0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. The start of meteorological spring
0:00:04 > 0:00:06may well be just around the corner,
0:00:06 > 0:00:07but the next several days,
0:00:07 > 0:00:10it's still going to feel a bit on the wintry side.
0:00:10 > 0:00:12That wintry feel just lingering on
0:00:12 > 0:00:14into the early part of March.
0:00:14 > 0:00:15Certainly starting on Sunday
0:00:15 > 0:00:16on a very cold note
0:00:16 > 0:00:18in some parts of Scotland,
0:00:18 > 0:00:20the sheltered glens will be down to minus 10
0:00:20 > 0:00:21or even lower than that.
0:00:21 > 0:00:24A touch of frost towards the southern counties
0:00:24 > 0:00:25and that chilly feel
0:00:25 > 0:00:26accentuated by that breeze
0:00:26 > 0:00:28blowing in across East Anglia,
0:00:28 > 0:00:29southern counties,
0:00:29 > 0:00:31quite a gusty wind, but apart from that,
0:00:31 > 0:00:32it's going to be a pretty reasonable day,
0:00:32 > 0:00:34variable amounts of cloud,
0:00:34 > 0:00:35some spells of sunshine,
0:00:35 > 0:00:37lighter winds as you work your way north,
0:00:37 > 0:00:39so a decent day, once again, in Scotland,
0:00:39 > 0:00:39six or seven degrees,
0:00:39 > 0:00:41eight or nine in the south-east,
0:00:41 > 0:00:42but you have to factor in that wind
0:00:42 > 0:00:44which will eventually ease down,
0:00:44 > 0:00:45Sunday night, into Monday.
0:00:45 > 0:00:47It's going to turn quite cold
0:00:47 > 0:00:48Monday morning for England
0:00:48 > 0:00:49and Wales with light winds
0:00:49 > 0:00:50and fairly clear skies.
0:00:50 > 0:00:52Not so further north or west
0:00:52 > 0:00:54because weather fronts will be moving in here.
0:00:54 > 0:00:56That's going to bring cloud and rain.
0:00:56 > 0:00:57Quite a few isobars indicate
0:00:57 > 0:00:58that it'll be quite windy.
0:00:58 > 0:00:59It's wet and windy
0:00:59 > 0:01:01for Northern Ireland, Western Scotland.
0:01:01 > 0:01:02Maybe just a bit of snow
0:01:02 > 0:01:03on the leading edge of that system.
0:01:03 > 0:01:05By the middle of the afternoon,
0:01:05 > 0:01:06you might begin to see a bit of rain
0:01:06 > 0:01:08cropping up in the Western fringes
0:01:08 > 0:01:10of England and Wales, but for the Midlands,
0:01:10 > 0:01:12eastern England, it should stay dry
0:01:12 > 0:01:13until well on into the evening,
0:01:13 > 0:01:14five to nine degrees
0:01:14 > 0:01:16your afternoon highs on Monday.
0:01:16 > 0:01:18By Tuesday, low pressure
0:01:18 > 0:01:19still in charge of our weather.
0:01:19 > 0:01:21Weather fronts moving through
0:01:21 > 0:01:22bringing spells of rain
0:01:22 > 0:01:23and lots of isobars on the charts,
0:01:23 > 0:01:25so it's going to be quite windy.
0:01:25 > 0:01:27It's not a particularly pleasant
0:01:27 > 0:01:28sort of day on Tuesday with rain
0:01:28 > 0:01:30sweeping its way from the north-west
0:01:30 > 0:01:31towards the south-east.
0:01:31 > 0:01:32The winds are coming in
0:01:32 > 0:01:33from the south-west, so, I suppose,
0:01:33 > 0:01:35on the face of it, it's going to be relatively
0:01:35 > 0:01:37mild, 10, 11, 12 degrees,
0:01:37 > 0:01:39particularly across England and Wales,
0:01:39 > 0:01:41but in the wind and the rain,
0:01:41 > 0:01:42it's not going to feel that great.
0:01:42 > 0:01:43Now onto the middle
0:01:43 > 0:01:45of the coming week and low pressure
0:01:45 > 0:01:47still in charge of our weather,
0:01:47 > 0:01:48lots of isobars in the charts,
0:01:48 > 0:01:49so it's going to be windy
0:01:49 > 0:01:51and you can follow those isobars
0:01:51 > 0:01:53all the way back up towards the Arctic,
0:01:53 > 0:01:55so some cold air digging down across the UK.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57It's going to be an unsettled day,
0:01:57 > 0:01:59a blustery day, and it will feel cold
0:01:59 > 0:02:00in that wind and the showers
0:02:00 > 0:02:01may not just be of rain,
0:02:01 > 0:02:04there could well be some sleet and some snow.
0:02:04 > 0:02:05That's certainly one to watch
0:02:05 > 0:02:08through the middle of the coming week.
0:02:08 > 0:02:10On into the latter part of the coming week,
0:02:10 > 0:02:11well, we'll take a look at the jet stream.
0:02:11 > 0:02:14Of course, the jet stream is that fast-moving ribbon
0:02:14 > 0:02:17of air in the upper atmosphere which tends to drive our weather systems.
0:02:17 > 0:02:20It looks like it will be slipping its way a little bit further south.
0:02:20 > 0:02:23We're on the cold side of the jet and we tend to see
0:02:23 > 0:02:27weather systems developing on the northern flank of that system, so it
0:02:27 > 0:02:31does look rather unsettled towards the latter part of the coming week.
0:02:31 > 0:02:34We've still got low pressure in charge of our weather,
0:02:34 > 0:02:35one to the east of us,
0:02:35 > 0:02:39another one swinging its way down from the north and west.
0:02:39 > 0:02:41While the isobars may well ease out a little bit,
0:02:41 > 0:02:43it still looks pretty unsettled.
0:02:43 > 0:02:46There's a mixture of rain, maybe even still some sleet and some snow.
0:02:46 > 0:02:48So an unsettled look to things
0:02:48 > 0:02:51through the middle and latter part of the coming week
0:02:51 > 0:02:52and then on into next weekend,
0:02:52 > 0:02:53well, the general idea
0:02:53 > 0:02:56is for high pressure to drift its way in from the Atlantic.
0:02:56 > 0:02:59Low pressure to the east of us, high pressure to the west
0:02:59 > 0:03:03and the resultant winds are coming down from the north.
0:03:03 > 0:03:05Now a northerly wind is never particularly warm,
0:03:05 > 0:03:08so into next weekend don't expect to see double-digit temperatures.
0:03:08 > 0:03:12It's going to be quite chilly, particularly in that wind.
0:03:12 > 0:03:15So a cold wind coming down from the north next weekend
0:03:15 > 0:03:18and it will keep things fairly unsettled with some wintry showers
0:03:18 > 0:03:22still to be had, but some spells of sunshine in between those showers.
0:03:22 > 0:03:26Daytime temperatures probably not particularly high
0:03:26 > 0:03:27and still some frost
0:03:27 > 0:03:28in the coming few nights.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30Lots going on, keep up-to-date with it online.
