0:00:02 > 0:00:05Worth staying with us here at the BBC Weather Centre

0:00:05 > 0:00:07over next few days. A few twists and turns ahead.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09A fascinating week of weather to come.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11We start with some dramatic contrasts across the UK.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14Very mild in the South, pretty cold in the North

0:00:14 > 0:00:16and that is reflected in the temperatures -

0:00:16 > 0:00:174 to 14. Mind you,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20through this week the cold air floods southwards.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23It does look like being a pretty chilly week to come.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25Not just yet across the southern half of the UK.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27Sunday will be another mild day,

0:00:27 > 0:00:28mild and cloudy and blustery.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31Some dribs and drabs out West.

0:00:31 > 0:00:32Further north we have a frontal zone of rain

0:00:32 > 0:00:34for Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland

0:00:34 > 0:00:36and some northern parts of England.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38Some of it quite persistent and heavy.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40To the North of that, though,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42a wintry scene across the northern half of Scotland.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45Frequent sleet and snow showers down to quite low levels.

0:00:45 > 0:00:46Cold rain across Southern Scotland,

0:00:46 > 0:00:48and parts of Northern Ireland.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Some pretty wet weather for Cumbria

0:00:50 > 0:00:51and North Lancashire in particular.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54To the South of that, just dribs and drabs

0:00:54 > 0:00:56up over the high ground across Western areas

0:00:56 > 0:00:58but further east mostly dry and if you see any brightness,

0:00:58 > 0:01:0014, possibly 15 degrees.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02It will be very windy, very blustery,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04particularly across parts of Wales and the Midlands.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07And then through the night everything heads Southwards

0:01:07 > 0:01:09so eventually some pretty heavy rain will turn up

0:01:09 > 0:01:11across Southern areas as we go into Monday.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14There's some uncertainty about how quickly that clears away

0:01:14 > 0:01:16but following on behind brighter skies -

0:01:16 > 0:01:18with that colder air comes in as well

0:01:18 > 0:01:20so, for many, temperatures will be

0:01:20 > 0:01:22dropping by several degrees,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24down into single figures just about nationwide

0:01:24 > 0:01:25on Monday afternoon.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Further sleet and snow showers across

0:01:27 > 0:01:29the northern part of Scotland in particular.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33As we go into Tuesday most of us will be dry and bright,

0:01:33 > 0:01:34if chilly, with some wintry showers

0:01:34 > 0:01:36around exposed Northern areas.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39A question mark still about that front across Southernmost areas.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41It might just come back in again

0:01:41 > 0:01:43across parts of the South West for example

0:01:43 > 0:01:45through Tuesday night and into Wednesday,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48grazing perhaps across other Southern coastal areas.

0:01:48 > 0:01:49That's one to watch

0:01:49 > 0:01:51but I think the majority as we go through

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Wednesday will stay dry and bright.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56After an early frost across Northern areas,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58here we'll see the best of the sunshine but

0:01:58 > 0:02:01there will be further wintry showers across the exposed Northern areas.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03Temperatures staying in single figures.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05The coldest air of course in the North.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Many of us having frosty nights.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09This could well be the scene in the morning time

0:02:09 > 0:02:11through the middle of the week

0:02:11 > 0:02:13but some lovely sunshine to compensate.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15As we look towards Thursday most of us again

0:02:15 > 0:02:18will have a dry, bright, crisp day

0:02:18 > 0:02:20but keep your eye on this front

0:02:20 > 0:02:22trying to push in from the west.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24It could cloud up across Northern Ireland

0:02:24 > 0:02:25with some rain and perhaps

0:02:25 > 0:02:27some sleet and snow as well.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29The progress of that is very uncertain indeed.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32It's all being steered by this area of low pressure

0:02:32 > 0:02:34way out in the Atlantic.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36Now, it looks as if that low pressure

0:02:36 > 0:02:39will depend on the behaviour of the Jet Stream.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41If the jet dipss its way Southwards,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43it looks like taking the main energy

0:02:43 > 0:02:45of that low pressure with it so

0:02:45 > 0:02:47at the end of the week it could well be

0:02:47 > 0:02:49that that low pressure is actually

0:02:49 > 0:02:51down here by next weekend.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53Now, its behaviour thereafter is very important

0:02:53 > 0:02:56to the weather next weekend because

0:02:56 > 0:02:58that low pressure could well run up

0:02:58 > 0:03:01towards us and through the cold air

0:03:01 > 0:03:03which will still be in place across

0:03:03 > 0:03:06many parts of the UK and that gives us

0:03:06 > 0:03:08forecasters a bit of a headache.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10It certainly does look as if,

0:03:10 > 0:03:12with low pressure around through next weekend,

0:03:12 > 0:03:14it'll be cold and the potential

0:03:14 > 0:03:16for some rain to turn to snow

0:03:16 > 0:03:18as that low moves through,

0:03:18 > 0:03:19so watch this space.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22To sum up, coldest in the North, no surprises there,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25some rain and just that heads up of the risk

0:03:25 > 0:03:28of some snow through next weekend.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29I'll update you again tomorrow.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33The voice you're hearing is mine.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36It was recorded last night after I had a few pints.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39I'm doing this to show that...
