0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. After a record-breaking December,

0:00:06 > 0:00:08January should go a little more to form.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11Still looks very unsettled, mind you, and there'll be some rain,

0:00:11 > 0:00:13but maybe the heaviest rain in different areas

0:00:13 > 0:00:15to what we've seen just recently.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17We've got this amber rain warning from the Met Office

0:00:17 > 0:00:19for eastern areas of Scotland.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22Over the space of a couple of days there could be 100mm,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24maybe double that over the hills.

0:00:24 > 0:00:28It's the steadiness of the rain that could cause some issues.

0:00:28 > 0:00:32All driven on by this south-easterly wind, which, by the end of Sunday,

0:00:32 > 0:00:35could be bringing some very big waves to the east coast.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37We've got those south-easterly winds

0:00:37 > 0:00:40ahead of the next area of low pressure - a big one, this -

0:00:40 > 0:00:42coming in from the Atlantic.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44That's going to bring some stronger winds,

0:00:44 > 0:00:46it's going to bring some rain as well.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48That rain already across Wales, much of southern England

0:00:48 > 0:00:50by nine in the morning, heading northwards,

0:00:50 > 0:00:53further into Northern Ireland, up into northern England too.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56Behind it, there'll be some sunny intervals and some heavy showers

0:00:56 > 0:00:59in the afternoon across Wales and the South-west of England,

0:00:59 > 0:01:00where we'll have the highest temperatures.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Notice the rain continues in eastern Scotland,

0:01:03 > 0:01:07very much colder here, especially in those strong to gale-force winds.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09There's our big area of low pressure.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12It's certainly moving slowly towards the UK,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14driving that weather front northwards -

0:01:14 > 0:01:17it just keeps the rain going in eastern Scotland on Monday.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20Some snow over the mountains as well.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23A cold wind blowing here. Elsewhere, though, we're going to find

0:01:23 > 0:01:26something a little bit brighter, but there will be a lot of showers,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28particularly in Wales and southern England.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31These may be heavy and possibly thundery.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34Chilly day across Scotland and maybe the North-east of England -

0:01:34 > 0:01:38we've got to watch the rain adding up here, particularly over the Cheviots.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41That low pressure then starts to sink a little bit further south

0:01:41 > 0:01:43over the UK as we head into Tuesday.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47To the north of that low pressure, we've got some colder air

0:01:47 > 0:01:50that could potentially come into the far north of Scotland

0:01:50 > 0:01:52and bring quite a few snow showers here,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54particularly for the Northern Isles.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Elsewhere we've got these showery bursts of rain.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58It is looking more showery,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00the rain tending to become lighter, more patchy.

0:02:00 > 0:02:04Should eventually be a bit drier in eastern Scotland as well.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07But a cold feel across the northern half of the UK.

0:02:07 > 0:02:08That low pressure then pulls away,

0:02:08 > 0:02:12we're waiting for more weather fronts to come in from the Atlantic.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14But as we head into Wednesday morning,

0:02:14 > 0:02:17this could be the coldest morning first thing.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20We've got the risk of frost, particularly for

0:02:20 > 0:02:23the north of England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26But Wednesday should be the driest day of the next few.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29It'll feel quite chilly, particularly as the cloud increases,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32and there is some rain to come in from the Atlantic.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36Some uncertainty, though, as to how quickly this rain is going to arrive.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39That rain then pushes across all areas overnight,

0:02:39 > 0:02:41preceded by some snow over the Scottish hills.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44All part of a bigger area of low pressure

0:02:44 > 0:02:46sitting to the west of the UK by Thursday.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48The northern half of the UK,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50we're going be into more of a showery regime.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52Those showers could be wintry over the hills.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54To the south, we've got to clear this rain away,

0:02:54 > 0:02:57and it could take all day to clear the South-east of England.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59As we head toward the end of the week,

0:02:59 > 0:03:01this is where the jet stream lies -

0:03:01 > 0:03:02a bit further south over the UK.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05That's going to pick up areas of low pressure,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08steer them slowly across the UK later in next week

0:03:08 > 0:03:12and into the weekend, maintaining very unsettled theme.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14High pressure over Scandinavia - it's not heading our way,

0:03:14 > 0:03:18but it blocks off the passage of those areas of low pressure

0:03:18 > 0:03:20and keeps us very unsettled

0:03:20 > 0:03:23right the way into next week and beyond.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26Further rain at times, some pretty strong winds with the rain.

0:03:26 > 0:03:27There'll be some showers around too.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30Temperatures may briefly dip, but otherwise, they're near normal.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37DERMOT O'LEARY: This is possibly

0:03:37 > 0:03:39the most important moment in your entire lives.
