0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello there. It seemed we barely had time to catch our breath

0:00:05 > 0:00:08after Storm Gertrude left the UK before hot on its

0:00:08 > 0:00:12heels was Storm Henry, our eighth named storm of the winter season.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15It made for some dramatic Weather Watchers' pictures,

0:00:15 > 0:00:19but it also brought some damaging gusts of wind.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21And in fact, we will continue to see those damaging

0:00:21 > 0:00:24gusts of wind for the first half of Tuesday.

0:00:24 > 0:00:29Severe gales, perhaps storm force, into the far north, slowly

0:00:29 > 0:00:32easing down through the afternoon but still a windy day for all of us.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35On top of that, there will be some relentless rain and some

0:00:35 > 0:00:38snow to the tops of mountains, blizzard-like conditions here.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41A scattering of showers along west-facing coasts,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43but some brightness elsewhere,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45but a windy afternoon and temperatures struggling,

0:00:45 > 0:00:51perhaps, to get into double figures, six to ten degrees at the very best.

0:00:51 > 0:00:55Now, as we move out of Tuesday into Wednesday, we will continue to see

0:00:55 > 0:00:58the remnants of Henry with this dying weather front as it

0:00:58 > 0:01:00continues to push its way steadily south.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03For a time, winds will strengthen through the Irish Sea,

0:01:03 > 0:01:06affecting north-west England, and on the leading edge we could see

0:01:06 > 0:01:09some snow across the Pennines and perhaps higher ground of Wales.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12More importantly, behind it a colder night to come with

0:01:12 > 0:01:15a widespread frost and maybe some ice on untreated surfaces.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18So, we start off on Wednesday with the remnants of that dying

0:01:18 > 0:01:20weather front, but it is a dying one

0:01:20 > 0:01:23and just really a band of cloud by the middle of the day

0:01:23 > 0:01:26on Wednesday, with the odd spot or two of showery rain.

0:01:26 > 0:01:27After that chilly start,

0:01:27 > 0:01:30there'll be some sunshine into the far north as the winds swing

0:01:30 > 0:01:33round to a north-westerly direction, so a cooler feel here,

0:01:33 > 0:01:34four or five degrees.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36To the south of that band of cloud

0:01:36 > 0:01:39we should see temperatures sitting at around eight or nine.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42As we move into Thursday, still a quieter story.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44There is the potential for persistent rain in the north-west.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48We'll need to keep an eye on that. It may lead to localised flooding.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50And again, the winds swing back to a south-westerly,

0:01:50 > 0:01:54driving in milder air. Temperatures return back to double figures.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58Another weather front waiting in the wings for Friday.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01And there is a level of uncertainty as to the timings of this weather

0:02:01 > 0:02:04front and how quickly it's going to sink its way south and east.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07More importantly, it's dragging in milder southerly air for a time,

0:02:07 > 0:02:11and there will be heavy rain, as well, we'll need to keep an eye on.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13But as that weather front sinks south and east -

0:02:13 > 0:02:16and, as I say, timing's a little uncertain at the moment -

0:02:16 > 0:02:18I need to draw your attention to this area of low pressure

0:02:18 > 0:02:20developing into the south-west.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23That could cause some issues as we move into the weekend.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25If you've got weekend plans,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27you'll need to keep abreast of the weather forecast.

0:02:27 > 0:02:28One thing is for certain -

0:02:28 > 0:02:31as that front does continue to clear its way south and east,

0:02:31 > 0:02:36yet again it will allow colder air to flood back in across the country.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39The jet stream is going to be sitting to the southern

0:02:39 > 0:02:40flank of the UK,

0:02:40 > 0:02:45allowing that colder air from Iceland to filter further south.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48But we talk about the jet stream as this ribbon of fast-moving

0:02:48 > 0:02:51air driving areas of low pressure towards the UK,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53so there's the potential of that low that we were

0:02:53 > 0:02:56talking about down into the south-west to

0:02:56 > 0:02:59move across the southern portion of the UK into the weekend.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01If that happens, we could see some windy weather,

0:03:01 > 0:03:04and for a time, as it bumps into the cold air,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07we might on the leading edge see a little bit of snow, as well.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09That's why I say keep watching the forecast.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12However, we are expecting the jet stream to then drift further

0:03:12 > 0:03:17north and sit across the UK, and then it's all change yet again.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20So, into the first half of next week, it looks as though

0:03:20 > 0:03:24it'll be windy, showery with milder temperatures starting to develop.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27Anywhere to the north of that jet stream will stay cold, to the

0:03:27 > 0:03:30south a little bit warmer. That's it. Take care.
