0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. Time to take a look further ahead with the forecast

0:00:06 > 0:00:09which has been dominated again this week by the wet weather,

0:00:09 > 0:00:10the severe flooding, as a result of

0:00:10 > 0:00:14some record-breaking rain again in Aberdeenshire.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16But actually, through the day on Friday,

0:00:16 > 0:00:17we turned our attention to snow

0:00:17 > 0:00:20and this was the scene from one of our weather watchers

0:00:20 > 0:00:22in the Scottish Borders through the afternoon.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24And now the cold air is stuck with us

0:00:24 > 0:00:26across the northern half of the country,

0:00:26 > 0:00:28subsequent bands of showers

0:00:28 > 0:00:30heading northwards will turn readily to snow,

0:00:30 > 0:00:33especially over the hills but not exclusively.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35And it's going to be quite icy as well.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38So, as we start Saturday, a widespread

0:00:38 > 0:00:40and fairly penetrating frost

0:00:40 > 0:00:42across some parts of the glens of Scotland,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44with freezing fog potentially here as well

0:00:44 > 0:00:47and Northern Ireland and northern England.

0:00:47 > 0:00:48Quite treacherous underfoot

0:00:48 > 0:00:50and on untreated roads.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52There's a lot of water lying around.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Not as cold as Friday morning further south,

0:00:54 > 0:00:57but nevertheless some lively winds and heavy showers,

0:00:57 > 0:01:00so if you are driving and caught in those showers,

0:01:00 > 0:01:03there'll be a lot of spray and standing water.

0:01:03 > 0:01:04As we move through the day,

0:01:04 > 0:01:07bands of showers will head northwards and eastwards.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09So you see how cold it will feel

0:01:09 > 0:01:10with that bracing easterly wind

0:01:10 > 0:01:12across northern Scotland.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14Stronger winds than on Friday elsewhere

0:01:14 > 0:01:16and once those showers come into the cold air

0:01:16 > 0:01:18they'll be some snow.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20So concern again for slow-moving showers

0:01:20 > 0:01:22close to the north and east of Scotland,

0:01:22 > 0:01:25perhaps into northern England and Northern Ireland.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27And lots of heavy showers for parts of Wales

0:01:27 > 0:01:29where there's lots of

0:01:29 > 0:01:31standing water at the moment.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33The culprit responsible for all these showers,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35this area of low pressure,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37which is why there'll be showers meandering around.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40But look at the tightly packed isobars on Sunday.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42Potential for some storm force winds

0:01:42 > 0:01:45across the north and north-west of Scotland.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47And rain and indeed snow even at low levels

0:01:47 > 0:01:49eventually arrives in Shetland as well

0:01:49 > 0:01:50after a dryish day here

0:01:50 > 0:01:53through the latter part of the week into Saturday.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Perhaps fewer showers elsewhere,

0:01:55 > 0:01:56but it will be windy.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Come Monday, notice the change.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00It's more of a northerly wind

0:02:00 > 0:02:01pulling in the showers.

0:02:01 > 0:02:02Once again plenty of showers

0:02:02 > 0:02:04close to the north-east of Scotland.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07So even though we're seeing showers mostly of snow

0:02:07 > 0:02:09and wintry weather, there's still

0:02:09 > 0:02:11some more precipitation around.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13This northerly wind is originating

0:02:13 > 0:02:16right from the Arctic and this is the change

0:02:16 > 0:02:18we've been talking about all this week.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20The change to something more akin to winter.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22We still keep our low pressure,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24so we'll still have

0:02:24 > 0:02:26a showery airstream across the UK.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28But on the whole, with the winds

0:02:28 > 0:02:29coming down from the north,

0:02:29 > 0:02:30we're cutting off

0:02:30 > 0:02:32all this really warm moist air.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Remember, the warmer the air is,

0:02:34 > 0:02:35the more moisture it can hold

0:02:35 > 0:02:37so the more rain we'll see.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39This time we're getting this Arctic blast

0:02:39 > 0:02:42through much of the coming week.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44So after the weekend, though it will feel cold

0:02:44 > 0:02:46over the weekend. Come midweek, we've got

0:02:46 > 0:02:47that strong northerly wind

0:02:47 > 0:02:49blowing those showers around,

0:02:49 > 0:02:50but blowing them through

0:02:50 > 0:02:53because the low pressure is still there.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55That keeps things a little unsettled,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57but not as persistently wet as it has been.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00There's a hint that by the end of the week

0:03:00 > 0:03:02we could switch back and bring milder air

0:03:02 > 0:03:03back in from the Atlantic,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05and with it low pressure,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08but it is just a small risk at this stage.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10For most of the coming week,

0:03:10 > 0:03:11although we've got a nasty area

0:03:11 > 0:03:14of low pressure slipping towards the south on Monday,

0:03:14 > 0:03:16potentially bringing more gales and rain,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19the week ahead looks notably colder,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21more akin to winter, with that frost and ice,

0:03:21 > 0:03:22wintry showers,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24but it should for most of us

0:03:24 > 0:03:25be dryer than recently.

0:03:25 > 0:03:26But there are a few flies

0:03:26 > 0:03:28to watch for in the ointment,

0:03:28 > 0:03:30so stay in tune with the forecast.

0:03:30 > 0:03:31The website has more.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36You'd better come in with a brilliant product.
