0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. If you have seen the news in the last couple of days,

0:00:05 > 0:00:08you will know all about the winter snowstorm in the United States.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11It is now clearing away, moving away from eastern Canada as well.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14It is going to cross the Atlantic, yes, it is heading our way.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17But as it crosses the Atlantic, it becomes a different beast.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20It starts to draw in warmth and moisture from the tropics,

0:00:20 > 0:00:21that will warm it up.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23So there is no snow in the forecast for the United Kingdom

0:00:23 > 0:00:27but there is some pretty strong winds and some heavy rainfall to be had.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29As we see that system come in from the Atlantic,

0:00:29 > 0:00:32it draws in milder air with it so we can expect temperatures

0:00:32 > 0:00:36to be a good few degrees above where they should be for this time of year.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38We start Monday on a pretty mild note,

0:00:38 > 0:00:4011 or 12 degrees in the north and west.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Something of an east-west split,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44with western areas seeing cloud, wind and rain.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46That slowly moves its way eastwards and begins to fizzle out

0:00:46 > 0:00:49but many eastern areas having a reasonable day,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51staying dry for longest in East Anglia and the south-east.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54Probably hanging on to some sunshine, 12 or 13 degrees here.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56It might turn fresher behind this second weather front which

0:00:56 > 0:00:59will bring some rain to Northern Ireland through the afternoon.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01That moves on to western Scotland.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03It crosses northern England through the evening

0:01:03 > 0:01:04and then the skies tend to clear.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07It will turn chilly in comparison with recent nights

0:01:07 > 0:01:12but nothing too untoward. By dawn we are down to five, six, seven degrees

0:01:12 > 0:01:14in towns and cities. A little lower in rural spots.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17But already that big low is beginning to show its hand,

0:01:17 > 0:01:19wet and windy weather pushing in to the north and west.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21Maybe a little snow over high ground for a time

0:01:21 > 0:01:23but Tuesday is all about the strength of the wind

0:01:23 > 0:01:26because it is gales or severe gales in the north and west.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Some very heavy rainfall, western Scotland

0:01:28 > 0:01:30and the western side of England and Wales.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33In Wales, we really do need to watch those rainfall totals

0:01:33 > 0:01:35because they could be quite large.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38On the face of it, it is a mild day, 12 or 13 degrees but in the wind

0:01:38 > 0:01:40and the rain, not feeling great.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44In the middle of the week, we still have trailing weather fronts across

0:01:44 > 0:01:47the south of the UK, that could be problematic in terms of the rain.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50A little low running its way across the north.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52Another windy day for most parts

0:01:52 > 0:01:54and outbreaks of rain across the south of the UK.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Some of that could be heavy. Rain in the north as well.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00Again, it is 12 or 13 degrees on the face of it but it is wet

0:02:00 > 0:02:02and it is windy as well.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05It looks pretty windy on into Thursday.

0:02:05 > 0:02:06Lots of isobars still on the chart.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09But the further south and east you are, it is not going to be

0:02:09 > 0:02:12such a bad day, it will be dry and bright for the most part.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14Further north and west, we have this wind and rain moving in.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17So it will be wet and windy once again in western Scotland,

0:02:17 > 0:02:18into Northern Ireland.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20Towards the south-east, it is largely dry and bright.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23Might get 10 degrees out of the day but many other areas

0:02:23 > 0:02:25it's seven, eight or nine.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Towards the end of the week and there are lots of isobars still

0:02:28 > 0:02:31on the chart. There is this weather front across the north

0:02:31 > 0:02:35and the west of the UK and that'll be bringing more wind and rain with it.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Western Scotland, Northern Ireland,

0:02:37 > 0:02:40some of that will get into the western side of England and Wales.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43The further south and east you are, it should stay essentially dry

0:02:43 > 0:02:45but it looks rather cloudy by the end of the week.

0:02:45 > 0:02:50So the jet stream is snaking its way across the northern hemisphere

0:02:50 > 0:02:53through this week and on into next weekend.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56It will bring spells of wind and rain with it, sometimes on the cold side

0:02:56 > 0:02:59but I think most of the time will be on the warmer side.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03Into next weekend, it remains quite changeable

0:03:03 > 0:03:06so that means we will see some spells of wind and rain but,

0:03:06 > 0:03:10generally speaking, we are looking at some pretty mild weather.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13So the big pictures sees outbreaks of wind

0:03:13 > 0:03:16and rain across the north and the west of the UK.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18Some of the rain could be quite heavy,

0:03:18 > 0:03:21the winds could be quite strong but towards the south and the east

0:03:21 > 0:03:23and it looks like it should be that bit drier.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26Not completely dry, there will be some rain at times.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28If you need more details, there's plenty more

0:03:28 > 0:03:29on the BBC weather website.
