds, mild air, there's some rain around Scotland

0:02:45 > 0:02:47and some of these western areas here.

0:02:47 > 0:02:51Then as we had into early next week, again we keep getting these

0:02:51 > 0:02:54bulges of mild air, but look at this mild air reaching way far north here.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57If you want any cold weather and snow you have to head to Finland,

0:02:57 > 0:02:59this is where the chilly air is sitting.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01But for the bulk of the UK, and across Europe,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03it's staying very mild this Christmas.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06The weather pattern is not expected to change end of the month.

0:03:06 > 0:03:10For us to get any cold weather, this jet stream would have to be way

0:03:10 > 0:03:11towards the south,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13instead it is right over us, that means wind and rain.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Actually, a little bit too early to say

0:03:15 > 0:03:18what weather we will get on New Year's Eve itself,

0:03:18 > 0:03:22but the trend for the weather to stay relatively mild,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24quite windy and be prepared for some rain.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Hopefully it won't be a washout,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28it certainly doesn't look like it's going to be cold.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31That's it, thanks for watching.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36There once was a sprout with love to give
