:00:00. > :00:14.Hello. Before we look ahead to the next ten days, let's look back at a

:00:15. > :00:19.record-breaking December. Rainfall figures for southern Scotland, we

:00:20. > :00:27.had over 500 millimetres of rain. These figures were before the rain

:00:28. > :00:32.of the last 24 hours. Cumbria had almost 800 millimetres. More than

:00:33. > :00:41.that of a Wales, over a metre of Wales in December. -- metre of

:00:42. > :00:46.rain. This cloud has brought the latest rain, of the Atlantic. Some

:00:47. > :00:52.early showers on New Year 's morning. Sunny skies for England and

:00:53. > :00:56.Wales, downpours rushing into Northern Ireland. Heading east

:00:57. > :01:02.through the day. Southeast during daylight hours, dry and quite funny.

:01:03. > :01:06.Elsewhere, cold and possibly some snow and rain over the northern

:01:07. > :01:11.hills. Most downpours clearing during the evening. We are waiting

:01:12. > :01:15.for this area of low pressure to arrive from the south-west. For the

:01:16. > :01:20.midnight hour, it will be mostly dry. Risk of continuing overnight. I

:01:21. > :01:28.New Year 's morning, looking at widespread frost in the countryside.

:01:29. > :01:32.It will be a bright start with some sunshine on New Year's Day, clouding

:01:33. > :01:36.over from the south-west as rain pushes in two southern England and

:01:37. > :01:39.Wales, and eventually Northern Ireland. Further north and east,

:01:40. > :01:44.staying dry and bright. There will be a wind picking up which will make

:01:45. > :01:48.it feel a bit chilly, especially after the early frost. We have low

:01:49. > :01:53.pressure heading our way for the start of the week. This will move

:01:54. > :01:59.slowly across the UK. Some strong winds, especially in the south-west

:02:00. > :02:04.of England and north-east Scotland. Looking at showers and rain to start

:02:05. > :02:09.the weekend, not as much as we have seen recently. The air is not quite

:02:10. > :02:12.as warm. We need to keep an eye on this next area of low pressure

:02:13. > :02:17.coming in, this one is a bit deeper with some strong gale force winds

:02:18. > :02:23.around it. We will see a spell of rain which could be quite heavy,

:02:24. > :02:26.although not lasting too long. Accompanied by strong winds. We may

:02:27. > :02:33.see some impacts during the second half of the weekend. That band of

:02:34. > :02:38.rain should not last too long, the north-east of Scotland will continue

:02:39. > :02:45.piling up of the beginning of the week. Low pressure sitting close by,

:02:46. > :02:49.tending to force low pressures to rise. Gradually becoming drier

:02:50. > :02:59.throughout the day. The rain not as heavy, still a lot of cloud around.

:03:00. > :03:03.Earlier this week, we had warm air in this position. Approaching the

:03:04. > :03:07.new year, we will find the jet stream further south. It will pick

:03:08. > :03:11.up areas of low pressure and probably steer them a bit further

:03:12. > :03:17.south. Changing the position for the new year, and we have this blocking

:03:18. > :03:22.area of high pressure from Scandinavia. What does it mean? That

:03:23. > :03:29.northern parts of the UK will likely feel colder, but it will be a bit

:03:30. > :03:30.drier. Most of the rain will drive a bit further south across the
