0:00:03 > 0:00:05We'll see some pretty big changes with the weather patterns,
0:00:05 > 0:00:07both on the large scale
0:00:07 > 0:00:10and with the wind direction across the UK in the coming days.
0:00:10 > 0:00:13But the main theme, even as we head into the first part of March,
0:00:13 > 0:00:16is it's going to be staying on the cold side.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18Quite a bit of sunshine during Thursday,
0:00:18 > 0:00:20which will soon lift the temperatures,
0:00:20 > 0:00:23starting below freezing, up to between 3 and 8 Celsius.
0:00:23 > 0:00:25A few scattered showers in the west,
0:00:25 > 0:00:27some snow showers continuing across the Shetland Isles,
0:00:27 > 0:00:30where temperatures will struggle to get much above freezing.
0:00:30 > 0:00:32Elsewhere, 3 to 7 or 8 Celsius.
0:00:32 > 0:00:34With light winds, in the sunshine,
0:00:34 > 0:00:36it doesn't feel too bad after that frosty start.
0:00:36 > 0:00:38Again, though it'll turn quite frosty quite quickly
0:00:38 > 0:00:40during Thursday evening.
0:00:40 > 0:00:42The blue hue taking over the map.
0:00:42 > 0:00:43Again, where we see any showers,
0:00:43 > 0:00:46it could turn a little bit icy out on the roads,
0:00:46 > 0:00:49as temperatures, quite widely, even in towns and cities,
0:00:49 > 0:00:50again, get down to freezing.
0:00:50 > 0:00:53Rural areas, several degrees below.
0:00:53 > 0:00:55Not quite as cold further south and west, you'll notice,
0:00:55 > 0:00:58because here we'll see a bit more breeze picking up.
0:00:58 > 0:01:01But more importantly, perhaps, a bit more cloud spinning in.
0:01:01 > 0:01:03It will be a cloudier day here
0:01:03 > 0:01:04with perhaps some more persistent rain,
0:01:04 > 0:01:07most likely now to be across the extreme south-west.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10But perhaps a few more showers on Friday
0:01:10 > 0:01:12across southern and western areas.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14Overall, for most, Friday is, again, a dry day.
0:01:14 > 0:01:17And, again, after a frosty start, quite a bit of sunshine,
0:01:17 > 0:01:19with temperatures around or a touch below average -
0:01:19 > 0:01:203 to 7 Celsius.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23But we will start to see the breeze picking up
0:01:23 > 0:01:26from this area of wet weather, tied into an area of low pressure.
0:01:26 > 0:01:28The low itself is going to drive southwards,
0:01:28 > 0:01:29joining with another low,
0:01:29 > 0:01:31bringing some pretty wet and windy conditions
0:01:31 > 0:01:34to parts of Spain and France this weekend.
0:01:34 > 0:01:37The upshot for us on the northern side of that low,
0:01:37 > 0:01:39with quite a few isobars on the chart,
0:01:39 > 0:01:42means the winds, certainly across the southern portions of the UK,
0:01:42 > 0:01:45will be increasing and coming in from a cold direction.
0:01:45 > 0:01:48The winds further north will be light,
0:01:48 > 0:01:50so it's another fine day by and large, with some sunshine.
0:01:50 > 0:01:52Temperatures in the south still 5 to 8 Celsius,
0:01:52 > 0:01:55similar to what we'll see for the next few days.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57But because you're adding on that wind,
0:01:57 > 0:01:59it will feel a lot colder this weekend.
0:01:59 > 0:02:02And still, particularly across the south-eastern quarter of the UK,
0:02:02 > 0:02:03a bitter wind blowing on Sunday.
0:02:03 > 0:02:05Elsewhere, again, the winds relatively light
0:02:05 > 0:02:08and most places dry and bright, some sunny spells,
0:02:08 > 0:02:10just a few scattered wintry showers.
0:02:10 > 0:02:14High pressure remains in control for the early part of the week,
0:02:14 > 0:02:15but we're starting to see a change.
0:02:15 > 0:02:18During Monday, these weather fronts approaching from the Atlantic.
0:02:18 > 0:02:22Back to more of an Atlantic influence early part of next week.
0:02:22 > 0:02:24That's all tied in with the jet stream,
0:02:24 > 0:02:26that fast-moving ribbon of air.
0:02:26 > 0:02:28If you've been with me for the past few nights,
0:02:28 > 0:02:31we've been talking about this jet stream driving south
0:02:31 > 0:02:32to the west of the UK.
0:02:32 > 0:02:35As we go through the weekend, into the early part of next week,
0:02:35 > 0:02:37look at the change.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40We're back to a more traditional jet stream, if you like,
0:02:40 > 0:02:42driving from west to east.
0:02:42 > 0:02:45And also, notice it is getting a little bit weaker.
0:02:45 > 0:02:48It means that it will be driving the low-pressure systems
0:02:48 > 0:02:50towards more northern parts of the UK,
0:02:50 > 0:02:52or perhaps to the north of Scotland, even.
0:02:52 > 0:02:54But because the jet stream's a bit weaker,
0:02:54 > 0:02:57we're not at this stage expecting anything too intense
0:02:57 > 0:03:00with these low-pressure systems that drift on through.
0:03:00 > 0:03:03It does mean more of an Atlantic influence.
0:03:03 > 0:03:06It's a big expanse of water, so there'll be a bit more rain around.
0:03:06 > 0:03:10After a largely dry weekend, we will start to see more wet weather
0:03:10 > 0:03:11through the early part of next week.
0:03:11 > 0:03:13There'll be a different feel.
0:03:13 > 0:03:15We'll lose those bitter easterly winds
0:03:15 > 0:03:17and the winds will come in from the north-west.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20Not particularly warm. It'll still be on the chilly side.
0:03:20 > 0:03:23Temperatures about average as we head into the early part of March.
0:03:23 > 0:03:25With the low pressures nearer the north,
0:03:25 > 0:03:28that's where the wettest of the weather will be
0:03:28 > 0:03:29for much of next week.
