0:00:02 > 0:00:06Hello. Last night, John talked to you about the potential for

0:00:06 > 0:00:09some drier weather into next week. That potential is still with us.

0:00:09 > 0:00:13But, for the here and now, once again the rain today has left severe

0:00:13 > 0:00:17flood warnings out across parts of eastern Scotland.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20That means a danger to life.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23This is the floodline number.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25There are numerous flood warnings in force

0:00:25 > 0:00:27as well as the severe flood warnings.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30And still the amber warnings for further rain to come overnight

0:00:30 > 0:00:33and through Friday from the Met Office.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35As well as that, it is likely to turn to snow over the hills 200-300m

0:00:35 > 0:00:38and it will turn pretty icy with temperatures close to freezing.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41We could also have a smattering of snow

0:00:41 > 0:00:45for the hills of Northern Ireland, northern England, southern Scotland

0:00:45 > 0:00:47and that's a little too close for comfort

0:00:47 > 0:00:49to the central lowlands for the Friday morning rush.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52So it could be an awkward mix of rain and sleet and snow.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Quite slippery conditions, potentially, a real taste of winter.

0:00:55 > 0:00:59Yet, still the rain falls across the east and north of Scotland.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02Further south across England and Wales, more likely that we'll

0:01:02 > 0:01:05have some hail showers, some heavy showers around with blustery winds.

0:01:05 > 0:01:09Not as windy as it was during the day on Thursday, and those showers

0:01:09 > 0:01:12should move through allowing some sunshine in between.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15Eventually, we should see things drying up

0:01:15 > 0:01:18a little for Aberdeenshire, Angus, Tayside as well, as that rain

0:01:18 > 0:01:22becomes stuck across Caithness, Sutherland and into Orkney as well.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23Still that cold strong wind,

0:01:23 > 0:01:27still the potential for snow even at lower levels in western areas here.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29And it's a cold day, only 2 for Glasgow.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32We talked about snow, it's no surprise,

0:01:32 > 0:01:33perhaps double figures in the south.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Then, as we move into the weekend,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37the devil's in the detail, as John mentioned last night.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40This low pressure meanders in across the UK.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42It's where it comes to settle is

0:01:42 > 0:01:44where we'll see longer spells of rain.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48But with low pressure across us, all of us will see yet more rain

0:01:48 > 0:01:52over the weekend and that does pose the risk of further flooding,

0:01:52 > 0:01:56particularly for those areas seeing some sizeable amounts of rainfall.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59The ground is so saturated at the moment, it doesn't take much.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02So you saw all those winds dragging that rain north through Saturday.

0:02:02 > 0:02:03Into Sunday, it's still with us.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06The potential for some snow over the hills. It's still pretty cold air.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08The winds around the periphery of that area of low pressure

0:02:08 > 0:02:11will be strong to gale force as well.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14Still around in the north on Sunday night into Monday

0:02:14 > 0:02:17and then we turn our attention to the potential for this

0:02:17 > 0:02:21low pressure to skip close by to southern areas on Monday.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24Some question mark as to how far north that is going to come

0:02:24 > 0:02:27and obviously that has implications for our wind and rain.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30But, thereafter, there's still the hint that the jetstream will

0:02:30 > 0:02:33move further southwards so that will drag the areas of low pressure,

0:02:33 > 0:02:38the rainmakers, further south, we think, across many parts of France

0:02:38 > 0:02:43towards Italy across the Alps and perhaps Iberia as well.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46However, as that happens, we get into the true cold air as well.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49So, a hint of cold weather anyway for the next three or four days,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51with an ongoing risk of frost and ice.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53But we could see even colder weather next week,

0:02:53 > 0:02:56which will keep those weather fronts at bay as well.

0:02:56 > 0:02:57A blast of Arctic air,

0:02:57 > 0:03:00what it should feel like, really, through the middle of the winter.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03We've got a blocking high-pressure system up towards the north

0:03:03 > 0:03:07and east and that will push those low pressures away from our shores.

0:03:07 > 0:03:11However, there is a question mark for later next week,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13just a question mark at this stage,

0:03:13 > 0:03:15that there could be some windier weather

0:03:15 > 0:03:18and therefore wetter weather coming back in.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20But at the moment, it is looking notably colder

0:03:20 > 0:03:23with a risk of frost, ice, wintry showers around

0:03:23 > 0:03:26and for a time, at least, drier than it has been recently.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28But, again, it's a case of watch this space.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30All the warnings are on the website.
