0:00:02 > 0:00:05We've seen a transition in weather type through the middle part

0:00:05 > 0:00:08of the week. We started off the week with cold, crisp wintry conditions

0:00:08 > 0:00:11with frost, ice and some sunshine around, too, but earlier on

0:00:11 > 0:00:14in the week temperatures typically struggle just a degree or two

0:00:14 > 0:00:16above freezing. Through the middle part of the week

0:00:16 > 0:00:19the temperatures have risen to about average and by the weekend

0:00:19 > 0:00:22we're likely to see those temperatures topping around

0:00:22 > 0:00:25about 15 degrees or so - well above average for this time of year.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28We've already seen the mild air start to pour in across the country

0:00:28 > 0:00:31and with the milder conditions also the arrival of some

0:00:31 > 0:00:32wet and windy weather.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34A band of cloud, wind and rain

0:00:34 > 0:00:37working its way gradually eastwards through Friday.

0:00:37 > 0:00:39That will be followed by brighter, drier conditions

0:00:39 > 0:00:41rolling in from the west.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43A return to some sunshine but there's likely to be

0:00:43 > 0:00:46some lying surface water around after the morning's heavy rain.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48For parts of Northern Ireland and southwest Scotland

0:00:48 > 0:00:50there could be some localised flooding.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52Temperature-wise we're back into double figures,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54perhaps just holding on to the cooler conditions

0:00:54 > 0:00:57for some eastern counties of England for a time.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Once we lose that weather front late on Friday we look to see

0:01:00 > 0:01:03drier conditions, clearer skies Friday night and into Saturday.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06A few blustery showers towards the north and west.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08But a ridge of higher pressure starts to build

0:01:08 > 0:01:10as we head into the first part of the weekend.

0:01:10 > 0:01:14That will dominate things through Saturday, so not a bad day at all.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16There could be some mist and fog around at first

0:01:16 > 0:01:19but a largely dry day with spells of sunshine on Saturday

0:01:19 > 0:01:21and certainly feeling quite mild.

0:01:21 > 0:01:25Sunday a different day, still very mild but a cloudier picture,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27so a greyer day with some outbreaks of rain,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29especially in the north and west.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32This is how Saturday's shaping up - mist and fog

0:01:32 > 0:01:33in the south likely first thing

0:01:33 > 0:01:36but a lot of dry weather, some sunny spells on offer,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38the breeze picking up in the west

0:01:38 > 0:01:40and perhaps some rain working in here later on.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42But for the vast majority it's a dry day.

0:01:42 > 0:01:46Temperatures are set to peak around 10 or 11 degrees

0:01:46 > 0:01:48where we do get that brightness.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50A change into Sunday. We've got more cloud

0:01:50 > 0:01:53and that cloud bringing with it some outbreaks of rain for some

0:01:53 > 0:01:56northern and western areas, the breeze picking up in the west.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58But central and eastern parts staying dry

0:01:58 > 0:02:00and where the cloud breaks we're likely to see

0:02:00 > 0:02:0114 or 15 degrees -

0:02:01 > 0:02:04well above normal for this time of year.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06Some uncertainty onto the first part of the new working week.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09On Monday it looks like we will see a developing area of low pressure

0:02:09 > 0:02:12that's likely to bring some windy conditions on Monday,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14particularly the further west you are.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17So a wet and windy day for Northern Ireland, Wales,

0:02:17 > 0:02:18parts of Scotland, too.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21For central and eastern parts of England still very mild

0:02:21 > 0:02:23and there could be a bit of sunshine on offer.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26There will be some windy and wet weather at times on Monday.

0:02:26 > 0:02:27On into Tuesday,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30some uncertainty on the exact detail and timing

0:02:30 > 0:02:32but it looks like a quieter day.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35We're likely to start with the remnants of some showery weather,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38easing way, later on things drier, a return to some sunny skies

0:02:38 > 0:02:41but feeling a bit fresher with temperatures down

0:02:41 > 0:02:43a few degrees compared to Monday.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46This is a simplified representation of what's happening with

0:02:46 > 0:02:49the jet stream through the middle to the latter part of next week.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51You can see an undulating jet stream back into the Atlantic.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54At times we'll be on the cold side of that, at other times

0:02:54 > 0:02:57on the milder side of it towards the south of the jet stream.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00When we're on the south it will send low pressure systems our way

0:03:00 > 0:03:02bringing milder but wetter weather.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Towards the north of the jet stream that's when we'll see periods

0:03:05 > 0:03:08of drier, fresher, brighter and cooler conditions

0:03:08 > 0:03:10with some scattered showers.

0:03:10 > 0:03:14So it will be a bit of a changeable sort of week ahead, really,

0:03:14 > 0:03:18with milder spells of weather interspersed with colder spells, too.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20Rain and wind at times with the milder weather

0:03:20 > 0:03:23but a chance we could see some frosty conditions overnight, too.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26So plenty going on with the weather through the week ahead.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29We'll keep you up to date right here. Bye-bye.

0:03:33 > 0:03:37It all started with the discovery of one enormous thigh bone.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42It's like a paleontological crime scene.
