0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. We are now nearly midway through winter
0:00:05 > 0:00:08and after the very springlike start to the year, things are suddenly
0:00:08 > 0:00:11feeling more wintry as we move through the week ahead.
0:00:11 > 0:00:14So, getting colder for most of us through the course of the week.
0:00:14 > 0:00:16There will be some showers falling as snow at times,
0:00:16 > 0:00:17mainly on the hills,
0:00:17 > 0:00:20but also some frost and some icy stretches overnight.
0:00:20 > 0:00:22So Tuesday we could start with some icy patches
0:00:22 > 0:00:24on untreated roads and surfaces.
0:00:24 > 0:00:27Low pressure still the driving force of the weather through
0:00:27 > 0:00:28the course of Tuesday.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30But it is going to be a chilly start to the day.
0:00:30 > 0:00:34So if you're heading out and about first thing, do watch out
0:00:34 > 0:00:37for some slippery surfaces on untreated roads and pavements.
0:00:37 > 0:00:40After that chilly start to the day, it will be another day of
0:00:40 > 0:00:43blustery heavy showers, quite strong winds at times too.
0:00:43 > 0:00:45The showers falling as snow on top of the hills of Scotland
0:00:45 > 0:00:47even down to lower levels
0:00:47 > 0:00:50for eastern Scotland for a time and we could see some sleet and snow.
0:00:50 > 0:00:53Northern Ireland, after a very wet and windy morning, will clear up
0:00:53 > 0:00:56by the afternoon with a return to some sunshine.
0:00:56 > 0:00:59But heavy showers rolling in across parts of Wales into the Midlands
0:00:59 > 0:01:02falling as snow on top of the higher ground.
0:01:02 > 0:01:05Down towards southern and south-western parts of England
0:01:05 > 0:01:07some drier weather through Tuesday afternoon with some sunshine.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10Still showers lingering for eastern areas.
0:01:10 > 0:01:12They'll be heavy at times through the course of Tuesday.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15But with low pressure easing away towards the east as we roll
0:01:15 > 0:01:18through into Wednesday morning, clearing skies means a drier
0:01:18 > 0:01:21and quite a colder start to Wednesday as well.
0:01:21 > 0:01:23Particular, in the countryside, first thing Wednesday,
0:01:23 > 0:01:27we could see temperatures as low as -9 for sheltered glens in Scotland.
0:01:27 > 0:01:28So a cold start with some frost
0:01:28 > 0:01:30and again a risk of some iciness first thing.
0:01:30 > 0:01:33Through the course of Wednesday, the best of the dry
0:01:33 > 0:01:35and sunny weather will be for eastern areas.
0:01:35 > 0:01:38Further west, we will start to see more cloud rolling in
0:01:38 > 0:01:40bringing some showers and some hill snow once again.
0:01:40 > 0:01:42As we move through the latter part of Wednesday,
0:01:42 > 0:01:45then overnight into Thursday, low pressure still dominating
0:01:45 > 0:01:48moving its way gradually eastwards across northern areas.
0:01:48 > 0:01:51Some further showers and hill snow rolling their way eastwards.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53But as we look through the middle part of the week,
0:01:53 > 0:01:56the mild air has now disappeared down towards the south.
0:01:56 > 0:01:57You can see the blue arrows here,
0:01:57 > 0:02:01colder air coming in from a more north to north-westerly direction.
0:02:01 > 0:02:02Through the day on Thursday,
0:02:02 > 0:02:05that colder air filtering in from the west.
0:02:05 > 0:02:07Still some showers mainly for eastern areas tending to ease away,
0:02:07 > 0:02:11but those temperatures certainly down a notch on recent days,
0:02:11 > 0:02:13between around 3 to 7 Celsius,
0:02:13 > 0:02:16perhaps a little bit below average for this time of year.
0:02:16 > 0:02:18Then rolling through into the latter part of the week, high pressure
0:02:18 > 0:02:22in the Atlantic just starting to edge in towards our shores,
0:02:22 > 0:02:26so that will start to ease away the showers through the day on Friday.
0:02:26 > 0:02:29A drier story, some sunshine after a cold and frosty start.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31Round about 3 to 7 or 8 Celsius.
0:02:31 > 0:02:34Still that chance of some showers for eastern areas.
0:02:34 > 0:02:36But heading through into the weekend,
0:02:36 > 0:02:39it looks like high pressure in the Atlantic moves in across the UK.
0:02:39 > 0:02:41We've still got a northerly airflow,
0:02:41 > 0:02:44the isobars heading back towards the Arctic there.
0:02:44 > 0:02:48So still a chilly story as we look towards the weekend, but for many,
0:02:48 > 0:02:51we should have a largely dry and fairly bright weekend to come.
0:02:51 > 0:02:54With some sunshine, although things will be feeling cold and frosty.
0:02:54 > 0:02:57Beyond the weekend, on into next week, what we're going
0:02:57 > 0:03:00to start to see is still a northerly airflow, so some chilly conditions.
0:03:00 > 0:03:02There could well be some snow, mainly on the hills
0:03:02 > 0:03:04but even for a time down to lower levels
0:03:04 > 0:03:06for north-eastern parts of the country, in particular.
0:03:06 > 0:03:08Further south and west, that is where we are likely to see some frosty
0:03:08 > 0:03:10but bright weather.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12The best of the shelter to be found further south and west.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14So through the course of next week,
0:03:14 > 0:03:17it will be a cold start to the week once again.
0:03:17 > 0:03:19Often, though, looking dry and bright.
0:03:19 > 0:03:22Wintry showers mainly in the north and east
0:03:22 > 0:03:24and things could turn milder once again
0:03:24 > 0:03:26as we look towards the end of next week.
0:03:26 > 0:03:29Lots happening in the weather, we'll keep you up to date
0:03:29 > 0:03:31with the weather for the week ahead right here.
0:03:34 > 0:03:35I have principles...
0:03:37 > 0:03:39..and I stick to 'em,
0:03:39 > 0:03:41but I'm not a stupid man.
