0:00:03 > 0:00:07Hello there. Our new year brought with it a new feel to the weather -

0:00:07 > 0:00:09a cold, crisp, frosty start for many of us,

0:00:09 > 0:00:12even with a light dusting of snow in the Highlands as well.

0:00:12 > 0:00:16And, for a time, there was a good deal of dry weather in the forecast.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19Unfortunately, that is not set to last as we move into the weekend.

0:00:19 > 0:00:23Weather warnings have been issued for eastern Scotland,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25which means be prepared for further disruption

0:00:25 > 0:00:28due to the intensity of the rain.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31Further flooding is certainly not out of the question.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Let's take a look at what's going to happen.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35Two areas of low pressure for the weekend,

0:00:35 > 0:00:36one for Saturday,

0:00:36 > 0:00:38another starting to move in for Sunday.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40That's going to bring further spells

0:00:40 > 0:00:42of wet and pretty windy weather,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44particularly down to the south-west

0:00:44 > 0:00:45first thing on Saturday.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47Bands of rain continue to push

0:00:47 > 0:00:49steadily north through the day,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51circulating around that area of low pressure,

0:00:51 > 0:00:53so it's going to be a pretty wet,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55cool, unsettled afternoon

0:00:55 > 0:00:57for many and, at times, quite windy.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Highs likely of 8 to 12 degrees,

0:01:00 > 0:01:02with the rain pretty much grinding to a halt

0:01:02 > 0:01:04across the far north-east of Scotland.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Those showers or bands of rain continue

0:01:06 > 0:01:08through the night in the north-east

0:01:08 > 0:01:10and then the next area of low pressure

0:01:10 > 0:01:11moves in during Sunday morning.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13For a time there will be some

0:01:13 > 0:01:15heavy rain across the south-west

0:01:15 > 0:01:16and into Wales,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18but it is moving through and it will continue

0:01:18 > 0:01:20to push into the north-east of Scotland,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22where here we're expecting it

0:01:22 > 0:01:24to stagnate for quite some time

0:01:24 > 0:01:26through Sunday afternoon and overnight,

0:01:26 > 0:01:27hence the cause for concern

0:01:27 > 0:01:30for possibility of further flooding.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31Six to eight degrees for the north,

0:01:31 > 0:01:34ten to 11 further south.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36That area of low pressure really

0:01:36 > 0:01:38stays in the driving seat during

0:01:38 > 0:01:40the first half of Monday.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42It will slowly slip its way south

0:01:42 > 0:01:44and west, still the winds very much

0:01:44 > 0:01:46a feature, but eventually we will see

0:01:46 > 0:01:47an area of high pressure

0:01:47 > 0:01:48across eastern Europe,

0:01:48 > 0:01:50starting to influence the

0:01:50 > 0:01:51weather into the north,

0:01:51 > 0:01:53so things will turn a little bit colder

0:01:53 > 0:01:54for the start of next week,

0:01:54 > 0:01:56hopefully a little bit quieter as well.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58The first signs of that during Monday.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00We will have some showers first thing

0:02:00 > 0:02:01in the far north-east,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03but they will steadily ease through the day.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05Temperatures sitting at around six degrees here.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08Further showers closer to that low pressure

0:02:08 > 0:02:10the further south and west you are.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12The low slowly drifting its way

0:02:12 > 0:02:14across the south-west of England

0:02:14 > 0:02:17during Monday night into Tuesday,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19allowing that colder air to start to

0:02:19 > 0:02:21sink its way in from Scandinavia.

0:02:21 > 0:02:22And an eastly breeze as well,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24so an exposed North Sea coast.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26It will feel notably different out there,

0:02:26 > 0:02:27but a drier story across Scotland,

0:02:27 > 0:02:28Northern Ireland

0:02:28 > 0:02:31and eventually northern England on Tuesday -

0:02:31 > 0:02:33further showers remaining down to the south.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35It's during Tuesday night into Wednesday,

0:02:35 > 0:02:37when the low pushes off into the near continent,

0:02:37 > 0:02:40and we see a quieter theme of weather for a time

0:02:40 > 0:02:42before more fronts wait out in the wings.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44On Wednesday, there is a potential

0:02:44 > 0:02:46for some dry, sunnier spells of weather,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48something a little more optimistic,

0:02:48 > 0:02:51but noticeably for most of us -

0:02:51 > 0:02:52three to eight or nine

0:02:52 > 0:02:54degrees is the maximum.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56It looks as though the jet stream

0:02:56 > 0:02:58through the longer six-to-ten-day period

0:02:58 > 0:03:00continues to split into two, so weakening

0:03:00 > 0:03:03because of that area of high pressure

0:03:03 > 0:03:04that's in eastern Europe,

0:03:04 > 0:03:05the blocking high,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07preventing the jet stream from having

0:03:07 > 0:03:08a significant impact.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10That means that the low pressures

0:03:10 > 0:03:12will tend to sit down to the south and west,

0:03:12 > 0:03:13where we're likely to see perhaps

0:03:13 > 0:03:15more potential for rain here,

0:03:15 > 0:03:17but it continues to stay

0:03:17 > 0:03:19cold to the north, so that means

0:03:19 > 0:03:20that any showers that we get

0:03:20 > 0:03:21could fall as snow

0:03:21 > 0:03:23to the far north of Scotland.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25Winds will return later on in the week,

0:03:25 > 0:03:26so still plenty to play for,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28but keep watching the weather forecast

0:03:28 > 0:03:30as we move through the weekend.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35My findings at the inquest argued for suicide.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37Now I've missed a murder.

0:03:37 > 0:03:41You do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence

0:03:41 > 0:03:43if you fail to mention when questioned

0:03:43 > 0:03:45something you later rely on in court.
