0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. As we say goodbye to 2015,

0:00:04 > 0:00:07our thoughts start to drift towards the weather for 2016.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09More on that in just a moment.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11But I just want to recap on December.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14Temperatures averaged out at around 8 degrees.

0:00:14 > 0:00:15It was a mild month.

0:00:15 > 0:00:19Way above the average where we should be at this time of year.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22It was also a wet one. No surprises to hear that.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25It was the wettest on record for Wales and for Scotland.

0:00:25 > 0:00:29In fact, it was the wettest calendar month in Scotland ever recorded.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31We also saw some very heavy, persistent rain

0:00:31 > 0:00:32across north-west England.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35But the rest of England and Wales, not too bad.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38Now, one of the reasons for this heavy, persistent rain

0:00:38 > 0:00:41and the mild weather is the kink that we had in the jet stream,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43driving up the wind direction from the south-west

0:00:43 > 0:00:47and that brought that warm, moist air that produced the rain.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49New Year's Eve wasn't too bad.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51We had a little bump of high pressure build

0:00:51 > 0:00:52and so just a few shower clouds.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55But New Year's Day, the clouds start to gather.

0:00:55 > 0:00:56And that's going to bring some wet weather

0:00:56 > 0:00:59and some windy weather into the south-west.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01It will give you a chilly start through New Year's Day.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Eventually, the clouds spilling in and the wind is quite a feature,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06particularly down into the south-west,

0:01:06 > 0:01:09as we see some cloud, wind and rain developing.

0:01:09 > 0:01:10So that means, with the cloud,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13temperatures in some areas at around 4 or 5 degrees.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15Bit of a shock to the system.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17But it will turn milder,

0:01:17 > 0:01:21but stay pretty unsettled through New Year's Day into Monday.

0:01:21 > 0:01:25And that's because that area of low pressure slowly drifts away,

0:01:25 > 0:01:28we see another pattern developing with a ridge of high,

0:01:28 > 0:01:29before the next low moves in.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31So on Saturday, it's going to be a case

0:01:31 > 0:01:32of sunny spells and scattered showers.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34It stays pretty blustery, as well.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37The showers not as intense or as persistent as they have been,

0:01:37 > 0:01:40perhaps with the exception of the far north-east of Scotland.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Top temperatures between 7 and 12 degrees.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46Now, as we move out of Saturday

0:01:46 > 0:01:48and that ridge of high pressure gets pushed out of the way

0:01:48 > 0:01:51by the next low, the isobars squeezing together,

0:01:51 > 0:01:53the winds remaining a feature

0:01:53 > 0:01:56and this will bring more significant cloud, wind and rain

0:01:56 > 0:01:59across the country from the west, just where we don't need it.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03So again, some persistent rain into the south-west across Wales

0:02:03 > 0:02:04and eventually that will merge

0:02:04 > 0:02:07with those persistent showers in the north-east of Scotland.

0:02:07 > 0:02:08So we'll need to keep a close eye

0:02:08 > 0:02:12on weather events taking place during Sunday.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14That area of low pressure, the bulk of the rain will ease away,

0:02:14 > 0:02:17but still influencing our weather on Monday.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20It just drifts its way down through the west coast,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23so there is the potential, wrapping itself around that low,

0:02:23 > 0:02:27for the winds to remain a feature and plenty of showers piling in, as well.

0:02:27 > 0:02:31Top temperatures on Monday of around 6 to 10 degrees.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33It's a similar pattern developing.

0:02:33 > 0:02:34The low will drift out of the way,

0:02:34 > 0:02:36allowing a ridge of high pressure to build.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39So we could end up with a rather chilly feel

0:02:39 > 0:02:42before the next low waits out into the wings.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45So, as we move into Tuesday, the winds a feature across the south

0:02:45 > 0:02:47and running in through the east coast.

0:02:47 > 0:02:48That'll have the heaviest of the rain.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51It will feel quite cool - 5 or 6 degrees.

0:02:51 > 0:02:52The best of the shelter,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55the best of the dry weather through Tuesday out to the west.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58As we move into the longer period, the six- to ten-day period,

0:02:58 > 0:03:01we have this low pressure down to the south-west,

0:03:01 > 0:03:04but the jet stream is starting to split, weaken a little.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07Why? Because of an area of high pressure blocking it

0:03:07 > 0:03:09out into Europe.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11And that means that, as the jet stream splits,

0:03:11 > 0:03:12it weakens a little.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14So the weather patterns may well change.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17There's the potential still for some rain around,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19but it looks likely that we're likely to see

0:03:19 > 0:03:20more significant rain across

0:03:20 > 0:03:22central and southern parts of England,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25where we've not had as much in recent days or weeks.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29Still feeling cool and often rather cloudy, as well.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35My findings at the inquest argued for suicide.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37Now I've missed a murder.

0:03:37 > 0:03:40You do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence
