0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello. The outlook since yesterday's Weather For The Week Ahead

0:00:06 > 0:00:08hasn't really changed, a lot of blustery weather on the way.

0:00:08 > 0:00:12In fact, for the next week or so, we'll see spells of rain

0:00:12 > 0:00:14and some really gusty winds, and I think the south

0:00:14 > 0:00:16particularly is going to get some really strong winds,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18because in the last few weeks or so

0:00:18 > 0:00:21we haven't seen frequent gales across the south at all.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23This is the broad message,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25low pressure after low pressure heading our way

0:00:25 > 0:00:28and a large swathe of strong winds waiting out there

0:00:28 > 0:00:33in the Atlantic accompanied by heavy, rain-bearing clouds, as well.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36So, this is the satellite picture in the last day or so,

0:00:36 > 0:00:39clouds churning away there, weather systems heading in our direction,

0:00:39 > 0:00:43and already from Saturday morning it's a case of gale-force

0:00:43 > 0:00:45winds around many of the south-western coasts

0:00:45 > 0:00:46and some pretty heavy rain.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48We could see up to 50, 60,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50maybe 70 millimetres of rain in the south-west

0:00:50 > 0:00:53and, on top of that, 50 to 60mph gusts,

0:00:53 > 0:00:56and some of these stronger ones will be also realised further

0:00:56 > 0:00:58inland, as well.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00Now, the heavy rain in the south-west will move

0:01:00 > 0:01:02eastwards through Saturday,

0:01:02 > 0:01:06so areas further east will also get some rain but not until later on.

0:01:06 > 0:01:10In fact, Saturday night, a really blustery end to the evening

0:01:10 > 0:01:12there, I think, across the east of the country.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15And then come Sunday, it's another very unsettled day,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17a mixture of sunshine,

0:01:17 > 0:01:20showers then sunshine again right from the word go,

0:01:20 > 0:01:23maybe some wintry ones across the higher ground in Scotland, and

0:01:23 > 0:01:27a really gusty sort of day, gales for sure around some of the coasts.

0:01:27 > 0:01:31Winds could be approaching again 60mph, inland around about 50,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33but there will be some sunshine around on Sunday.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35It's not looking too bad if you're sheltered from the wind

0:01:35 > 0:01:37and the showers.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39From the Midlands eastwards you could get a decent

0:01:39 > 0:01:40spell of brightness.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Early next week, it's the same thing over and over again.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45It's like the weather's a stuck record.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47We keep getting low pressures off the Atlantic.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51In fact, this is still the same one that's sitting across the UK.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53A lot of lines here, these pressure lines, isobars,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56so that means a rush of wind racing in off the Atlantic.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00Here's Monday. Plenty of showers across western and southern areas.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03We'll get some in the east, but I think they'll be most frequent

0:02:03 > 0:02:06across the west and the south, and of course those strong gusts of wind

0:02:06 > 0:02:09buffeting us through the course of Monday.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Tuesday, the wind changes direction a little bit.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15It briefly comes in from the north. It follows the isobars,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17so you can imagine the winds coming in from the north.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20That means it will turn briefly a little bit cooler across the

0:02:20 > 0:02:23northern half of the UK, five or six degrees,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25single-figure temperatures, in fact, for most of us, and

0:02:25 > 0:02:29it'll be another blustery day with a mixture of sunshine and showers.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33Now, something quieter is heading our way, but I think it's just going

0:02:33 > 0:02:37to be the one day next week, and at the moment it looks like Wednesday.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40But it's only a very small window of opportunity.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42We've got this mini area of high pressure over us,

0:02:42 > 0:02:45otherwise known as a ridge, and that's going to give us

0:02:45 > 0:02:49a fairly settled day with lighter winds but a cool one in the

0:02:49 > 0:02:52north, four or five degrees, just about nine or ten in the south.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54And then we start all over again.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56From the end of next week, this jet stream

0:02:56 > 0:02:59starts spawning more areas of low pressure,

0:02:59 > 0:03:02quite vigorous ones, as well, which means gusty winds.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04Gales are certainly a possibility.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07Now, yesterday I was suggesting that maybe towards the end of

0:03:07 > 0:03:10the week we could see some colder air sinking in from the north, but

0:03:10 > 0:03:13at the moment it does look as though the milder air is going to win.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17We are just going to be on the cusp of that cold and milder air, but

0:03:17 > 0:03:20the thing is that after this quieter spell midweek it does look as

0:03:20 > 0:03:23though those low pressures will once again start to

0:03:23 > 0:03:26bring in the mild, wet and windy weather once again.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29So just one day, Wednesday, we're thinking, should be the quieter day.
