0:00:01 > 0:00:02Hello, there.

0:00:02 > 0:00:05After a reasonably mild and unsettled start to February,

0:00:05 > 0:00:07the weather is now feeling quite a bit more wintry

0:00:07 > 0:00:10and we've got the cold conditions set to stay with us

0:00:10 > 0:00:12for much of the next week to ten days or so.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14Let's look at the here and now.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16Through Friday, a bit of a cloudier day

0:00:16 > 0:00:18than we saw on Thursday.

0:00:18 > 0:00:19A chilly start to the morning.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21Some showery rain across parts of England,

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Wales, Northern Ireland, too.

0:00:23 > 0:00:24And for Scotland, some snow.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27A few centimetres in the east,

0:00:27 > 0:00:28heading further south,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31but temperatures around 4-8 degrees -

0:00:31 > 0:00:33a little below par for the time of year.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35As we head through the latter part of Friday,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37we keep that snow across parts of Scotland

0:00:37 > 0:00:39in the east, heading its way southwards,

0:00:39 > 0:00:40and then this area of rain

0:00:40 > 0:00:41working in from the southwest,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43the winds picking up as well,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45so another chilly start to the weekend.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47Saturday will be dominated by a couple of things.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49First off, we've got this area of low pressure

0:00:49 > 0:00:51heading in from the southwest.

0:00:51 > 0:00:52Tight isobars, too,

0:00:52 > 0:00:53so a spell of fairly windy weather

0:00:53 > 0:00:55for southern counties being combined

0:00:55 > 0:00:56with some rain, too.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Winds particularly strong across

0:00:58 > 0:00:59areas of the southwest of England

0:00:59 > 0:01:01towards the Channel Isles, too.

0:01:01 > 0:01:02And to the north of that,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04we draw in this cold easterly wind

0:01:04 > 0:01:05from the near continent.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Wet weather in the south, pretty chilly here.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Further north, we've got that area

0:01:09 > 0:01:11of snow lingering for the east of Scotland.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13That could be causing a few problems,

0:01:13 > 0:01:15a bit of disruption, as it works its way south

0:01:15 > 0:01:17into the northeast of England.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19Saturday into Sunday stays pretty cold.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22You can see the blue hue returning to the map

0:01:22 > 0:01:23and a northerly air flow,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25so those northerly winds bringing us

0:01:25 > 0:01:27another cold day for many areas on Sunday,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29although it is looking a bit quieter.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31Snow showers in the north gradually fading,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33and the winds and the rain further south

0:01:33 > 0:01:34easing away through the day.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37Only around 4-8 Celsius.

0:01:37 > 0:01:38Through Sunday, and as we look

0:01:38 > 0:01:40ahead into the new week,

0:01:40 > 0:01:41you can trace those isobars right

0:01:41 > 0:01:43up towards the Arctic.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45We're going to be keeping that northerly flow

0:01:45 > 0:01:46of air through the day on Monday

0:01:46 > 0:01:48and that could bring us a few snow flurries

0:01:48 > 0:01:50to many eastern areas.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52Cloudy here, with outbreaks of rain and snow.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54Whereas, further west, that's where we're likely

0:01:54 > 0:01:56to see the brighter conditions.

0:01:56 > 0:01:57Another chilly-feeling day,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59particularly around those eastern coasts.

0:01:59 > 0:02:00Then through Tuesday

0:02:00 > 0:02:02and the middle part of the week,

0:02:02 > 0:02:03we're going to be seeing this

0:02:03 > 0:02:05area of high pressure in the Atlantic nudging in,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07so a ridge of high pressure in charge

0:02:07 > 0:02:09through the day on Tuesday.

0:02:09 > 0:02:10That means the northerly winds

0:02:10 > 0:02:12should ease a little bit,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14not feeling quite as raw,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16but still chilly at only 5-8 Celsius.

0:02:16 > 0:02:17A lot of dry weather on Tuesday,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19but you'll notice that rain creeping in

0:02:19 > 0:02:20towards the northwest.

0:02:20 > 0:02:21There could be some snow

0:02:21 > 0:02:23on the leading edge of that, too.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25That weather front just tries to push

0:02:25 > 0:02:26in to central parts of the country,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28bringing in some snow and rain,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30but it looks like it stalls as it bumps

0:02:30 > 0:02:32into high pressure across Scandinavia

0:02:32 > 0:02:34and high pressure still in charge out

0:02:34 > 0:02:35in the Atlantic as well.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37With the influence of high pressure,

0:02:37 > 0:02:38that weather front looks like it

0:02:38 > 0:02:40dies a death through the course

0:02:40 > 0:02:41of Wednesday into Thursday.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44You can see the mild colours just fading away

0:02:44 > 0:02:46and the cold weather, once again,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49wins the battle towards the end of the week.

0:02:49 > 0:02:50For late next week,

0:02:50 > 0:02:51high pressure in the Atlantic,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53that's set to dominate things,

0:02:53 > 0:02:54but it does look like we'll return to

0:02:54 > 0:02:56a north-westerly flow of air,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58so weather systems move to the

0:02:58 > 0:02:59north of that high pressure

0:02:59 > 0:03:00in towards the UK,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02bringing some spells of rain and snow,

0:03:02 > 0:03:03but it looks like

0:03:03 > 0:03:04it will be the north-western

0:03:04 > 0:03:05half of the country

0:03:05 > 0:03:07that will see the windier conditions,

0:03:07 > 0:03:08with blustery showers

0:03:08 > 0:03:09of rain and snow, too,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11whereas further south and east,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14still cold, remaining drier

0:03:14 > 0:03:15and less breezy.

0:03:15 > 0:03:16One thing's for sure -

0:03:16 > 0:03:17it is going to be staying pretty

0:03:17 > 0:03:18chilly in the outlook period.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20We'll see periods of rain at times

0:03:20 > 0:03:22and also a little hill snow as well,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24and becoming breezy as we head

0:03:24 > 0:03:25towards the end of the period.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Plenty going on with the weather.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29I'll keep you updated again tomorrow. Bye-bye.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33You're my psychiatrist, you want to know what's going on in my head

0:03:33 > 0:03:36and I want to know what's going on in your head.

0:03:36 > 0:03:37Nearly one in 500 new mothers

0:03:37 > 0:03:40can suffer from an extreme form of psychosis.
