0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. Let's see what the weather is up to over the next few days
0:00:06 > 0:00:08and, as promised, a very mild Christmas.
0:00:08 > 0:00:11In fact, the Met Office is saying December is likely to be
0:00:11 > 0:00:14the warmest December since records began.
0:00:14 > 0:00:18Hardly surprisingly when we have had temperatures of around 14, 15,
0:00:18 > 0:00:2016 and even higher over the last few weeks.
0:00:20 > 0:00:23This is Storm Eva, sweeping the north-west of the British Isles
0:00:23 > 0:00:25and the last 24 hours or so.
0:00:25 > 0:00:27In between weather systems in this gap
0:00:27 > 0:00:30and then this area of low pressure cloud approaching
0:00:30 > 0:00:34the south-west of the UK on Christmas Day so more rain, a bit of a breeze
0:00:34 > 0:00:37and certainly mild weather reaching the south-west of the country.
0:00:37 > 0:00:3910am, raining across parts
0:00:39 > 0:00:43of the South West, Central, Southern England, Southern Wales too.
0:00:43 > 0:00:44But, for many of us,
0:00:44 > 0:00:47Christmas Day is actually going to start off quite bright.
0:00:47 > 0:00:49Quite pleasant actually if you are going out for a walk at this time.
0:00:49 > 0:00:52Some sunshine in the East Midlands, across Yorkshire.
0:00:52 > 0:00:54Northern Ireland, a chilly, crisp start.
0:00:54 > 0:00:57Feeling quite Christmassy actually. And the same goes for Scotland.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59There might even be some wintry showers
0:00:59 > 0:01:03so for a few it will be a white Christmas but only in the Highlands.
0:01:03 > 0:01:05Then through the day on Christmas Day,
0:01:05 > 0:01:07this weather front moves ever northwards.
0:01:07 > 0:01:09It crosses the Midlands in the middle of the afternoon.
0:01:09 > 0:01:11Behind it we have got milder weather.
0:01:11 > 0:01:15In fact, temperatures will be in the mid-teens in the evening
0:01:15 > 0:01:17on Christmas Day. Much colder in Scotland.
0:01:17 > 0:01:20Or like 4 or 5 degrees for Aberdeenshire
0:01:20 > 0:01:23and into the Western Isles. That's Christmas Day.
0:01:23 > 0:01:28Into Boxing Day, unfortunately, this weather front could cause trouble.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30It looks as if it is making a beeline,
0:01:30 > 0:01:33at this stage we are thinking for Cumbria.
0:01:33 > 0:01:37It has prompted the Met Office to issue an amber warning for Cumbria
0:01:37 > 0:01:41because the rain will be very heavy and the impact could be significant.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44We could see more flooding across this part of the country but it may
0:01:44 > 0:01:48just take a nudge of this weather front a bit further south or north
0:01:48 > 0:01:53to reduce or increase the amount of rainfall we will get across Cumbria.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56But the large swathe of the UK will actually be dry on Boxing Day.
0:01:56 > 0:02:00Dry and mild across the south, 14 or 15 degrees.
0:02:00 > 0:02:01Then that wet weather in the north-west
0:02:01 > 0:02:04and southern parts of Scotland.
0:02:04 > 0:02:07And the north of Scotland colder, around six, seven, eight degrees.
0:02:07 > 0:02:11On Sunday, a huge area of low pressure dominating the Atlantic.
0:02:11 > 0:02:15It is scooping up all that mild air that is sitting in
0:02:15 > 0:02:19the southern climes across the Azores and shunting it into our direction.
0:02:19 > 0:02:22That means on Sunday it will be a mild one.
0:02:22 > 0:02:24Winds south or even south-easterly.
0:02:24 > 0:02:27That means the mild air in the south will be pushed northwards.
0:02:27 > 0:02:31It could be around 13, 14, 15 degrees in some areas.
0:02:31 > 0:02:34On Monday, low pressure dominates the Atlantic
0:02:34 > 0:02:37and what we are keeping an eye on is these baby lows
0:02:37 > 0:02:42developing to the south and pushed by a powerful jet stream.
0:02:42 > 0:02:46These will be developing, spinning up quickly and heading in our direction.
0:02:46 > 0:02:49The first set of weather fronts arrives on Monday.
0:02:49 > 0:02:53There will be some rain. Not too bad, maybe even a bit of sunshine.
0:02:53 > 0:02:56Temperatures will be around 13 degrees in the south,
0:02:56 > 0:02:58double figures even in Scotland.
0:02:58 > 0:03:02Monday night into Tuesday, the jet stream becomes more powerful,
0:03:02 > 0:03:06it swings in our direction and develops this area of low pressure.
0:03:06 > 0:03:09It is still too early to say how nasty this low will be
0:03:09 > 0:03:11but, if we look at the pressure pattern,
0:03:11 > 0:03:14you can see an awful lot of isobars here.
0:03:14 > 0:03:15That means very strong winds,
0:03:15 > 0:03:18severe gales blowing across a number of areas.
0:03:18 > 0:03:23For the lead up into the New Year, it is looking stormy.
0:03:23 > 0:03:26Stay in touch with the latest weather updates
0:03:26 > 0:03:28if you are travelling across the country.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30That's it. Have a very Merry Christmas.
0:03:33 > 0:03:34KNOCKING
0:03:34 > 0:03:36Can I help you? Yes, are you the surgeon?
0:03:36 > 0:03:39Close enough. Why? There's a medical emergency.
0:03:39 > 0:03:42Do I know you? You most certainly do not.
0:03:44 > 0:03:46My husband is dying.
