0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Earlier in the week I said

0:00:04 > 0:00:07we were just a couple of weeks from the end of meteorological winter,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10but we were likely to see all faces of winter

0:00:10 > 0:00:12before the month of February was through.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14Actually, we saw them on Wednesday.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17Just look at this in the far north-west of Scotland -

0:00:17 > 0:00:20a dusting of snow in Lanarkshire to greet us on Wednesday morning.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23In the far south-east corner, through Essex,

0:00:23 > 0:00:26we had a frosty start but blue sky and sunshine.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Sandwiched in between the two, it was pretty dismal,

0:00:28 > 0:00:32with a lot of cloud and rain around across the Midlands.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34Thanks for these Weather Watchers' photographs.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37Now, that weather front still yet to clear away during Thursday.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40It will slowly do so across the Essex and Kent coast,

0:00:40 > 0:00:44here, just lingering, but elsewhere a lot of sunshine coming through

0:00:44 > 0:00:48and just a scattering of wintry showers even at lower levels

0:00:48 > 0:00:50with highs of 5 to 8 Celsius.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52But as we move out of Thursday,

0:00:52 > 0:00:55it looks as though we'll keep some clearer skies and lighter winds

0:00:55 > 0:00:58through central and eastern areas - here, the possibility of a frost.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01The isobars squeeze together, the winds start to strengthen,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03and we'll start to see the arrival

0:01:03 > 0:01:05of a weather front pushing in from the west,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08so milder, with temperatures staying above freezing.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11So we start off the day on Friday with a west-east divide.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14We cling on to the best of the sunshine in sheltered eastern areas.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16The winds will strengthen, the rain arrives,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18there'll be some snow on the leading edge,

0:01:18 > 0:01:21but then it's likely to turn back to rain

0:01:21 > 0:01:23as milder air continues to push in from the west.

0:01:23 > 0:01:27It does look as though it'll be wilder, wetter and windier for many

0:01:27 > 0:01:32on Saturday, and that marks the start of a change in the story.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34As we move through Saturday afternoon

0:01:34 > 0:01:36temperatures could peak at 14 degrees.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39Still staying pretty cold up into the far north.

0:01:39 > 0:01:40It's this milder air flooding in

0:01:40 > 0:01:43across the majority of England and Wales which will see temperatures

0:01:43 > 0:01:46sitting above the average for the time of year.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49But to the far north, we keep that cold air -

0:01:49 > 0:01:515 degrees possible in Scotland.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53That's the boundary for a frontal system,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56and that could mark some significant issues

0:01:56 > 0:01:59as we move into Sunday. There's the potential for some heavy rain,

0:01:59 > 0:02:01some flooding rain, perhaps, into north-west Wales,

0:02:01 > 0:02:05north-west England, maybe even some significant snow

0:02:05 > 0:02:07across parts of Scotland.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10Now, that all depends on where this weather front tends to lie,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12and it is definitely subject to change.

0:02:12 > 0:02:17But it's worth keeping a close eye on the forecast for Sunday.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19Further south on Sunday, it's a windy one,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21but again, it's still pretty mild,

0:02:21 > 0:02:23with some showery outbreaks of rain from time to time.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Highs of 6 to 13 degrees.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29And that marks a change. As the wind directions

0:02:29 > 0:02:31move from a south-westerly into a north-westerly,

0:02:31 > 0:02:35we flip back into a colder feel across the country,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38significantly noticeable down into the Midlands,

0:02:38 > 0:02:41maybe double figures into the south.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43So for our longer, six- to ten-day period,

0:02:43 > 0:02:46what's happening? Well, the jet stream buckles up into the north,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49it allows high pressure to build into the south-west,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51but drags in this colder air for a time.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54So early into next week, it could be cold again.

0:02:54 > 0:02:58We flip-flop back, the jet stream reverts back to a westerly,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00stretching across the country, driving low pressures in,

0:03:00 > 0:03:03and things become a little more unsettled.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06So I suspect there could be something for everybody

0:03:06 > 0:03:08into next week. The early half of next week,

0:03:08 > 0:03:12if you like your mornings cold and frosty with some wintry showers

0:03:12 > 0:03:14but some chilly winds, you'll be happy.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16However, if you like it just that little bit milder,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19and not sure, but if you do like wet and windy,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21you'll be happy with this one.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23But there will be some drier interludes as well.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25A lot to play for before that,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27but that's the story as we go into next week.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30Don't forget, keep watching the forecast for weekend developments.
