0:00:02 > 0:00:06Some interesting and quite uncertain developments later on this week,

0:00:06 > 0:00:08but for the time being, it's reasonably straightforward.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11And I've got good news if you like bright, crisp, sunny weather,

0:00:11 > 0:00:13because over the next couple of days at least,

0:00:13 > 0:00:16there'll be plenty of sunshine after a rather frosty start.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18This'll make a welcome change, I'm sure, for many,

0:00:18 > 0:00:21after all the rain we've had recently.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24Might be a cloudy, damp start across some southern areas,

0:00:24 > 0:00:25but things will improve here.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28A getting-better story. Already sunshine further north.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31Most of us, by the end of the day, will see plenty of blue sky.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Further wintry showers, sleet and snow showers,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35for the east of Scotland, running into north-east England

0:00:35 > 0:00:37on a brisk and cold wind.

0:00:37 > 0:00:414 to 8 degrees, north to south, the chill accentuated by that wind,

0:00:41 > 0:00:44which will continue to feed wintry showers

0:00:44 > 0:00:47down across central and eastern Scotland, parts of northern England,

0:00:47 > 0:00:50as far south as the Midlands and East Anglia, I think,

0:00:50 > 0:00:52as we get into the early hours of Monday morning,

0:00:52 > 0:00:53so watch out for ice.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56Elsewhere, frost is the name of the game. Quite a hard frost.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Just watch how the chart turns increasingly blue

0:00:58 > 0:01:01as we get into the early hours of Monday.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03You'll be scraping the windscreen, for sure.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Quite a severe frost.

0:01:05 > 0:01:06Across the Highlands of Scotland,

0:01:06 > 0:01:09we've got snow cover in rural areas in particular.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12You could get as low as -8, -10 degrees.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14The sleet and snow showers will continue to feed down

0:01:14 > 0:01:17the eastern side of the country on Monday.

0:01:17 > 0:01:18Rain or sleet near the coast.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21But go any distance inland, we could see a covering of snow,

0:01:21 > 0:01:24a few centimetres up over the high ground, North York Moors.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26Down across parts of East Anglia and the far south-east,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29also some wintry showers expected, feeling cold in that brisk wind.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31Watch out for ice.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Further west, a lot of sunshine, I think, from the word go,

0:01:33 > 0:01:37and for the majority, it'll be a nice day, albeit a chilly one.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40If you wear plenty of layers out in the sunshine,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43out of the breeze it should feel very nice indeed.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46It's never going to get all that warm after that frosty start.

0:01:46 > 0:01:483 to 8 degrees, north to south.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51And we go into another hard frost, I think, on Monday night,

0:01:51 > 0:01:53courtesy of this ridge of high pressure.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55That'll kill off the showers.

0:01:55 > 0:01:56And then we look to the west

0:01:56 > 0:01:59with this set of weather fronts bringing a change in the weather,

0:01:59 > 0:02:02with the prospect of increasing cloud, increasing wind,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05and some wet weather getting into Northern Ireland

0:02:05 > 0:02:07and the north-west of Scotland through the day.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09Quite a contrast north-west to south-east,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11because the more southern and eastern areas,

0:02:11 > 0:02:14after that frosty start, will have another fine day.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17These weather fronts are going to try and bring some milder air in,

0:02:17 > 0:02:20but just watch how the mild air gets squeezed out from either side

0:02:20 > 0:02:22by the colder air.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24That gives us quite an interesting scenario,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27because as that front tries to push its way down across the country,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30there's a good chance as that cold undercuts it,

0:02:30 > 0:02:32some of that rain could well start to turn to snow,

0:02:32 > 0:02:33particularly on the back edge.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36Parts of central and southern Scotland, northern England,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38Wales, the Midlands, and maybe some eastern counties

0:02:38 > 0:02:41could see some snow through Wednesday night

0:02:41 > 0:02:43into Thursday morning - watch this space.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45It does look as if that front will clear away,

0:02:45 > 0:02:46the skies will brighten,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49and then we're into a run of brisk and quite chilly

0:02:49 > 0:02:52west or north-westerly winds and further wintry showers

0:02:52 > 0:02:55across the high ground of north-west Britain.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57Looking further ahead towards the end of the week,

0:02:57 > 0:03:00it does look as if another set of weather fronts

0:03:00 > 0:03:02will then start to come in off the Atlantic.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04They look like bringing some rain,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06maybe a little bit of snow on the leading edge.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09But it does look as if for a time, at least, through next weekend,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12we're going to see some milder air spreading across the country.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14Temperatures will be on the rise.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16How long that lasts is another matter.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18You can see some blues following on behind.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20To sum up next weekend, yes, a change.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22Milder spell, for sure. Quite windy, though.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25And we'll all see some pretty wet weather, too.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28That's it. I'll update you again this time tomorrow.
