0:00:04 > 0:00:06Hello, thanks for tuning in. The Christmas period

0:00:06 > 0:00:09and the run-up to the New Year will bring further severe weather.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11It'll be very changeable from day to day,

0:00:11 > 0:00:14but I think we have to be prepared for some very strong winds

0:00:14 > 0:00:16and some heavy rain almost anywhere in the UK.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19And this bout of nasty weather across the north-west of the country

0:00:19 > 0:00:21at the moment, this is Storm Eva.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23It'll be sweeping to the north-west of us,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25so early in the morning on Christmas Eve,

0:00:25 > 0:00:28severe gales blowing through north-western Scotland.

0:00:28 > 0:00:29Gusts of 70mph.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32I think all of us will feel the effects of Storm Eva.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34To a lesser extent across the south,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36but it still will be nasty on the roads

0:00:36 > 0:00:38if you're travelling at this time in the morning.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Eight, nine o'clock, you can see a band of heavy rain,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42and the major motorways here -

0:00:42 > 0:00:44the M4, M40, M1 here,

0:00:44 > 0:00:46and within this band of heavy rain,

0:00:46 > 0:00:48we've also got some very strong winds as well.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51So nasty conditions on the roads with surface spray.

0:00:51 > 0:00:52But later on in the morning,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54the weather is improving a little bit across Yorkshire.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57But we'll still have one or two gusty showers

0:00:57 > 0:00:59even once that main rain band clears away.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01And here it is around about midday,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03two, three o'clock,

0:01:03 > 0:01:06eventually in the afternoon it clears out into the North Sea.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08And we're actually left over with some sunshine,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10but it will be quite a brisk day.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12And the gales - remnants of Eva still blowing

0:01:12 > 0:01:14across the far north of Scotland.

0:01:14 > 0:01:1613 in London the top temperature on Christmas Eve.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19More like six or seven across Scotland

0:01:19 > 0:01:21and Northern Ireland.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22Christmas Day itself -

0:01:22 > 0:01:24here's Eva across Scandinavia.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26In the wake of Eva,

0:01:26 > 0:01:27we have another area of low pressure

0:01:27 > 0:01:30heading our way, and this area of low pressure

0:01:30 > 0:01:32will be responsible for bringing further rain,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34not just to southern and central areas

0:01:34 > 0:01:37but also places like Cumbria right into Boxing Day.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39So Christmas Day itself - mild and wet

0:01:39 > 0:01:40across the south, 13 degrees.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43But it could be frosty, even quite Christmassy

0:01:43 > 0:01:46for a time in Scotland before the temperatures rise here too,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48although around four or five, I think,

0:01:48 > 0:01:50the top temperature for the north of Scotland.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53Here's a look at Boxing Day, and the Met office has issued

0:01:53 > 0:01:55an amber warning because of the heavy rain

0:01:55 > 0:01:57which may impact Cumbria.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00There's still some uncertainty exactly where this heavy rain

0:02:00 > 0:02:03could go. Maybe a little bit further north, a little bit further south.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05But we are starting to see indications that it will,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07in fact, go across parts of Cumbria.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09We could see 60-80 millimetres of rain,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11and that could prove disruptive,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13further flooding is certainly possible.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15So if you're travelling, not just across Cumbria

0:02:15 > 0:02:18but throughout the country, stay tuned to the updates on TV

0:02:18 > 0:02:21and also your local radio, because the weather will be changing

0:02:21 > 0:02:23quite dramatically from one day to another.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Here's a look at Sunday, and there are some changes.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28It's actually going to turn warmer.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31This huge area of low pressure across the Atlantic

0:02:31 > 0:02:34keeps scooping up mild air from the south,

0:02:34 > 0:02:36the story of the winter, and look at that.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38That mild air stretches right across Europe,

0:02:38 > 0:02:41so many of the major centres throughout the weekend

0:02:41 > 0:02:43will have mild weather.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46In fact, it'll be just as warm in London

0:02:46 > 0:02:49as it'll be in Rome, around 13 degrees Celsius.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Even in Moscow, temperatures will be just a fraction above freezing,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54which is above the average for the time of year.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56Now, watch what happens next week.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58So this is the run-up to the New Year.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00Another storm brews across the Atlantic here

0:03:00 > 0:03:02as this cold air from the north Atlantic

0:03:02 > 0:03:04clashes with this exceptionally mild air

0:03:04 > 0:03:06coming out of the Azores here.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09That means, basically, more heavy rain

0:03:09 > 0:03:10and strong winds close to the UK.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Still unsure exactly where this low's going to be,

0:03:13 > 0:03:14but you can see one way or another,

0:03:14 > 0:03:17we are going to get strong winds and some heavy rain too.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19So I think, in summary,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21this is what it's going to look like.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24Certainly coastal areas getting a battering from the strong winds.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Inland areas will be getting windy weather too

0:03:26 > 0:03:28with some heavy rain,

0:03:28 > 0:03:30so just keep track of the weather updates.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35Relax this Christmas as BBC Two brings you

0:03:35 > 0:03:37some inspiring cultural treats.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39Leaps, lunges, plies -

0:03:39 > 0:03:42let Darcey introduce us to her ballet heroes.

0:03:42 > 0:03:44Misunderstood, complicated -

0:03:44 > 0:03:47male ballet dancers don't conform.

0:03:47 > 0:03:50Then we have more ballet, this time with love, espionage and betrayal
