0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. It does look a lot drier for the next couple of days over

0:00:05 > 0:00:07the flooded areas across northern England, but there is

0:00:07 > 0:00:11the potential for more stormy weather around the middle part of the week.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13But certainly the next couple of days are largely dry

0:00:13 > 0:00:17and staying on the mild side, and then, especially on Wednesday,

0:00:17 > 0:00:18increased risk of some strong winds

0:00:18 > 0:00:22but probably more importantly some persistent and heavy rain.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25Now, the storm responsible for that is developing on Monday off the

0:00:25 > 0:00:29western side of Canada, and it will be intensifying as it approaches.

0:00:29 > 0:00:30But it's got a long way to travel,

0:00:30 > 0:00:34hence why there'll always be some uncertainty for the next day or so.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37For Monday, though, most places dry and fine,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39the winds coming up from the south bringing mild air.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41A weakening weather front will bring some patchy

0:00:41 > 0:00:44rain across western fringes of Wales, south-west England,

0:00:44 > 0:00:46and we'll see that rain pepping up a little

0:00:46 > 0:00:48across the west of Northern Ireland late in the day.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Some showery rain in the west of Scotland,

0:00:50 > 0:00:53but for most it's a dry, fine, bright day.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56Quite breezy, blustery conditions, especially along the Moray Firth.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59Temperatures, though, with southerly winds, well above the average.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03That weak weather front continues to move across the UK on Monday night.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06It does fizzle out a little bit, but there's that area of low pressure.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08It's changing all the while,

0:01:08 > 0:01:11becoming more of a storm as it approaches.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14It's still not with us on Tuesday, just showery rain across Scotland.

0:01:14 > 0:01:18Again, it looks largely dry across the flooded areas of northern

0:01:18 > 0:01:20England, largely dry, too, in North Wales.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22A scattering of showers across southern areas through the day,

0:01:22 > 0:01:25but for many Tuesday's dry, bright with some sunshine.

0:01:25 > 0:01:29Perhaps not quite as warm, but still these temperatures are above average.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32It's been an incredibly mild December.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36And then this storm system continues to get closer to the UK.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38The low itself is tracking to the north.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Look at the number of isobars, though.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44It is going to get very blustery indeed, gusts of 70mph are possible,

0:01:44 > 0:01:47but the main cause for concern is this wiggling weather front.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Now, it's a few days away,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52there's always uncertainty about the exact position of that front,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54but there is the real threat of it becoming

0:01:54 > 0:01:57slow-moving and dropping a lot of rain in a short space of time.

0:01:57 > 0:02:01We have an amber "be prepared" weather warning for parts of southern

0:02:01 > 0:02:05and south-west Scotland, but you can see heavy rain also in the areas,

0:02:05 > 0:02:09potentially across northern England, North Wales, Northern Ireland,

0:02:09 > 0:02:13so those areas continue to be at risk from flooding, too.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15That weather front does finally get

0:02:15 > 0:02:17a bit of a move on during Wednesday night.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21And it is a cold front, so behind it we will see colder

0:02:21 > 0:02:23air for Thursday, which is New Year's Eve.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Weather fronts will bring a few showers, but you will, I think,

0:02:26 > 0:02:29notice that fresher feel, particularly in the evening

0:02:29 > 0:02:30if you're heading out,

0:02:30 > 0:02:33as temperatures could drop off quite sharply.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36Thursday night is a bit of a mess, with lots of weather fronts around,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38plenty of isobars,

0:02:38 > 0:02:40and there's another weather system developing out west on Friday.

0:02:40 > 0:02:44But between those two, there's a bit of a bump in the isobars,

0:02:44 > 0:02:49a brief ridge, and so for many of us New Year's Day looks OK, dry and

0:02:49 > 0:02:53fine, a good day to get out and walk off any excesses of the night before.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56Some rain coming into the west later on, but temperatures actually,

0:02:56 > 0:03:00well, it might actually feel like January, five to six degrees Celsius.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02That low throws rain across the country on Saturday,

0:03:02 > 0:03:03then another brief ridge.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06It looks drier on Sunday, but there are more lows waiting in the

0:03:06 > 0:03:11wings, so the outlook for the first part of 2016, it stays changeable.

0:03:11 > 0:03:15There will be spells of rain but bright or sunny spells, too.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18Overall, it stays on the mild side, but note the "probably".

0:03:18 > 0:03:21There are still a few computer models that suggest we might start

0:03:21 > 0:03:26to see something a little colder through those first few days of 2016.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29All the weather warnings and flood warnings are online.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35Vera Claythorne,

0:03:35 > 0:03:38Thomas and Ethel Rogers,

0:03:38 > 0:03:40Anthony Marston,

0:03:40 > 0:03:42Lawrence Wargrave,

0:03:42 > 0:03:44John MacArthur,

0:03:44 > 0:03:46Emily Brent,

0:03:46 > 0:03:47Edward Armstrong,

0:03:47 > 0:03:49Philip Lombard,
