0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. Well, Wednesday was a cold day and you know what?

0:00:05 > 0:00:09The next few days aren't looking much warmer at all.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11If you were watching Louise yesterday,

0:00:11 > 0:00:14she was explaining just how chilly the beginning of March has been -

0:00:14 > 0:00:171st March, the first day of meteorological winter.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19Look how the other three months -

0:00:19 > 0:00:22February, January, December, going back in time -

0:00:22 > 0:00:24how much milder it was.

0:00:24 > 0:00:25So, now that technically Spring -

0:00:25 > 0:00:29from a meteorologist's point of view - has just started,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31it's actually turned quite a bit colder.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34Very dramatic clouds recently as well.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36These mammatus clouds, for example,

0:00:36 > 0:00:38sent in by one of our weather watchers.

0:00:38 > 0:00:42Where has the air been coming from in the last couple of days or so?

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Well, you guessed it - all the way from the Arctic

0:00:44 > 0:00:46and we're going to keep getting shots of cold air

0:00:46 > 0:00:48through the course of the weekend.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50We are on the cold side of the jet stream.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52This is where the cold air sits,

0:00:52 > 0:00:55this is where the milder air sits.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57The good news is that at least on Thursday,

0:00:57 > 0:01:00we're going to be in between weather systems.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02One low-pressure here, another one there,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04we're in this in between bit, so that means

0:01:04 > 0:01:07that the weather isn't going to be that bad at all.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Most importantly, the winds are going to be lighter,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13so it is going to feel just that little bit less cold.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16But there still are some showers in the forecast,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18possibly some wintry ones, during the course of Thursday -

0:01:18 > 0:01:21particularly across more northern areas of the country.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Notice that there's another weather front

0:01:23 > 0:01:26that's out there in the Atlantic, ready to come our way.

0:01:26 > 0:01:30And that could prove troublesome as we go through Thursday night

0:01:30 > 0:01:32and also into Friday morning.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34We could see some snow.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36It's still cold enough for some snow,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38particularly across northern parts of England,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41through Wales, the Midlands, possibly East Anglia.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44So, if you're travelling first thing in the morning on Friday,

0:01:44 > 0:01:47just be prepared - there could be some disruption.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Most of the snow will fall across the hills

0:01:49 > 0:01:52and for many of us, it will be rain and sleet,

0:01:52 > 0:01:53but through the day,

0:01:53 > 0:01:57it will be quite a cold and rotten picture

0:01:57 > 0:02:00for some of us across the southern half of the UK.

0:02:00 > 0:02:01Then comes Saturday.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04That area of low pressure with that weather front

0:02:04 > 0:02:06starts to pull away

0:02:06 > 0:02:09and we see isobars aligning themselves from North to South.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12That means the wind will be coming in from the North as well,

0:02:12 > 0:02:15but with that, further wintry showers anywhere from Scotland,

0:02:15 > 0:02:18eastern parts of England, possibly the Midlands,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20and down into the South.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22Only four, five, six degrees for some of us.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24The same picture happens on Sunday.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27Still those North to South-oriented isobars,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30so chilly winds, but they won't be quite so strong on Sunday

0:02:30 > 0:02:32and I think we'll see fewer wintry showers.

0:02:32 > 0:02:33This sort of situation,

0:02:33 > 0:02:36where we get the wintry showers coming in from the North -

0:02:36 > 0:02:39usually Western areas fare best and we get most of the sunshine.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42But look at these temperatures - four, five, six,

0:02:42 > 0:02:43seven degrees at most.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Let's have a look at the jet stream.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Remember, this is the warmer side of the jet stream,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50this is the colder side of the jet stream.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52You just get a sense that we're on that pivoting line,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54that point of transitioning

0:02:54 > 0:02:57to perhaps something slightly milder.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00This high pressure may be a player with our weather

0:03:00 > 0:03:02a little bit later on next week,

0:03:02 > 0:03:04at least the middle part of the week.

0:03:04 > 0:03:08High-pressure starts to build from the Atlantic,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10bringing us settled conditions,

0:03:10 > 0:03:12maybe frosty nights as well.

0:03:12 > 0:03:13It may not last long,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16cos from the latter part of next week,

0:03:16 > 0:03:20that low-pressure from the Atlantic starts to come in,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22bringing us stronger winds.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24Perhaps we'd like something a little bit warmer,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26but at the moment,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28it looks as though that cold weather is here to stay,

0:03:28 > 0:03:30so no change from yesterday.

0:03:42 > 0:03:42In the last five years,
