0:00:03 > 0:00:06We're heading into a different month, but it is the same weather -

0:00:06 > 0:00:10changeable, sometimes stormy. In fact, much as we saw in January.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12Let's take a moment to look back at January's weather.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14It started with scenes like this, more flooding,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16this time in eastern Scotland.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18Aberdeenshire had its wettest January on record.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20Looking at the UK as a whole,

0:00:20 > 0:00:23provisionally for the month the Met Office says January was wetter

0:00:23 > 0:00:25and milder than average.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Not quite as wet or as mild as December, mind you.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30It had these big swings of temperature,

0:00:30 > 0:00:33the coldest weather of the winter so far, minus 12 in Highland Scotland,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36but near 17 Celsius at times.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38There are more swings in the weather on the way this week,

0:00:38 > 0:00:42but the main focus as the week begins is the strength of wind,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44another named storm coming our way,

0:00:44 > 0:00:48Storm Henry winding itself up in the Atlantic.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50We think those winds will peak on Monday night in Scotland,

0:00:50 > 0:00:53which is covered, much of Scotland, by a Met Office

0:00:53 > 0:00:55amber "be prepared" warning

0:00:55 > 0:00:57for the disruption that Henry is likely to cause.

0:00:57 > 0:01:01As Monday begins, northern England, Northern Ireland, Scotland already

0:01:01 > 0:01:05seeing some gusts around 50, 60mph, winds strengthening across the UK.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07A weakening band of rain heading south,

0:01:07 > 0:01:10cloudy throughout in south-east England.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13Elsewhere, sunny spells developing, but showers, hail, thunder possible,

0:01:13 > 0:01:17wintry on hills again in Scotland as colder air starts to spread south.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20Again, those winds strengthening all the time, really rattling

0:01:20 > 0:01:21through the mountains of North Wales,

0:01:21 > 0:01:24particularly northern England, Northern Ireland, 60, 70mph gusts.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27But in Scotland, late in the afternoon to the evening

0:01:27 > 0:01:31and night, 70 to 80mph gusts possibly even in the central

0:01:31 > 0:01:34belt, and in the far north and north-west up to 90mph.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37Big, dangerous waves crashing into the coastline here, as well.

0:01:37 > 0:01:41So a nasty storm with disruption likely to continue into the first

0:01:41 > 0:01:45part of Tuesday as Henry only slowly moves off towards Scandinavia.

0:01:45 > 0:01:49So, on Tuesday, then, a very windy start, winds slowly easing,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52sunshine and showers, a colder feel,

0:01:52 > 0:01:55so a wintry flavour to those showers, particularly on hills.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57Strong winds may come back to parts of Northern Ireland,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59north-west England, North Wales late in the day.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01That's something we'll keep an eye on.

0:02:01 > 0:02:05But going into Wednesday, there's a gap in-between weather systems

0:02:05 > 0:02:09and a brief ridge of high pressure, something quieter coming our way.

0:02:09 > 0:02:10A colder day on Wednesday.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13There'll probably be frost to start and end the day, some sunshine.

0:02:13 > 0:02:17If you like dry, sunny weather, this is the better day of the week.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19So for a time, we can relax.

0:02:19 > 0:02:23But not for long. This very active jet stream pushing weather systems

0:02:23 > 0:02:26across the Atlantic has another one for us Thursday into Friday.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Initially on Thursday,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30it'll be a warm front spreading northwards with

0:02:30 > 0:02:34outbreaks of rain, more cloud around, of course, with that and

0:02:34 > 0:02:37temperatures starting to head up, so getting back into the milder air.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Only briefly, though, because by Friday,

0:02:40 > 0:02:42this deep area of low pressure - not quite as deep, we think,

0:02:42 > 0:02:45as Henry but still making it very windy, especially in Scotland -

0:02:45 > 0:02:47will move to the north of the UK

0:02:47 > 0:02:50on Friday, driving a band of heavy rain southwards, sunshine,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53showers following on behind with colder air once again

0:02:53 > 0:02:55but another windy day on Friday.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58That's what I mean by the changeable weather continuing into February.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02We're going to start, of course, stormy with Storm Henry,

0:03:02 > 0:03:04but then something a bit quieter but colder

0:03:04 > 0:03:07settling in for the middle of the week, but it doesn't last long

0:03:07 > 0:03:11as we get more wet and windy weather coming back for the end of the week.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14Now, going into next weekend, as this latest wet and windy

0:03:14 > 0:03:17weather system moves away, it drags colder air back in across the UK.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20Next weekend, into the start of the second week of February,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22still unsettled but looking colder.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25There's a chance in the second week of February of something colder

0:03:25 > 0:03:27but more settled coming our way...

0:03:27 > 0:03:30briefly. Briefly will be better than not at all.
