0:00:02 > 0:00:04The weather's been turning a little colder

0:00:04 > 0:00:07and more wintry through the second half of this week,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10and that wintry theme sticks with us through the course of the weekend.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12On Saturday, a couple of things to watch out for.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14First off, low pressure just pushing along the English Channel,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17bringing some outbreaks of rain, a little sleet and hill snow,

0:00:17 > 0:00:19and brisk winds to many southern areas.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21Windy for the Channel Isles, for instance.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23To the north of that, a cold easterly wind.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25That will draw in further snow showers

0:00:25 > 0:00:28for the north-east of England and south-east Scotland,

0:00:28 > 0:00:29where it could be disruptive,

0:00:29 > 0:00:32with several centimetres likely to accumulate through the day.

0:00:32 > 0:00:33A cold picture as we move through

0:00:33 > 0:00:35the course of Saturday night, into Sunday.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39The far south staying fairly cloudy, with outbreaks of drizzly rain,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41but for much of the UK, it's going to be pretty chilly.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44Temperatures in the countryside a few degrees lower than this.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47A sharp frost to start off Sunday morning.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49During the day on Sunday, we're between weather fronts.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52We've got a weather front sitting out to the south-west

0:00:52 > 0:00:53and the south-east.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56In between, we're left with an east to north-easterly airflow

0:00:56 > 0:00:59coming in off the North Sea, so again, it will feel pretty bitter.

0:00:59 > 0:01:00The south-east will hold on

0:01:00 > 0:01:02to some outbreaks of rain through the day.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04Further snow showers for north-east England

0:01:04 > 0:01:06and also for south-east Scotland once again.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09But away from these areas, quite a good deal of brightness.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11But that cold, biting easterly wind

0:01:11 > 0:01:14and temperatures only around about 4 to 8 degrees.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17Cold air well and truly in place as we end the weekend.

0:01:17 > 0:01:18You can see the northerly winds.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21They stay with us into the new working week as well.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23It looks like a really cold start to Monday.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25We can see a sharp frost.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Monday not shaping up too badly for many areas.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Some sunshine, especially in the west.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32But that northerly wind drawing in some sleet and snow showers

0:01:32 > 0:01:33to many eastern areas

0:01:33 > 0:01:35and temperatures nothing to write home about.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37A subtle change for Monday night into Tuesday.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40A ridge of higher pressure creeps in from the Atlantic.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42That means those brisk winds in the east

0:01:42 > 0:01:45gradually dying away through the course of the day.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47Tuesday, after a very cold start

0:01:47 > 0:01:50with some freezing fog and some frost likely, not a bad day.

0:01:50 > 0:01:51Some sunshine for many areas.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54You can see that front arriving in the north-west.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56That could bring some hill snow on its leading edge.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58And as we see this front

0:01:58 > 0:02:00slipping its way further southwards and eastwards

0:02:00 > 0:02:01on into the middle of the week,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03we could see some snow not only on the leading edge

0:02:03 > 0:02:07of that frontal system, but also on the rear edge of it as well.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09Some snowfall likely at times on Wednesday.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11A period of rain for many areas,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13particularly at low levels in between.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16Temperatures, again, just around 5 to 7 Celsius.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18A return to some fresher conditions

0:02:18 > 0:02:21with sunshine and showers in the north-west later on.

0:02:21 > 0:02:22This is how things are shaping up

0:02:22 > 0:02:25as we look towards the latter part of the week,

0:02:25 > 0:02:26for Thursday into Friday.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28High pressure sitting out in the Atlantic there.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30High pressure also across Scandinavia.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32This frontal system looks like it peters out

0:02:32 > 0:02:34a little bit across the country

0:02:34 > 0:02:37and that means the cold air once again wins the battle.

0:02:37 > 0:02:38So, things are staying cold.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41You can see the blue colours on the map through the course of Thursday

0:02:41 > 0:02:43and, in fact, on into Friday,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45but a bit of a subtle change in wind direction.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48So, we're looking at a bit more of a north-westerly influence

0:02:48 > 0:02:49to our weather as we end of the week

0:02:49 > 0:02:51with high pressure out in the Atlantic.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54That north-westerly wind likely to draw in

0:02:54 > 0:02:58areas of low pressure across the UK, pushing gradually south-eastwards

0:02:58 > 0:03:01as we head through towards next weekend.

0:03:01 > 0:03:02That means we'll have a little bit

0:03:02 > 0:03:05of a northwest-southeast split to our weather,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07with north-western areas likely to be blustery at times,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09with wintry showers.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Further south and east, you are a drier theme to the weather

0:03:12 > 0:03:14and a little bit less breezy here as well.

0:03:14 > 0:03:18Plenty going on for the next ten days or so, but one thing's certain.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21It is going to be staying cold, with sharp overnight frosts,

0:03:21 > 0:03:23some rain, some hill snow at times,

0:03:23 > 0:03:27and by the end of the period, things are becoming breezy once again.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Bye-bye for now.
