0:00:02 > 0:00:04In the last 24 hours or so we've seen quite a bit of snow.

0:00:04 > 0:00:07In fact, that snow has covered many parts of the UK

0:00:07 > 0:00:10all the way from parts of Scotland down into southern England.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12A bit more wintry weather overnight.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15Northern England into Scotland, some sleet and snow showers,

0:00:15 > 0:00:17maybe some more persistent snow in Scotland

0:00:17 > 0:00:19and a risk of ice to take us on into the morning.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22Into the afternoon we've still got that band of rain, sleet and snow

0:00:22 > 0:00:24across central parts of Scotland but the far

0:00:24 > 0:00:27north of Scotland should avoid it and see some winter sunshine.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29But a pretty grey look to things further south

0:00:29 > 0:00:32and there is that snow to contend with as well.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34Northern England is largely dry but cold and grey

0:00:34 > 0:00:36and after a grey start for East Anglia

0:00:36 > 0:00:39and the south-east we should see some sunshine coming through.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41But it won't do much for those temperatures -

0:00:41 > 0:00:43it's still cold into the afternoon at three or four degrees.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45Further west, a bit more cloud, outbreaks of rain.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47A bit of a breeze as well.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Might see temperatures up to about six or seven degrees,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51so I suppose it's relatively mild.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54Five degrees in Cardiff with some outbreaks of rain.

0:00:54 > 0:00:55On the cold side here,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57maybe even a little bit of snow over higher ground.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00In Northern Ireland, though, we're at six or seven degrees

0:01:00 > 0:01:02and a lot of cloud into the afternoon.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05A little bit of rain but that tends to fade away.

0:01:05 > 0:01:06Meanwhile in Scotland,

0:01:06 > 0:01:09through the evening we've still got that area of rain, sleet and snow.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11Little bit of rain towards the south and west of the UK.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14Elsewhere, though, it's a clear night, particularly for central

0:01:14 > 0:01:17and eastern areas, and it will be a cold one as well -

0:01:17 > 0:01:21a widespread frost, -2, -3 in Norwich and in London.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23So, a cold start to the day on Tuesday

0:01:23 > 0:01:24and two main features to watch out for.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27This one in the south-west will bring some outbreaks of rain with it

0:01:27 > 0:01:30and this feature to the north-east is likely to bring

0:01:30 > 0:01:32a mixture of rain, sleet and some snow.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35That will be drifting south through Scotland into the far

0:01:35 > 0:01:36north-east of England.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39Elsewhere, after a cold start, should be a good deal of sunshine,

0:01:39 > 0:01:42crisp, winter sunshine. Still maybe a bit more cloud

0:01:42 > 0:01:44and a bit of rain towards the far south and west.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47Six or seven again in Plymouth and in Belfast

0:01:47 > 0:01:49but most places another cold day -

0:01:49 > 0:01:51three or four degrees by the middle of the afternoon.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54And then, by the middle of the week, it looks like we're going

0:01:54 > 0:01:57to see this area of high pressure drifting down from the north.

0:01:57 > 0:01:58That is not without its problems

0:01:58 > 0:02:01because with light winds across some central and eastern areas,

0:02:01 > 0:02:04we are likely to see some fog patches forming and that may well be

0:02:04 > 0:02:07freezing fog and that may well linger into the afternoon.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10The further west you are a bit more of a breeze, so less of a risk

0:02:10 > 0:02:13of the fog and a better chance of seeing at least some sunshine.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Another cold day for most places, though - three,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17four degrees fairly typical.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19We start to see a bit of a change, though, by Thursday.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22Weather fronts trying to push in against that area of high

0:02:22 > 0:02:24pressure and I think the breeze will be picking up as well,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27so a windier day and a wetter day out towards the western side of the UK.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Might see some wintry weather on the leading edge of this weather

0:02:30 > 0:02:35system and temperatures about four, five degrees, so still cold for many.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38But signs of things turning a little bit milder in the western side

0:02:38 > 0:02:41of the UK and it looks like that mild air will be following behind

0:02:41 > 0:02:44this wind and rain, which will be affecting all parts of the UK

0:02:44 > 0:02:46through Thursday night and on into Friday.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49That rain could be heavy at times but it'll clear away,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51it'll brighten up, sunshine

0:02:51 > 0:02:54and showers through Friday afternoon and temperatures into double

0:02:54 > 0:02:57figures for Cardiff, London, Belfast and Glasgow.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01So, on into next weekend and beyond. A much more unsettled look to things.

0:03:01 > 0:03:02There'll be some rain at times,

0:03:02 > 0:03:06the breeze will be quite strong for some and notably those

0:03:06 > 0:03:09temperatures rising back to something much nearer the norm.

0:03:09 > 0:03:10So, why the change?

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Well, the main reason is this area of high pressure that's drifting

0:03:13 > 0:03:15back into the near continent

0:03:15 > 0:03:18and that's allowing areas of low pressure to come our way.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20And with that comes a south-westerly breeze.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23That'll be dragging in a lot of cloud and outbreaks of rain,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25hence the more unsettled look to things,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27but it's also going to be a south-westerly breeze

0:03:27 > 0:03:29and that's going to bring that milder air with it.
