0:00:03 > 0:00:07Well, thanks for joining me. Let's see if this cold weather's going

0:00:07 > 0:00:09to last for a few more days yet and the answer is yes,

0:00:09 > 0:00:11it is, we've got more cold weather

0:00:11 > 0:00:12on the way,

0:00:12 > 0:00:14not desperately cold, but chilly.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16In fact, very chilly first thing

0:00:16 > 0:00:18in the morning on Tuesday across

0:00:18 > 0:00:19southern and south-eastern areas

0:00:19 > 0:00:21after a very, very frosty night.

0:00:21 > 0:00:22But also frosty across

0:00:22 > 0:00:24the northern half of Scotland.

0:00:24 > 0:00:25Here, too, across the glens,

0:00:25 > 0:00:27temperatures overnight have

0:00:27 > 0:00:29been close to -10 degrees

0:00:29 > 0:00:31and even more in one or two areas.

0:00:31 > 0:00:32Now, for northern England

0:00:32 > 0:00:34and for basically many western areas

0:00:34 > 0:00:36of the UK, it's around 5, 6 degrees

0:00:36 > 0:00:37during the afternoon,

0:00:37 > 0:00:40but this part of the country,

0:00:40 > 0:00:43the South East, really chilly day on Tuesday.

0:00:43 > 0:00:44Some sunshine, yes,

0:00:44 > 0:00:45but after a very frosty night,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47those temperatures struggling.

0:00:47 > 0:00:48You have to get down

0:00:48 > 0:00:49to south-western parts of the country

0:00:49 > 0:00:51before you get temperatures

0:00:51 > 0:00:53of around 7 degrees there in Plymouth.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55Chilly in Cardiff, 4 Celsius.

0:00:55 > 0:00:56And just that little bit milder

0:00:56 > 0:00:58there in Belfast, around 7 degrees.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00So wherever you are, you get the message,

0:01:00 > 0:01:04it's around 4 to 7 degrees

0:01:04 > 0:01:14and it's going to stay like that

0:01:14 > 0:01:15For Wednesday, then, high pressure

0:01:15 > 0:01:17in charge of the weather here.

0:01:17 > 0:01:18That's basically a block,

0:01:18 > 0:01:21it stops this milder Atlantic air

0:01:21 > 0:01:23sitting here coming our way.

0:01:23 > 0:01:24It will eventually reach us

0:01:24 > 0:01:26but not yet, not at this stage,

0:01:26 > 0:01:27so this is Wednesday.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Another frosty start to the day,

0:01:29 > 0:01:30a little bit of sunshine,

0:01:30 > 0:01:31and a bit of cloud too.

0:01:31 > 0:01:32You can see where the shade is,

0:01:32 > 0:01:33indicating the cloud,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35and some sunshine poking through

0:01:35 > 0:01:37there across Yorkshire, Wales,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39maybe southern parts of England as well.

0:01:39 > 0:01:40And another chilly day,

0:01:40 > 0:01:42around 3 to 4 degrees.

0:01:42 > 0:01:43Then on Wednesday,

0:01:43 > 0:01:46we start to see this area of high pressure

0:01:46 > 0:01:47nudge away just that little bit

0:01:47 > 0:01:48towards the east

0:01:48 > 0:01:50and these weather fronts start

0:01:50 > 0:01:51to make a little bit more progress.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54That means that the jet stream's ramping up,

0:01:54 > 0:01:55that means the jet stream

0:01:55 > 0:01:57is pushing the milder, wetter, cloudier,

0:01:57 > 0:01:58windy weather in our direction,

0:01:58 > 0:01:59so you can see temperatures

0:01:59 > 0:02:01already possibly into double figures

0:02:01 > 0:02:03across some of these western areas.

0:02:03 > 0:02:04And here's a look at the jet stream,

0:02:04 > 0:02:05end of the week.

0:02:05 > 0:02:06It's a quite strong one,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08pushing the weather fronts

0:02:08 > 0:02:09in our direction

0:02:09 > 0:02:10and then it kind of grinds

0:02:10 > 0:02:12almost to a halt, or rather, changes

0:02:12 > 0:02:14direction and moves northwards

0:02:14 > 0:02:15rather than zipping across us.

0:02:15 > 0:02:16What does that mean?

0:02:16 > 0:02:20Well, basically that is an indication that the milder air is going

0:02:20 > 0:02:24to be grazing western areas of the UK, whereas the further east you are,

0:02:24 > 0:02:26the more likely you are

0:02:26 > 0:02:27to hold onto some of that colder air.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29So imagine if the cold air is sitting

0:02:29 > 0:02:30across the continent here,

0:02:30 > 0:02:32it will be pushed in the direction

0:02:32 > 0:02:34of East Anglia, but the milder Atlantic air

0:02:34 > 0:02:35is reaching many western areas,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38so this is where we've got the mild conditions,

0:02:38 > 0:02:3911 degrees, say, in Cardiff,

0:02:39 > 0:02:42but possibly colder for Norwich and London.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45I've deliberately left out those temperatures just to give you

0:02:45 > 0:02:49an indication that temperatures could be some 5, 6 degrees colder here

0:02:49 > 0:02:52compared to what we might have across many western areas in the UK,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55so the mild air is heading our way but not for everybody

0:02:55 > 0:02:59and then next week, for us to get milder air,

0:02:59 > 0:03:01we need a jet stream to cut straight across us,

0:03:01 > 0:03:04but what's going to happen, this area

0:03:04 > 0:03:07of low pressure will keep sending air from the south which will be

0:03:07 > 0:03:09gnawing on the western areas of the UK,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11so not really influencing

0:03:11 > 0:03:13an awful lot of eastern areas of the country

0:03:13 > 0:03:16and that just means that the floodgates will remain open next week

0:03:16 > 0:03:18for perhaps, perhaps,

0:03:18 > 0:03:22cos there's no certainty, for some of that colder air to once again return

0:03:22 > 0:03:24to many eastern areas of the UK,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26so it's a bit of a west-east split

0:03:26 > 0:03:28over the next week or so.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29Thanks for watching.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38So, no-one pays tax here? No-one pays taxes.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41BBC2 shows you how to do it.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43I'd like to take you all offshore

0:03:43 > 0:03:44to legally avoid tax.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47It is a licence to print cash.

0:03:47 > 0:03:48And how not to do it.
