0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello there. Mother Nature is in very agitated form,
0:00:06 > 0:00:09a pretty lively jet stream across the Atlantic firing one
0:00:09 > 0:00:12low-pressure system after another, bringing more scenes like this,
0:00:12 > 0:00:16recorded on the coast at Dorset on Saturday, over the next few days.
0:00:16 > 0:00:19On the pressure chart for Sunday, we've got a deep area
0:00:19 > 0:00:21of low pressure charging across the Atlantic to us.
0:00:21 > 0:00:23That will bring especially stormy weather for Monday
0:00:23 > 0:00:24across southern parts.
0:00:24 > 0:00:26But for Sunday itself,
0:00:26 > 0:00:28it's this area of low pressure which means
0:00:28 > 0:00:29the focus for the strongest winds
0:00:29 > 0:00:32are across Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England,
0:00:32 > 0:00:3450, 60mph gusts, easing through the afternoon,
0:00:34 > 0:00:35but blustery across the board.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38A brighter day for England and Wales, by and large,
0:00:38 > 0:00:40a few lively showers, though, in the breeze
0:00:40 > 0:00:42but a good deal of sunshine, too,
0:00:42 > 0:00:44before things cloud over from the west, temperatures to
0:00:44 > 0:00:48finish Sunday cooler than Saturday's at around five to ten degrees.
0:00:48 > 0:00:51Now, quite quickly through Sunday night, rain will spread
0:00:51 > 0:00:54eastwards across all parts, lively bursts of rain and gusty winds.
0:00:54 > 0:00:57The strongest of the winds come with a sting in its tail -
0:00:57 > 0:00:59the southern flank of this area of low pressure
0:00:59 > 0:01:02as it barges its way into southern parts for Monday morning,
0:01:02 > 0:01:04just to coincide with the rush hour.
0:01:04 > 0:01:06We could see 50, 60, 70, maybe 80mph gusts,
0:01:06 > 0:01:08particularly around some of
0:01:08 > 0:01:10the hills and coasts of Wales and southern England.
0:01:10 > 0:01:13But even inland, widespread gales through the morning,
0:01:13 > 0:01:17lively showers, as well, and some very high seas to go with it.
0:01:17 > 0:01:20So some potential disruption across southern areas on Monday.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23By comparison, a different day in the far north of England, Scotland,
0:01:23 > 0:01:26Northern Ireland, much lighter winds, barely a breeze for some,
0:01:26 > 0:01:29a bit of sunshine here and there but one or two slow-moving showers.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32The winds ease off a little through the afternoon across
0:01:32 > 0:01:33southern parts of the UK,
0:01:33 > 0:01:36but there'll still be lots of heavy showers
0:01:36 > 0:01:38around, rumbles of thunder with it and feeling rather cool,
0:01:38 > 0:01:40temperatures six to ten degrees,
0:01:40 > 0:01:43of course exacerbated by the strength of the wind.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46So, one low-pressure system slowly pushes away through Monday
0:01:46 > 0:01:47night and into Tuesday,
0:01:47 > 0:01:51but it does have an almost-twin on its back edge which could
0:01:51 > 0:01:53strengthen winds through the night and into the morning
0:01:53 > 0:01:56in Northern Ireland, Wales and south-west England again.
0:01:56 > 0:01:58Not quite the levels we'll have seen on Monday,
0:01:58 > 0:02:00but gales still possible once more,
0:02:00 > 0:02:02and a weather front pushing southwards will bring
0:02:02 > 0:02:05rain, a little bit of sleet and snow over the higher ground.
0:02:05 > 0:02:08The real cold air is limited to the far north of Scotland at this stage.
0:02:08 > 0:02:11Some drier and brighter weather potentially in the east,
0:02:11 > 0:02:13where winds will be a little lighter.
0:02:13 > 0:02:14Tuesday night into Wednesday,
0:02:14 > 0:02:17that low-pressure system finally pulls away.
0:02:17 > 0:02:19Still some strong winds in eastern areas,
0:02:19 > 0:02:22maybe rain, sleet and snow showers as cold air works its way in.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25It could be a frosty, icy start to Wednesday morning
0:02:25 > 0:02:28but probably the quietest day of the week.
0:02:28 > 0:02:31The strongest winds on eastern coasts. Elsewhere, light winds,
0:02:31 > 0:02:34some sunshine around but a chilly day after that frosty and icy start.
0:02:34 > 0:02:36There'll be areas of cloud and one or two showers,
0:02:36 > 0:02:38not a completely dry day.
0:02:38 > 0:02:41The brief respite, though, is fairly limited to one day only,
0:02:41 > 0:02:44because the next low-pressure system pushes in for Thursday.
0:02:44 > 0:02:46The exact position will be crucial.
0:02:46 > 0:02:48It could be a little bit further north or south.
0:02:48 > 0:02:50Why is it crucial? Well, it runs into cold air.
0:02:50 > 0:02:53On its northern flank we'll see sleet and snow,
0:02:53 > 0:02:55mainly across the hills of northern England and Scotland.
0:02:55 > 0:02:58Heavy rain, strong winds elsewhere. The strongest winds will be
0:02:58 > 0:03:01limited to the coasts, where again we could see some gales.
0:03:01 > 0:03:05In the latter stages of the week, through the weekend into next week,
0:03:05 > 0:03:07we still see a progression of low-pressure systems
0:03:07 > 0:03:09pushing through on a very active jet stream,
0:03:09 > 0:03:12maybe taking a little bit longer to get from one low pressure to
0:03:12 > 0:03:15another, so some drier spells in-between.
0:03:15 > 0:03:16And exactly where they push is crucial,
0:03:16 > 0:03:19because on the northern flank we're likely to see snow.
0:03:19 > 0:03:21But summing up the rest of the week into next week,
0:03:21 > 0:03:24we've still got those wet, windy conditions over the next few days,
0:03:24 > 0:03:27a quieter spell through midweek, then more wet
0:03:27 > 0:03:31and windy weather next weekend and the start of next week. Bye for now.
